linux is usable without a manual. it's been a normie usable daily driver since 2011 becuase most people just use their web browser for everything

I tried to do like arch + sway and stuff and ive realized that as much as I like being able to config things I don't want to come home and read a fucking tech manual every time I try and open a picture with the right size in feh or get something to work at startup
>>
>>109151405
There's nothing to fix, it's effective gatekeeping. Linux doesn't need more normies demanding features and automation the vast majority of the userbase doesn't want, or wants to implement their own way manually. We have enough trouble with that already.
>>
>>109151546
he is somehow considered siccessful, while
>his right to repair campaign failed on all levels

>tells people to just stfu and accept it when a corpo rapes them
>clippy as silent disobedience to tell the evil corpo: "look, i will still buy your stuff, but i want you to know that i dont feel happy while i give you money"

Are you blatantly misrepresenting his position on purpose, or have you seriously never watched any of his videos?
That is genuinely so backwards that I actually don't know if you're trolling or retarded.
>>
>>109151405
The largest issue with Linux right now is Gnome (RedHat) and how they try to appeal to retards, building an idiot tablet UI and demanding everyone else to change for them.

RTFM culture has to come back. It needs to be acknowledged that appealing to idiots doesnt improve things. We have a case study proving that it makes things work.

The goal should be to either educate or gatekeep.
If you are tech incompetent and not interested, that is fine... then stay away from the internet.
>>

>>
>>109151626
what does the clippy thing do?
Making people feel like they are doing something, while letting corpos rape them.
Don't you see how this is counterproductive and harms the very cause he claims to support?
>>
why do all these tech youtubers seem to struggle with basic stuff? i don't have these problems with normie distros like ubuntu
>>
>>109151654
You seriously have never watched a single one of his videos, then have you?
He regularly tells people to not buy products that don't respect their rights. He regularly tells people to actually do things in real life.
show up to city council meetings, write to their councilor, write to congress, to stop buying products made by bad acting companies.
He literally created an entire wiki and encourages his audience to document every single time a company fucks them over so that people can avoid buying from those companies.
>>
>>109151666
Actions count more than words.
Telling people to use a clippy avatar to signal to corpos that you disagree with them, while they are still buying corpo crap, is defeatism.
You basically gave up and accepted your defeat and do something to make yourself feel better.
It's like living in 1984 and thinking "oh, but as long as i can think that 2+2=4, i am still part of the resistence!"
>>
People only use Linux so they can feel superior to everyone else when in reality nobody gives a fuck and laughs at them because linux is complete shit.
>>
>>109151666
also do you think that telling people that you have to "render an xrandr command" to use Linux is going to be helpful in getting away from corpos, or isn't he providing yet another excuse for normies to keep being cattle?
>oh yeah, fuck Micrsoft and fuck Apple, those evil corpos, but i just have to use their products, because i dont want to render xrandr commands, so i dont even try, someone else should fix it
>>
>>109151693
so you are saying that the introduction of the smartphone, which led to an influx of idiots on the internet who were previously gatekept, didn't cause a decline of quality and that the internet is much more awesome now with those billions of retards?
>>
>>109151687
You are extremely fixated on the clippy thing. I don't know if that's just because you're mega ultra autistic, or because you're just seeking desperately for something to criticize Rosman for.
At this point you're just making shit up about him to convince yourself.
Choosing clippy as the avatar for the movement was fucking stupid, but the idea is to increase visibility so that other people are regularly reminded that they aren't alone in caring about privacy or ownership. The visibility aspect OBVIOUSLY FUCKING WORKS, considering how butthurt you are every time you see a clippy.

That is the litmus test to spot controlled opposition.

He can say many nice things, but when he then steers people into a harmful direction (wasting your time or taking the spot from other, more capable, people is also harmfil) it means that he is at best controlled opposition.

I choose linux because I didn't like windows. if I install windows I have to go through a long list of things I have to do to make it less obnoxious and if I reinstall I have to do that all over again. with linux I have to go through a long list of things I want to get and if I reinstall I still have my home folder so most things I have made changes to are still there.

Everyone that does this is a fag regardless of what OS you do this with especially when you have a large audience that doesn't know how to sort out what you actually said from your general complaints, that this one part of x11 gave you problems. All they'll hear is the rest of your post where you imply the whole ecosystem is rotten to the core and deliberately rotten because its community is full of nerdy assholes who don't want to change it. People that have never heard of Linux don't know what the hell xrandr is but they do know what "Linux sucks" means. I like it better than Windows, but it's definitely not easy to use and intuitive as everybody claims. They're super special flavor with ctrl, cmd, option alone is something that takes time to get used to.
I wish I could just install KWin.

I literally didn't know how to use an iPhone when I got it. iOS is not intuitive at all. The only reason people "know" how to use it is because they've been using it for a decade.

No OS is usable without a manual aside from very simple appliance operating systems, like for watches and gaming consoles. And even those have manuals. And btw so does iOS, they just call it a "tour app".

This is just like the people that compare the $100 Walmart Android to a $1000+ IPhone and conclude that "Le Android is Shite". Of course configuring Arch Linux is harder than using OSX, but thats because your'e comparing your Fisher Price OS to a DIY distribution. If you're a lobotomite who still wants to get Linux, install something like Ubuntu or Mint, where even my grandma would have no issue getting into her email or Facebook.
>>
>>109168326
No, it's not. I mean, it partially is, but not in a way it matters. Mint looks ugly as shit compared to the beautiful skeuomorphic design of XP. Also it's not "the best OS of the current year", far from it actually. It does "feel like XP" only because it's genuinely outdated as fuck. But XP being outdated is the exact reason I'm not using it, so there's no reason to use Mint either.
>>
>>109168473
>beautiful skeuomorphic design
Kek, windows XP's luna theme was terrible, literally fisher price UI. Only zoomers larping as having y2k nostalgia think this. Windows XP was good because it was a functional operating system. Apple solved skeumorphism in Snow Leopard. Windows design meanwhile peaked in Aero.

It took me multiple searches to understand how to quit the program. Instant delete is some weird "Option + Command + Delete" shortcut, except there is no Delete key on the fucking keyboard. Apparently, you have to use Backspace.
And then there are permissions. I had so much trouble sharing my screen with my coworkers. macOS is full of small things like that, things neither Linux nor Windows have, making the whole OS useful only for opening a browser and scrolling.
