if laptops were THICK, like 3cm thick (not the screen, but the area that contains motherboard and a keyboard ontop of motherboard) you could install THICK copper heatspreaders ontop of CPU and GPU

this would help with the cooling and laptops would have severely powerful components

nobody has realized this potential

there is also one further additional benefit: thicker batteries = more cells = more power hours

1. thickness doesn't dissipate heat, surface area does. so in that regard it's a worse design.
2. you don't need a dedicated GPU if you're not a gamer. a strong CPU is sufficient for programming. even if you're doing game dev it's good because you're forced to optimize your pile of shit.

I wish everything was built as a series of interchangeable daughter boards connected to a main board. With a very strong (almost government level legally binding) emphasis on backwards compatibility and legacy support Bloatfags fuck off.

My main PC would be:

Mainboard
CPU DB
GPU DB
RAM DB
Ethernet DB
1x SATA SSD DB
3x USB DB (1x2.0 2x3.x)
Audio DB

Each DB has socketable chips, over engineer the through-put of each DB and its connector, badda bing badda boom.

Engineers beg to differ. They need workstation mobile gpus in their laptops. A lot of Engineers have switched to laptops because of the ease of transport and trade between team members that need it. You get alot more bang for your buck when a single workstation can be transported from room to room and employee to employee without much thought on how to transfer it. It can be well worth the limited performance so long as it's capable of doing the job on demand. People forget that the gb203 die in the 5080 is a mobile gpu die. The 5080 was designed with laptops in mind.

The real problem is that computers, like everything else, are not made to make customers happy, not made to be the best possible, they are made so the company makes money.
There are better solutions to cool down computers but they are not profitable so they are not used.
We could have laptop a few millimeters thick that never overheat, technologies exist, but they are too expensive.
We are barely starting to use graphene at last. We could have used it for over twenty years, but it was too expensive to manufacturate. And you know what? A better solution than graphene have existed for years, I don't remember its name, it's made of two different atoms instead of carbon, but we won't use it before long, because it's expensive.

This honestly, back in the day we had to deal with thick af laptops due to lithography of the era and the TDP of chips, any usable laptop was at least 25w on the low end to 47w on the high end, but we're at a point where a 6w to 15W CPU kicks ass for laptop usage,and the graphics built into the Intel and Ryzen chips are totally fine for what people want it for, not even mentioning the switch to small flash storage devices which means laptops be fast, thin, and get good battery life
