They finally found a way to kill by making storage devices unaffordable (hard drives, ssds along with ram, gpus) or not producing it anymore (blu ray burners, internal optical drives). This will slowly suffocate the piracy scene because people won't be able to afford new backups, replace failing drives, expand storage, hoard data.

Not to mention that all piracy related sites are going down rapidly one by one (rargb, vimm's lair, anime tosho, myrient and many others) or getting raped by cloudfare and political instability (rutracker). Even GOG is planning to get closed soon due to "reasons".

The average user is too dumb for any DIY related stuff including piracy, young people are retarded or brainwashed, they'll gladly live a life without even touching a personal computer and get used to pay for temporarily accessing pixels on the screen and blame China for high prices, degradation of life standards and human rights.

There's no way out of this. This psychopathic fucks found a way to make our life even more miserable.
>>
>>109168611
I don't know man. Maybe piracy for new shit will be next to impossible but piracy for stuff that has been released in the last 100 years will be there, at least for me. You still need local storage and if it comes down to sharing USB drives between friends then so be it.
Kikes won because the goyim are meek, retarded trash for the most part.
>>
>storage devices unaffordable
that will affect vod and streaming first, because of their easing model/renting to aws

>piracy related sites are going down
dht + soulseek + emule

rutracker still works fine, also there are mirrors

i also met a guy irl that runs one of the largest piracy site/network in my country, most of his users are teen

the situation isn't that hopeless if glownigger had to pay punjab labor to make these demoralization threads.
>>
>>109168611
The most that'll happen is the average person being inconvenienced enough to the point they'll just fork over the shekels anyways. You can't fix that.
Realistically, if there's a will there's a way, and I doubt anyone that truly cares enough about piracy will be affected.
>>
>>109168611
Streaming platforms were the final nail in the coffin. New generations prefer paying for some of those platforms than having to search new webs all the time and installing programs, etc. I even prefer that too, I think it's easier to do and you have enough content to watch for the money you pay.. When the older generations that grew up downloading movies from the internet stop doing it then there won't be new people doing it, it will slowly die.
>>
>>109168611
Legit gaming needs more storage than ever. They're not even including discs with physical copies anymore.

Yet another defeatist /g/ thread with faggot OP buying into the idea that local hardware is dead and that this crisis will now continue forever and nothing can stop it because media headlines say so.

At this point you should honestly kill yourself if you cannot let a single optimistic mind through your thick skull.

Videogames will be 90% digital soon. Physical discs will be for the same people that like to buy vinyls today. For collection or nostalgia. And after they are digital, they will be streaming too. You will pay a monthly subscription and you will be able to play the games without even downloading them.
>>
>>109169494
Game streaming is never going to take off the way that video streaming did, it’s just not physically possible to fix the latency problem. I’ve tried the very best streaming solutions on the market with a dedicated 1k fiber line and the input lag is unbearable.
>>
>>109169510
Yeah that os right, it is not possible now but it will be some day in the future when there is better technology that fix that.
>>
>>109168611
piracy will die only when there's nothing left worthwhile to pirate.
>>
>>109169521
You clearly don’t understand the issue. The issue isn’t technology, it’s physics. Light can only move so fast and waiting for data to go back and forth to a remote location to handle your input will always result in noticeable input lag. We’d need to literally break causality to change that.
>>
Piracy is what's killing piracy. It's inherently parasitic and selfish and such things are doomed to failure and collapse. You're talking about prices? Good because pirates don't have money so you're half right. People complaining about media quality but NO MONEY NO VOTE NO VOICE

who gets what they WANTING? NOT PIRATS

Piracy is a niche hobby now because it's enough of a pain in the ass (wait hours for dickgirl repack to install then reboot your computer to run a kernel-level exploit every time you want to play the game) that it's easier to buy the game for a few bucks during a Steam sale. If you hate piracy, thank Denuvo and Gaben.

If I ever need more space, I will just convert everything to AV1 and save a lot of space.
>>
>>109168611
Nah, in order for them to kill storage they'd need to keep making things worth keeping. As is, all the new big things in gayming and movies are all garbage, so even though it's TYOOL 2026 everybody has the storage needs of somebody in 2016.
Anybody who is smart already has downloaded everything they care about and thus already has the storage needed to outlast the AI crunch.

