You now remember the fact Windows 10 (32-bit) demanded a mere 1GB of RAM. How times change!

total bullshit, I've been using 1GB RAM way back in WinXP days.

Konachan is 18.

Even XP wasn't viable on 1GB of RAM by 2008.

what was the use of 32-bit windows versions after XP again? exchange inability to use 64-bit software for NTVDM and 16-bit windows 3.x apps?

SP3. SP2 ran on 256MB.

This is a guide article, so I'd expect this factors in a web browser, file managing, doing some text editing, all while also leaving the system room for a small disk cache. That's not the same as a "minimum to be able to run at all".
>>
>>109156341
That's insane man, Windows 8.1 was 800MB on idle.

How much RAM do PCs use right now compared to back then? I doubt there is much of a difference,
>>
>>109155973
why the fuck would you use ubuntu anyways

>1gb was a lot not even 20 years ago

Nobody gives a fuck child, you didn't use it so you don't know what it's like to run Windows XP with 256MB of RAM. It was barely tolerable with 768MB, but anyone who wasn't a turbo poor would use 2GB.
>>
>>109156600
XP idled around 200 MB.
Windows 11 idles around 4 GB
>>
The problem isn't the OS itself, it's the UIs which are increasingly coded by jeets using webshit frameworks that launch an entire browser process just to display a fucking menu.
>>
>>109156951
I recall putting XP on a Thinkpad that had a Pentium 1 and 32MB of RAM, if I recall correctly. It took hours and hours to install but once it was done it ran fine for day to day use.

1GB of ram is more than enough. 512 Even. XP is a little more bloated an 2k. But close enough for the following comparison. Back 2010 I was running an 800Mhz Athlon with 320MB of ram. The machine was highly capable, I was able to browse the web, download torrents, watch tv rips. I could open dozens of tabs in opera and the machine remained usable.
>>
>>109154557
640KB should be enough for everyone
