A job I applied for two years ago has come open again. It wasn't listed during those two years so I assume they hired someone and that person is now leaving. It's an Application Security job and I have pretty deep knowledge of their primary tool, having worked on site with the developers of the scanner. I'm pretty demoralized and have been training recently for simulation tech, not cybersecurity, so not sure if I'll bother applying or not. It would be nice to be able to recharge my nearly depleted bank account but a two year gap seems like total resume death.

They also tend to pay more. The trick is that you can't request a security clearance as a private citizen. A government agency or contractor has to apply for one on your behalf when you're in a role that requires it. Of course if you have something in your background that's criminal, you'll want to avoid doing this.
