I just moved from Windows to Linux (more in concrete, Arch Linux)

Trying to make the MT7902 work was a chaos. I moved from LMDE7 to Debian 13, to Arch Linux

Goodbye Windows 11, hello Linux

An advice for all those who want to get into Linux (like me): do NEVER EVER pick ubuntu (that's trash, almost like a "Windows for Linux")
>>
Yes, it's Arch (DE is Cinnamon)
>>
nice blog, spic

Arch is good. Annoying security, but effective. Just disable and never use any updates or package managers other than stable releases.
>>

kill yourself faggot
>>109144951
good job op
>>
>>109144951
You are finally free from Microshit
>>
>>109144951
Anything with SystemD (Arch included) is trash "Windows for Linux", sorry.
>>
>>109144951
The wifi card you mentioned should be in 7.1, there's already experemental support for it in the kernel.
>>
>>109145038
I called Ubuntu "Windows for Linux" in terms of privacy

>Trying to make the MT7902 work was a chaos

All you needed was a newer kernel desu.
>>
>>109145056
SystemD is laying the groundwork for age verification.
Unless you rip it out you will have zero privacy.
>>
>>109145059
that + have cloned a repo which offers compatibility from 6.14 so on. WIsh I knew it while I was on Debian 13 (tho hey, Arch is also good)
>>
>>109145072
For next time, you can get a newer kernel from trixie-backports
https://packages.debian.org/trixie-backports/kernel/linux-image-amd64
>>
>>109145056
name one thing wrong with ubuntu privacy
>>
>>109145088
You have to sign in for security updates. Not even Windows does that.
>>
>>109145095
so if i ran
sudo apt upgrade
then it wouldn't update things unless i logged into something?
>>
Seeing Cinnamon on anything but Linux Mint feels off. But I kinda like it...
>>
>>109145108
It would update things. But you wouldn't have all update sources available to you. When you sign in, it adds additional update sources.
>>
>>109145121
i think the public ones are good enough for me. i only care about the maintainers for my software being allowed to push security fixes to me
>>
>>109145059
Not to defend canonical, but they have a hardware enablement kernel track (HWE), which ships newer kernels.
>>
>>109145095
This is wrong, you get security updates on the main repo for free for 5 years just like debian.
The ubuntu pro sub adds security uodates to the universe repo and extends the support for 15 years. Both these things aren't offered by either debian nor rhel.
>>
>>109145152
That's not how distros work. But suit yourself. Pretty sure APT on Ubuntu will tell you what security updates you are missing, btw.
>>
>>109145095
RHEL does that. Odd behavior.
>>
>>109145159
Yeah but I don't think that was OP's problem with Ubuntu.
>>
>>109145164
Yeah, and most users end up installing stuff from universe which ends up unpatched.
>>
>>109145176
Corpos gonna corp, I guess.
>>
>>109144951
Debian SID would have worked. When arch shits itself in a few days, switch to Debian and enable sid, sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade upgrade -y, and your WiFi will work.
>>
>>109145173
>That's not how distros work
why not? maintainers are usually quick to package the latest versions of software into my apt repositories
>>
>>109145197
Sorry I misread "maintainers" as upstream publishers. You are generally right but on Ubuntu it's up to Universe maintainers to patch stuff. The thing is, there are often patches available in Ubuntu Pro that the Universe maintainers didn't bother providing.

Compliance tracking and enterprise support. They’re distributions specifically for corporations. They don’t stop you from using them for free at home, but, they’re contracted oses. (You) don’t matter to them at all.
>>
>>109144951
>do NEVER EVER pick ubuntu
nonsense desu
>>
>>109144951
THANK YOU SAAAARRR!!!!
>>
>>109145179
I do neither like that Ubuntu requests high specs. Heard it asks for 6 GB RAM now. Not even Windows 11

SHUT THE FUCK UP TECHVEGAN
>>
>>109144951
and here begins OPs distrohopping and ricing arc. pick Ubuntu or fedora if you value your time.
>>
>>109145612
All because of that dam chip. But dw, i'm ok with Arch (Arch with Cinnamon, what else do u want?)
>>
>>109144951
don't use AUR
don't waste time ricing
