>>109137568
Same as the other anon with the addition of a Redhat cert since you will be targeting real network hardware if you plan on being a leet haxor. Other considerations is that CEH from Comptia is valued to plenty of companies. You should at most read over the material for Tech+/A+/Net+ but do not waste your time actually taking the certs when CCNA/JNCIA are better for you anyways. Sec+ is a minimum for most government jobs so no point in skipping it. CISSP is for admin and GIAC varies wildly in terms of usage i would only take it if the job requires it. Most IT jobs require Sec+/CCNA/RHEL

Here a list of useless tech advice from clueless people that pushes the blame from failed institutions to the individual:
>bro just get a degree
>bro just do side projects, internship, volunteer work
>bro just niche down
>bro just make something more complex than crud shit
>bro just earn architecture
>bro just learn db really well (even here they parrot this meme)
>bro just network

I spent 6 years in college, did volunteeer work, undergrad research, participated in extracurricular activities. My undergrad research was in another city i had to wake up at 4am for a year to go to the place. On top of studying at college, to this day, it is the hardest thing i did in life.
After grad i tried to get big names in my cv like and i do have 2 top2 and a top3 comp in their fields in my cv.

Nobody ever during interviews said wow you studied at a top college, wow you worked at x, cool you did undergrad research. None of this matters.

After that i tried to niche down, focusing on performance optimization and cost reduction (backend). At my last job i spent 5 months fighting managers and bureaucracy to do a cost saving projects (ofc nobody wants anything that isnt AI today) on cloud. In my head this would massively boost my cv. Before that i had a project where i shoved a server threading optim during an dep upgrade window.

All this is written in my cv with that bullshit STAR method and showing number like 33% reduction in cost. Nobody ever in this life during a interview told me , oh cool, you did this optim, can you do the same for us? It is always bullshit like tell me diff between class and object or whats the version of y framework you used?
>>
>>109138002
Also another important detail is that from all the 5 places i worked, nobody ever contacted me to work for them again. So this idea of networking is another waste of time that people love to parrot. Maybe in other industries this can work but in IT dont even bother.

What i see from all job interviews i do is that they dont want a good candidate, they want a perfect match.

For example if the hiring manager from an ice cream factory needs to create a login page and the stack is azure/mysql v12/dotnet v3/nextjs v1, he will only hire a guy that did the same thing, with the exact same stack at another ice cream factory. It doesnt matter you worked with login pages with the same stack in a bank. It doesnt matter if you worked at an ice cream factory but the stack was aws instead of azure. Doesnt matter if you worked with the same stack, in the same field but you did dashboards and not login pages.

This is what i see from my job hunting. The only thing that works is mass applying, lying a ton, doing the bare minimun at work, and never stop applying, change jobs asap when you find another fool wanting to pay even $1 more than your actual place.

All this trash advice you see around, maybe it worked in the 80s but not nowdays.

This is simply not aligned with reality. Unless you're purposefully demoralizing, there must be something about you that we (and you) are not seeing. Maybe you're so socially inept and retarded that you can't be hired? Maybe you fell for the job hopping meme too hard and did it once every year? Maybe you're morbidly obese? Either way, it's a skill issue. I know because, from the things you said, I should be a much worse candidate than you, and yet finding work has never been remotely as hard as you make it out to be (yes, even in the current economy)
>>
>>109138399
>linkedin, since all other platforms i tried are a meme
>mass apply, aiming for 50 per week
>recruiters that ask for something like did you worked with pricing before or do you know angular v12 and shit like that and disappear
>get 3-4 interviews
>useless hr asking dumb questions and i always say yes
>dont get sent to techinical interview anyway

>bro just improve your social skills
As i said, i did this in college. There wasnt a single semester i wasnt doing extra activities exactly to get social skills. On top of that i already actually held jobs. Had a gf in the past. I dont think you need to have politician/influencer/actor/musician level of social skills to work in fucking IT.

My last 2 technical interviews where the same. They had a question where i said that i never worked or did x but worked with y that should be similar and i can learn x, but thats not enough. So all the other 5 ticked checkboxes are useless. In many cases i had interviews with the fucker asking me if i had worked with tech x, then i say yes, then he asks which version and thats it. Oh, you worked with dotnet before? Version 6? Thats too new, here we have legacy v3, thanks, goodbye.

You're not wrong, don't let others gaslight you. Interviewing was already a retarded wasteful exercise, but now it's turned up to 11. My experience is exactly the same as yours, except university/college, which I skipped, I did a lot of sports training instead which is where I got my confidence and social skills from.
The hardest part is to get to the actual technical decision maker, like your potential team mate, or a Principal, or even CTO sometimes, so you can have an actual conversation instead of trying to tick checkboxes visible only to the other side. It's like playing minesweeper in many ways.
What yields better results to me is to focus on smaller companies. The bigger they are, the longer the processes are, up to absurd 7 rounds, and more demotivated, disinterested and out of touch the people in the process are, you rarely get to decision makers unless you're well-trained in interviewing (which doesn't necessarily mean you're good at your job). I got my current job after one conversation with the CTO. One round of honest conversation, showing some things I've done, explaining how I've done them, and the thought process in each context, and that was it, I started the next day. Things should not be as complicated as they are right now, specially for people with tons of experience.

