This will have half life 3 as an exclusive? Otherwise how are they supposed to sell it?
It just a mid prebuild
>>
Gamers are cattle.
>>
>>109127126
I would gladly preorder at least 5 of these so that gabe can buy his tenth superyacht
>>
>>109127126
It is. Expect your mid builds to cost accordingly, if you can get the parts at all.
>>
>>109127126
How the fuck would they make anything an exclusive for this thing? Think, nigga.
>>
>>109127164
DRM magic
>>
>>109127174
Have you seen valve's DRM? It's barely an afterthought.
>>
>>109127126
>mid prebuild
Is more of an entry level laptop from a few years ago.
>>
>>109127236
It's not trying to compete with gaming PCs, but with consoles as a "plug and play" couch gaming device
Of course that raises the issue of price compared to a PS5 or an Xbox, but that's because we're on the absolute peak of the AI retard bubble
>>
It's a tiny Linux PC that handles HDMI-CEC. The fact that it also has a bigger game library than every current gen console combined is icing on the cake. If you want a faster one, want for next gen. I can imagine this thing will sell extremely well to home theater people.
>>

*Tech-Consumers are cattle
>>
>>109127485
I don't understand valve defenders, Steam Machine was advertised as a Desktop PC, it even offers the option buying one without a controller, is 100% competing with gaming PCs, then you also who have the shills who say you can't compare to consoles because it is actually a PC!
>>
>>109127556
It was always advertised as a console first and foremost. You can buy it without a controller not just because it's meant to be used with a mouse and keyboard, but because many people already own controllers and this thing supports just about all of them AFAIK
The "It's a PC" thing was clearly meant to be an extra perk, so to speak, meaning you can do whatever you want with it compared to other consoles which are extremely locked down
>>
>>109127826
Okay, but you can agree it is an overpriced outdated e-waste, and not to sound a like PC elitist, but you can build one yourself that would perform better.
>>
>>109127126
thanks to your ad I bought one, good job anon
>>
>>109127918
Then you aren't the demographic. Its clear valve is targeting one group with the steam machine. People who want a basic gaming PC don't really care about price, don't want to deal with the hassle of building one and is also small, so they can just plug into their TV and not think about it like a console.
>>
>>109127126
>how are they supposed to sell it?
You underestimate steam/valve/gabefags. They'll pay $$$ to suck gaben's 30days unwashed cock if opportunity is available
>>
>>109127164
Linux-only for the first few months.
>>
>>109127164
Exclusive? Anon we are against exclusivity. I bought it the moment it became available.
>>
>>109128135
>targeting one group
This is such a niche group, is obvioulsy not targeting console player like xbox and playstation since it is too expensive and is not compitable with triple aaa normie slop because of anti-cheat, and is not targeting PCs users since likely to have something more powerful than the steam Machine, so to break it to you, it is DOA like the ouya.
>>
>>109128197
I love how yall said the steam deck was doa, but valve just keeps winning, the gabecube is sold out. "doa" rofl
>>
>>109128197
The steam machine is for normies who aren't console fanboys and just want to get into PC gaming. Hell, I know people who were waiting for the steam machine to get a PC that could play games.
>>
>>109128211
Of course the cube is soldout since they only made 3 of them in all of asia.
>>
>>109127126
it's due 2027. so it really depends on how much ram is then and whether or not that effects pre-builds.

it has other things going for it, like not being fucking windows while still having corporate support for a unique hardware setup. should reduce tinker tranny time, which has a level of appeal for someone like me. because i just can't be fucked anymore.

interestingly enough, it seems that ram increases resulted in a 45% price hit. so the original price for the top unit looks like it was going to be about $750. see here for details.
https://www.tomshardware.com/video-games/console-gaming/valve-steam-machine-price-hike-similar-to-steam-decks-45-percent-increase-company-confirms-was-probably-priced-competitively-against-the-ps5-pro-before-the-rampocalypse

for those saying valve should have subsidized it, running the numbers on a napkin means if they sold 500,000 units, they'd have to generate an extra half billion dollars of revenue from game sales just to break even. that's not realistic at all, especially for a company of valve's size.

if they make money on these they'll do it again. probably newell will be looking to specialize more on hardware/os integration
>>
>>109128145
Honestly man you need to get the fuck outside. The headspace in which you live that makes you post shit like this and be serious about it is not good for you and is not going to predispose you to longevity. Grow the fuck up, go the fuck outside Mr. Peepeepoopoo man.
>>
>>109127126
do people really need this just to play minecraft?
>>
>>109127126
Why wouldn't I buy it? It's a 480p powerhouse.
>>
>>109127126
fair bet that the killer app will be something that runs on their vr headset.
>>
>>109128377
The "lose money on the hardware" thing is mostly a meme. The actual strategy for winners like Nintendo is to sell it at more or less cost when it first comes out and keep the price point even as manufacturing drives the price down, so you end up making per unit profits later in the cycle. If they can get buyers at this price point and RAM prices drop considerably they can cut the price significantly and still end up making more per unit.

Corporations have entire marketing departments to figure these things out and it's comedy that a bunch of retards who've never run anything in their life think they know better than the people actually putting time and resources into this.

tl;dr: you have to consider a 3-5 year strategy when judging the product.
>>
>>109127126
I'd buy it if they bundle every valve game with it for free, including HL Alyx and HL3, and like $100 of Steam credit or something
>>
>>109127133
Not wrong, look at the games that win awards now and it's all the most paint by numbers slop imaginable, and most games aren't even games anymore, they're glorified movies with soulless modernslop graphics over substance to appeal to the braindead masses.
>>
imagine if consumers had some fucking spine, we could hold out on these fuckers and force them to create HL3 for it
but no, everyone is goyim.
>>

>behave like a retarded nigger
>win retardes nigger prices
w o a h
>>
>>109127126
The case is smol and cute and plays most games good enough. For casual gamers that's all that matters.
>>
>>109131656
Hl2E2 came out 20 years ago. The people who were there when it was made/released are all gone. If people could simply accept it's never coming we would all be better off, Valve could prioritize their multiplayer games and Steam. No point in holding on for lofty expectations they'll never meet/have no interest in pursuing. They already gave up and the proof is all this hardware with no shelf life, it's the exact same crap venture/startups resort to when marketing disposable products.
>>
>>109127126

This is competing with Apple TV/Roku for affluent people and gacha whales. It’s not targeting /g/ which is generally poverty stricken.

target client is a retard, they know this, they're exploiting you retards, it's like telling a retard to open his mouth, then shitting in his mouth, then asking the retard to thank you, that's the business model
>>
>>109127556
They defend it because the people who hate on it are very low IQ. Woah a company spends a bunch of R&D on making the GabeCube and Gabe OS, to make it a 'one and done' kinda package, and people are mad that its not being sold at a bargain? Are you fucking stupid? It's like being surprised Apple Macbooks are expensive. If you can make your own GabeCube for cheaper then do it. That's why most people got into building their own PCs.
>>
>>109130930
>tl;dr: you have to consider a 3-5 year strategy when judging the product.
considering the 3-5 year outlook for ram and the fact that valve isn't nintendo or sony, i think it's the best decision to make. especially as even old hardware is going up in price now.
>>
>>109135341
At this point, if you really need a new computer you should buy one RIGHT NOW before it's too late because prices are only going to get higher. Apple just raised the prices of a bunch of products today.
>>
>>109135400
yeah, microsoft just added anothing hundred something to the xbox as well. it won't get better soon.
