what went wrong?

just two more weeks btrfs bros

ext4

xfs and btrfs and others also are widely used and are ok/great depending on what you do

what "went wrong" is probably mostly that in some way that ceph minio etc. didn't become solid and easy to administer at any scale they should support

but well, zfs xfs btrfs all got quite a bit better for most of their users, so it's not all bad

I was hopeful about bcachefs, but it's out of tree now so you may as well just use ZFS
>>
snapraid + xfs
I like it because reading does not stress all disks at once, so disks will last longer than with ZFS or other raid solutions.