It's always QUICK CALL QUICK CALL QUICK CALL and maybe I need to stop replying but who knows maybe instead of escalating to my boss it ends up my VP or something and I don't think my boss will have my back if that happens.

This team is so retarded though, they're doing back to back testing on versions and they REALLY didn't give awareness that the second version was actually the major one so we only did testing on the minor one so we didn't sign off on the second one and all I get is the PM on my ass going "HELLO ANON YOUR TEAM DID NOT SIGN OFF ON X" "DOES IT LOOK THE SAME AS IN PROD? a couple of things, the question was very simple (think "remove duplicates from an array")
But then the interviewer kept hammering me about my decisions, asking me about edge cases, asking me to set up tests, etc.

I set up 5 tests for the question and the guy was edging me on to set up more tests, but I couldn't think of any because I'm used to programming practical shit, not redundant slop.
So for example my tests were
>input they gave me
>what if the array is empty
>what if the array is only duplicates
>what if 8 elements are duplicates but element 9 isn't
>large input of 500,000 elements

I asked claude to come up with all the tests it could and it shit out like 20 different tests, most of which were like
>what if all items are duplicates except the first
>what if the only non duplicate is in the middle
>what if all items are duplicate except the last
In practice since the question is so easy and the code simple, if function passes one of the above testcases it should pass all, but I think the guy kept suggesting me to do redundant shit like that and my autism had no idea that was what he wanted.

I don't think I failed per se but if the competition is tough (which it is) and someone else came around and knew exactly what the interviewer was implying, then yeah I'm eliminated.

It's about being in the rooms you need to be in so that your ideas get heard.
Humanity will always flow regardless of whether you're dead or alive. You must be the rock to adjust the water's flow how you see fit. You do that by forcing yourself into the appropriate place and plant yourself.
Nobody does this for you... You know, anyone can sit in front of a screen and write app code for the next trillion (remember we no longer care about billion) dollar idea, but you need to occupy the same plane of existence as the movers and shakers of humanity who can pull that app idea into reality.

You're witnessing the ultimate step in networking. News articles will always try and slander the person, but the man has the ear of the most powerful person in human history. His ideas are the ones which you all will dutifully implement. As the flow of humanity continues to meander, his name will be carved upon the guiding stone.
That's what you must always keep in mind for your career. Peasants have never been the ones to inherit wealth and riches. This never happens. What always happens is kingdoms flourish off of the vision of one or three people.

>>

Nah.
The work is mostly "take a look at this and figure out how it works."
Then I look at it for a few hours or days, try a bunch of things, and maybe come up with something. That's the rewarding part.

Giving job to ChatGPT and then having it come up with the same conclusions within 10 minutes is not fun, nor am I contributing anything. A monkey could do it, and likely more effectively because he won't waste time trying to understand anything.

NTA, but that's basically how things work at my place. No enforced AI use, not to mention IT dragging their heels.
If I do have to complain, it's about people dumping LLM output in chat and pretending it's a meaningful contribution. Believe it or not, I don't think that your first look at a problem as seen through the lens of an LLM is as helpful for troubleshooting as output generated by giving it data from verbose logs and descriptions of situations.

absolutely not
setting aside that the budget mysteriously appeared once they realized they would actually lose you, the fact they were paying you 50% less in the first place indicates they're either retarded or evil
there are services you can easily contract with as a business to get industry-wide salary information; so either they knew they were underpaying you, or they were too stupid to consider "hmm are we paying our employees a fair wage?"

unless the CEO himself gets down on his knees and says "oh shit bro i'm sorry we had no idea we weren't paying our employees appropriately, we're going to re-level everyone's salaries now that you brought this to our attention" (AND ANNOUNCED IT TO EVERYONE, not just you), cut your loses and move on

In an ideal day, I only need one hour to complete my actual work. However, upper management constantly invents absurd tasks - like endless meetings and multi-level reports - just to justify their positions. It is incredibly frustrating to hear them brag about being 'agile' when they are actually the most micromanaged, non-agile company I have ever worked for. This wastes immense time and money, and whenever things calm down, they just invent more busywork. I often feel the urge to scream at their incompetence, especially since I have a PhD in project management and they completely lack IT experience. However, I gave up trying to fix things two years ago when they rejected my honest advice.
How can I emotionally detach and suppress the urge to lash out at their ignorance?
