>>109168165Fpbp fuck obsidian, trash software
Used Evernote forever, then they became excessively Jewish, so I tried a lotta slop. migrated my shit to picrel in the end. It's yhe closest I found to Evernote, but I lost image support. Hurts. In reality I use freaking Google Keep almost every single day.FML
wish there was a way to embed files in markdown files so a file with 50 images was just 1 large file (that you could unzip to het the text and images as loose files or whatever) rather than 51 files totalobsidian is decent, tho i mostly just use my code editor. not sure what use the mind maps and so on are, feels like pretend productivity
>>109170458I also used Evernote until they lost their minds, Obsidian is the best replacement I found for it.
>>109170458Notesnook is just the best I could find, there was also Joplin that is sweet but requires third party sync or pay to use their sycning.
>>109171485Selfhost a bookstack instance. You get the syncing for freeIf you don't have a server at home, then a cheap vps will run you like $18 / year. If you don't want to open any ports (understandable) setup a VPN with it and you're good to go.

When I was still taking classes, I took all my notes in Latex. Works fine enough.

SilverBullet is nice, FOSS and self hosted. The lua scripting is cool if you take the time to learn it, you can also just use it like obsidian with back linking.

>>109168156I vibe coded my own, imagine not using custom made software in current year
i usually just type stuff into notepad or obsidian, it depends on how impatient i am with trying to route through folders and other bs.
I wasted some time taking notes for notes sake which was a waste of time and productivity masturbationbut now im doing an engineering degree and its very useful. I setup a priority system and have a multi-step process like a kanban board where every thing I ever read or write gets turned into anki cardsspaced repetition / anki is the real secret to learning. Note taking itself is mostly a waste of time.
Can anyone explain what exactly am I supposed to take notes on? I can understand having to take notes if you're someone involved in content creation, a writer, a researcher, a teacher or a student. But I am none of those, I just work on webslop daily. What the fuck am I supposed to take notes on?
>>109174350where's the graph from? is it useful in any way? can you see the names of pages after focusing on the dots?
>>109174510It's a default feature, its not really useful apart from showing off
>>109174350Same desu.Spent a lot of time perfecting my note taking with Emacs, but kinda realised that I don't even need that many notes.
>>109174510>where's the graph from?obsidian has a native graph>is it useful in any way?mostly marketing gimmick, it just looks nice but it's irrelevant because you will Ctrl+F all the time if we are talking about regular notesthere's an extremely tiny amount of usecases where it can actually be useful such as OSINT/investigative work>can you see the names of pages after focusing on the dots?if you zoom in yeah, you can also use filters
feature I actually use is tagging notes by priority and quality and using the database thing so I always know which note needs turning into anki notes nextif it wasn't for making anki notes I might as well just delete all of my notes and forget about it. active recall is the only thing that matters. Having notes to refer to is actually worse for learning for many reasonshttps://www.justinmath.com/why-i-recommend-students-not-take-notes/there's a good plugin to easily make any line or paragraph into an anki noteanother good thing is there is a shit ton of user plugins, seeing as Obsidian itself doesn't have many good features. I even had to use a plugin to add the enum types in this screenshot.

