My favorites, two kakunos in Fine and Extra Fine and a Jinhao 20 which is basically a Vanishing point copy in Fine.

Ohto GS01 (with chink parker g2 refils) + GG1000 (with the cheapest lead and eraser replacements i can find).
You don't need more.

Faber Castell Grip X5 (instead of Pilot G). as smooth as gel ink, but quick drying.

Faber Castell Gripmatic (instead of Kuru Toga). its the poorman's Kuru Toga at fraction of the price.

i dont need more.

i am legit aspie about pens. don't you dare try to check me unless you know the difference between rollerball and ballpoint. When i'm in a bad mood I go spend $10 at Walmart to try some new pens and paper.

I went for safari meme for a bit; locking in if you write in cursive is exquisite. the consistent friction melts the pen to your brain. but goddamn, I always have trouble with inconsistent ink flow. always seems to light. maybe it's the cheap paper. idk. it always bugs me.

For quick, daily cheap pen, these dollar tree Inc Formas are incredible. my favorite daily pen. fat oval grip, dark rich ink, smooth consistent flow, good friciton level. seriously recommend these cheap dollar tree pens. pic related.

writing with a uniball eye on thick paper is the closest I've ever come to reexperiencing my first stepmother porno

I need a fountainpen ink that is
>black
>completely waterproof when dry
>wont dry out quick in a pen
>>
>>109141013
I don't know about completely waterproof but try Sailor Kiwa Guro. Dries quickly on paper, haven't clogged any of my pens if cleaned from time to time and have a deep black color.
If you want something that's completely waterproof like if you want to wash your writings/drawings I don't think a fountain pen is the right tool... But Kiwa Guro is very tolerant.
>>
>>109140709
Why the fuck would you use cheap pens instead of just bringing a good EDC pen?
>>
>>109142886
Cool. I'll try it out. Been using Platinum carbon ink.

I have two Jinhao 159 and neither of them is sealed properly with the cap screwed on.
It's only a matter of time until the nibs dry out and silicon gel on cap threads does not work.
How do I fix them?

when will the chinese learn to make stub nib i wonder. love my majohn a1, but would love a stub nib on it and at the price just the nibs go for I'm better off buying a real vanishing point with the stub option.

Using a new old stock Pilot Elite at my clinical site for patient notes. They were only produced in South Korea from the late 70s to early 80s. There was, and maybe still is a seller on eBay in Thailand who was selling them for a good price a few years ago who I ordered a shitload of brand new 40+ year old pens from. It's pretty nice although the nib feels kinda flimsy.

Legit aspie about pens but still buying cheap pens from a big box store?

I still haven't found anything better than the Pilot G2. You can cry >muh r*didn't! all you want but it's the best.
>>
>>109149350
Have you tried Energels? I was a big fan of G2s until I tried an Energel

Sharpie S-Gel mogs them both.

i have a UK made parker jotter

For black ink, sure
But it's a pain in the ass to find Sharpie S-Gel refills in other colors and I don't want to waste a ton of pen bodies
>>
Oh boy a thread for me. I've got a million ali special pens and pencils. I avoid the expensive stuff because I lose them so fast.
>>
>>109150558
A few years ago these would constantly get pruned. Hopefully things are better now.
>>
What pencils are you guys using? I found a Nicpro 0.5mm that is solid black metal and feels on par with a Rotring 600.
>>
Bic Ultra Round Stic Grip on 67lb card stock. Coming close is Pentel RSVP fine. Don't really like gel pens. I cut the card stock to whatever size I need. Its pretty cheap.

never had to use anything else.
this and iroshizuku fuyu-syogun is all i need

Recently went through a phase of autism and bought a bunch of fountain pens off Aliexpress because I wanted to draw diagrams and take notes in a diary.

I wanted one of those pens where you can modulate it to write really thick and really thin lines without changing the actual pen. I got some ultra thick nibs (2.5mm I think?) which was kinda alrightish, it had trouble with flow a lot of the time (and it's so big it's pretty impractical for taking notes with). I tried buying a "flex nib" as well which ended up being completely worthless and didn't even work (despite just the nib itself costing more than most of the pens I bought).

My favourite ended up being one of these naginata nibs. I saw you can get these double (or even triple) layered ones but they end up costing real money (~$100AUD for a triple).
>>
>>109151937
AliExpress pens are fucking terrible, I regret wasting money on many of them that ended up in the trash after trying to get them to work reliably, even going as far as trying to tune the nibs under my microscope. They're just fundamentally badly engineered. It's best to just pay more for something from a reputable company. Even then, if you go with something on the low end like a Parker Jotter for $15-$20, it might be shitty like the first one I had.
>>
>>109144663
you can grind your nibs to do that btw, also I think majohn just released some flex nibs if ya interested.
>>
>>109152071
I don't know the first thing about fountain pens but as far as I can tell it's pretty much the same as mostly anything else on there: hit and miss, with a few gems with really good price value. The naginata pen cost $7 and I'm happy with it.

been using twsbi eco with rohrer&klingner ink for some years
my only downside to it is the pen sorta resembles a vape when capped
i like that the ink is very cheap but also a nice quality, and its not a pure black but has a subtle cyan undertone
the eco writes smoothly, i mostly upgraded to it from my childhood lamy safari due to the big ink chamber, beast for uni notes
>>
>>109152083
>you can grind your nibs to do that btw
I won't be doing that.
I'll keep an eye out of those I guess.
>>109152323
Never did like transparent bodies on pens, have to use a kakuno because my metropolitan cracked for some reason and it's the only stub nib pen I got that I like.
>>
>>109140150
mine is on the way from china, cheaper than from EU seller, also with fine nib

Here is my stuff, like uniball pens for writing and notetaking. Rest is used for drawing. Almost everything was bought thru aliexpress because they had much better prices for japan made stuff than local sellers. Also have lots of other stuff for drawing but for now im using mechanical pens, fine liners and sometimes brush pens
>>
>>109152549
I'm partial to uniball signo 207s, I take the cartridges out and use them in a G2 limited, they write like a dream but I can never actually finish any single cartridge because the tiny wire tension spring holding the ball point eventually breaks and sticks out through the ball and it starts leaking uncontrollably, this still hasn't stopped me from buying more because G2 refills suck and uni signos are easy to find here and I'm not really willing to get sucked back into japanese pen autism again.
>>
>>109139135
Why ink pen still relevant, aren't they bullock carts ?

I used in school though, but now...
>>
>>109152571
zento refills are really nice, smooth, not too much smudging. Color when dried is bit lighter than other inks, more dark grey than black. For drawing its not that good, with minimal pressure ink just wont come out. U need to use normal writing level pressure for ink to come out of refill. For drawing Pilot g tec c4 seems to be my favourite but generally felt nib fineliners> ball point pen > gel pens for drawing
>>
>>109152549
keep in mind the Fine nib on the Jinhao is like a western medium, it is very smooth but it's just thick at about 0.5mm line width.
>Also have lots of other stuff for drawing
I'm also getting into drawing but I kinda suck ;p

A bent nib works great for that: https://arttoolkit.com/blog/2026/02/sketching-with-fude-bringing-life-to-your-lines-with-a-bent-nib-fountain-pen/
Much easier to use than a flex nib.
