should i install steamos on my pc?
>>
Why would you install a bloated fork of arch when you can just install arch?
>>
>>109130794
i watch vtubers. i know my limits.
>>
>>109130800
Arch is easy to install in 2026
Look up 'archinstall'
>>
>>109130591
if you installed arch and then kde it would effectively be steam os but without all the unnecessary stuff
>>
>>109130591
if you live inside spotify, discord, steam, etc. you should probably look into "bazzite". it is babbys first linux distro. it gives the user very little control, and in return cannot be broken easily (or at all, really)

you could also try steamOS if you have amd. BUT ONLY IF YOU HAVE AMD. do NOT install steamOS if you have NVIDIA.

if you do stuff besides gaming on your main machine, you should look into linux mint.
>>
>>109130591
just install a linux distro via an installer. it's not hard.

ventoy->prepare usb stick, copy some of the candidate distro's ISO's on them, check them out in live mode, pick one you seem to like.
>>
>>109130591
Bazzite, every other answer is wrong. And before you argue with me, know this, I have tried over 45 distributions of Linux, and Bazzite is head and shoulders above everything else.
>>
>>109130842
>immutable OS
lol
lmao
don't do it op. also.
>Images of your operating system are retained in our repositories for ninety days
what a weird way to do snapshots
>>
>>109130860
immutable Linux never breaks. rock solid stable. Kernel panic? Game freezes everything? Flip the power switch and turn it back on and the PC acts like nothing happened. Only a brain dead retard wants their OS to be an unstable crash fest. Seek counseling.
>>
>>109130866
you haven't tried 40 different anything. you're a pathological liar that went straight to baby's first gaming distro, bazzite. stay there.
>>
>>109130794
Why install bloated arch when you got gentoo?
>>
>>109130869
I did and they are all pretty much shit. They all try to be different in different ways that are quite honestly meaningless to 98% of desktop PC users.
>stay there
I will and I am quite happy with it. Seek immediate counseling.
>>
>>109130870
Enjoy your lengthy compilation time, in return you get.....nothing?
>>
>>109130879
you get outdated programs and trannies telling you that you made a good decision. Just install Bazzite.
>>
Both Gentoo and Arch are outdated and for stupid people. He should run NixOS. Stable and up to date.
>>
>>109130866
this user is correct. you cannot break bazzite, it literally has copies of itself ready, so if you fuck it up it can basically reinstall itself on the fly, while still keeping all of your documents intact.

>>109130869
im not the other guy, but it seems like even you agree bazzite is babys first linux distro. isnt this perfect for the vtuber enjoyer?

>>109130591
also op dont look into arch or gentoo. that is a joke. they are saying jokes.
>>
people want to argue, they don't want answers and they don't want to discuss anything. If they were faced with the light of truth, they would realize that their said pathetic lives are filled with endless bullshit that they had full control over the entire time. I escaped Windows so I wouldn't have to keep putting up with an unstable pile of shit, why the fuck would I install a distro that copied Windows in being an even worse unstable pile of shit? Jesus fucking Christ Linux users are quite literally fucking retarded.
>tries artix, fails to boot with nvidia open
>tries arch, crashes within a week of use
>tries gentoo, outdated packages that are somehow incomplete with updated versions of things causing crashes and breakages
>tries Linux Mint, desktop icons are a mess, the user interface is barely held together with hopes and dreams and breaks with slight usage, finds out the dev is an outspoken antisemite
>tries Debian, requires a lot of work to get working, but overall good once you get it setup, things are outdated but everything kind of just works, still scared it will break one of these days
>tries Ubuntu... wtf is this?
>tries Fedora, everything going good until an update fucks everything up
>jesus christ, my lord, what is the best Linux distro
clouds open and the angels sing, and I hear the voice of God
>Bazzite my son!
>downloads bazzite
>everything just works, cant break it even if I try.
>too lazy to reinstall Windows, Bazzite just works. Just keeps working. Some game has anticheat? Guess I didn't wanna play that anyway, refund and get a different game...
>>
Oh it's a Bazzite bot shill thread.
>>
>>109130591
No probably not, it's not compatible with a lot of hardware so you should only consider it if you're sure your hardware is supported.
>>
>>109130936
bazzite is fine, honestly, but
>109130842
>109130866
>109130883
>109130916
goes to every linux thread and argues with everyone if they choose any other linux distro besides bazzite.

to be entirely honest, bazzite really isnt so bad, and really is idiot proof, it's just that some users do not need a linux distro with the corners rounded off.

Enjoy the bullshit I guess. I like doing other things with my time than recompiling the kernel in gentoo all day anon.
>>
>>109130591
Install CachyOS you stupid baka. All your gayming shit works out of the box.
>>
>>109130591
If you'll solely be using your pc for gaming, sure. it's a good OS for dumb gaming boxes/handhelds that do exclusively that.
If you use the pc for anything else in addition to gaming, cachyOS with KDE is probably a better choice in the long run.

lol, i'm currently trying to install gentoo on top of my arch install.
so i can gentoo on my arch

the hardest part of the arch installation process is having a fast enough internet connection.

Yes. I run both Global and JP flawlessly. Global even has "official" Deck support.

everything that valve has configured on steam os to make it just work when you boot it up for the first time for example

Yes
You should
Valve has the money, connections, and impetous to make SteamOS a bullet proof OS.

Doesn't default Arch have security problems as bad as Windows XP?
>>
>>109139684
Worse, arguably
most people don't even bother setting up a firewall, or sensible user permissions
the AUR is also a ripe supply chain attack surface

Hey @Grok, is this true?
>>
>>109139684
There is no such thing as "default Arch". Unless you install network daemons, there will be nothing listening on a port. Also in order to log in as root into a desktop environment, you would have to type the word "root", so you would be doing that on purpose.

The AUR is slightly concerning though because people just assume it is safe, when it really isn't.

it's really funny that Microsoft doesn't care about this because it only impacts Radeon users on Windows (all 2 of them)