I vibe coded my own app that is integrates LLM and other ML techniques to build a knowledge graph and retrieval system that automatically pushed knowledge into the right corner, tags, digests etc.Its a work of process but the goal is to just put my thoughts or todos into it and its all perfectly organized and can be retrieved by natural language
>>109168156>OneNote but shit.
>>109174977leavenobody needs this. structured notes are equivalent to structured thoughts which is why you should develop and implement your own note schema. if you just spew random ideas into an llm parser for generic object types it's a classic garbage in garbage out situation. a fucking waste of resources.
>>109174017yo what the helly? why does it have access to the browser history and passwords?
>>109175081>falling for the bait
>>109174017Something is retarded here. Your OS, your browser, or you.Obsidian can't access your secure passwords unless you store them in text files on your computer.
>>109175053What are you smoking faggot lmao
>>109175108>yeah bro believe in muh woke closed software program from the epstein country
>>109174350>multi-step process like a kanban board where every thing I ever read or write gets turned into anki cardshows dat work? A script? >spaced repetition / anki is the real secret to learning. Note taking itself is mostly a waste of time.Interesting to hear that, hm..
>>109168156I've tried Obsidian, I've tried Org in Emacs, I've tried OneNote and an overpriced ReMarkable and they all are a waste of time.A simple A6 notebook allows me to write everywhere, instantly and without having to deal with whatever markup language your editor forces you to use. Markdown is too barebones for most usages and Org mode has a steep learning curve that just doesn't make sense.
>>109172608Bookstack looks interesting. Currently an obsidian paypiggy because I couldn't find anything that would allow relatively simple syncing across various platforms + a relatively good UI. How usable is it from a phone if I wanted to add some notes via an android device?
>>109175108how do you think they are stored?
i can never get into these shitskeeping everything in you head remains undefeated
>>109169814Think the issue is they are focusing on the db based version with markdown being a mirroring thing.
Why is there so much seethe in the thread? It's just a cool notetaking/multipurpose personal wiki programI like itThe biggest issue is the community being full of AI bros and obsessive custooomizers that spend their days adding and configuring 300 plugins instead of just using the damn thing
Luddites stay sleeping on anytype
Note-taking apps are definitely a cult, but there is a compelling aspect to paraphrasing what you read and putting it in a larger, interconnected format. The main issue stems from most of its ardent supporters using these programs for recipes, blogs and mindfulness instead of showing practical examples. At the same time you can't blame them, as in most cases the casual user isn't going to extract a lot of value from Markdown, Zettelkasten, Personal Wikis etc. Instead, they'll download various plug-ins, get obsessed with making everything functional or pretty and then abandon it a week later.
>>109176266>obsidian but for privacy schizos evendoe obsidian is already local
>>109176302Yerp and mobile version is still gimped but she's a good lass
>>109176164You answered your own question frog-samaIn all seriousness, 4chan has always been anti-productivity
The fact that there is no go-to FOSS suggestion in these threads, makes me think that obsidian is really the best. I keep researching and trying out alternatives. Cherrytree or notion might be the next ones I look into.I am spoiled by the folder-like architecture, so the durrr use txt faggots can suck it
>>109176389The main reasons for using FOSS software for an end user are pricing and privacy. As obsidian is independently audited, local, and free to use both personally and commercially there is no real reason to downgrade to something like logseq.

I need to plan my lessons and keep track of my copious amounts of trash I need to remember about kids and classes. Honestly OneNote has saved my life a couple times. Can’t do all this shit with a .txt file or a notebook I can forget to take. I’ve been looking into switching to google stuff, because it’s easier to work with cross platform, so I can use my linux machine at home as well. But it’s still a bit icky to me.

>>109176590he's right though>Malware, short for malicious software, is any program or code designed to intentionally damage, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to computer systems, servers, or networks. >>109174017>internet accessOH NOES IT'S LITERALLY SPYWARE STALLMAN SAVE US ALL AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>109168156how to sync? tell. now. ios + freebsd
I don't get it. Am I supposed to manually link notes? That seems tedious as fuck.
>>109168156I tried to use it, but the issue is that my Notes "vault" is a mixture of the sort of structured ceremonial "mental maps" that Obsidian likes (you know, with pictures, self references and shit) and loose .txt files that i have no reason to have sorted beyond its filename, some basic tags at most (becase these files are either holding data and will be dismantled later, or are some dead simple paragraph with 4-6 links and some minor context attached to them, many not even that but text stubs, from something like i.e. any chat or some forum's reply). Obsidian doesn't work with the later. Is the right tool only for like 40% of my notes.
>>109170406>Helix NotesIs there a way to disable the WYSIWYG rendering? some of my files are very disorganized, like raw txt comments from a random blogpost or a list of links whom i don't need the format for anything. Using any of these fancy solutions so fare hasn't cut for me for that reason, because if i have to open another text editor to sort them out less they become unreadable, i'll use that one 90% of the time.
>>109178144If there was a file explorer that would open the txt files to the right with the folder structure on the left, without opening new txt windows, I would be open to the suggestion
>>109168156it doesn't solve note taking. it creates autistic diversions and busy work in order to avoid actually acheiving anything. it's do nothing software, you spend more time on the software than the task. it's basically another shade of linux, instead of larping as a systems admin you're larping as a secretary. both are gay.
>>109175282It's a webpage, so you'd be typing into a form, like this webpage. Can you do that? It supports a couple different formats, markdown being one of them. You can link between different pages and books, but you don't get the graph view that is obsidian's only real feature, but because of how bookstack is organized, you select a location of where to add a note / chapter / book, you sort of get that same organizational structure for free.