Chinese Ram is affordable and Asian countries stand to benefit. They also do not give a shit about piracy.
... You are also assuming piracy is for Games and roms. In reality it's a lot of YouTube ripping and streaming movies or reading comics and manga that are posted all over.
>Average user is too dumb for DIY stuff.
I know. And they have no interest in learning. I tried teaching them, they don't listen.
The thing is once piracy is too small to care about, they stop going after it.
Torrents are kinda dead though.
It's sad but it is what it is

This has always been the case. I don't think the next generation is any more incapable of piracy than the one before.

I would say that’s about right. Trying to play something fast-paced like a shooter is awful. You get an image that looks worse than native 1080p with terrible input lag. It’s the same with Xbox, Amazon and Nvidia’s streaming services in my opinion. I had no problems with the input lag when playing puzzle games, however.

why read a book, when you can generate a book.

same for video games, films, anime, porn, ect.

>Piracy will die
I've heard this one before.
>by making storage devices unaffordable
They need to keep making HDDs for datacenters, and although the price per TB is higher is still very affordable.
There's thousands or millions of autists worldwide (including me) that can't absolutely spend few thousands of bucks every 10 years to store hundreds of terabytes of information and there's decentralized protocols to share such informations such that it's redundant.
Nothing is going anywhere.
>The average user
The average retard never matters, see the Pareto distribution, it's always a small minority that makes things happen.
>>
My pirate setup has less than 5TB of storage. That covers everything that is getting watched and requested for about 4 Months.
People can just request what they want to watch, and it is going to be there in minutes. It tracks running TV shows and anime, downloads newly released movies automatically, so there is always something to watch and browse for the usual brain rot.

Pirating does not equal data hording, when the internet has everything.
5 TB is a lot of storage if you are not hording old shit you don't watch.
The torrents and Usenet pipeline has been around now for decades, and no indication that they will be able to get rid of it.
Today with help of an LLM even tech illiterates can set this up in short time.

The world is more than just western Europe and the US, there are probably over a billion people for whom piracy is practically a way of life and a societal institution.
There's a market incentive to cater to them, even making more optical media isn't the kind of impossible task you think it is, the tooling is actually not that expensive.
>>
>>109168611
storage device prices are a nothingburger, they only affect brand spanking new drives off amazon

>muh 2TB+ SSDs!
ssds are for the OS and maybe one or two games / programs that really benefit from being installed on them, so you don't need that much capacity, 500GB - 1TB max is plenty, a fully updated windows (LTSC) is ~50GB, linux distros are probably way smaller

>HDDs are going up too!
you don't need to buy a brand new hdd to replace a failing one. if you're buying them to hoard data then unless the drive has been used to shit then it doesn't matter if they're 10, maybe even 15 years old. there are plenty of second-hand drives on ebay that aren't as expensive as people think they are

What happens if some day there is a new law where if your ISP detects you are downloading movies they cut your internet connection immediately? VPNs are banned, no way to hide your activity, etc. I think something like already exist in some countries but I mean if it is everywhere.
>>
>>109174255
>What happens if some day there is a new law where...
Why are you even making these hypothetical future scenario to prove that piracy is going to die? What kind of mental illness you have?
Anyway it wouldn't be enforceable, encryption exists they can't see what content you are downloading, VPNs (or proxies in general) can be obfuscated so that they are indistinguishable from HTTPS (also encrypted).
Governments and corporation lost this battle decades ago, encryption won, they lost.
They have been playing a completely different battle since then, which is to control the client-side, see mobile panopticon OS like Android or DRM and remote attestation, but all of that does not affect anyone that uses free operating systems like Linux, so basically it only affects normalfags, and in the end they only care about controlling normalfags, they don't care about a minority of autists that pirate.
Piracy is not going anywhere.
>>
>>109168611
I have a shocking revelation for you OP: I pirated the most when I could afford the least and the concept of a "backup" didn't even exist for me.

You seem to think about pirating content like some sort of high-end hobby where you jerk off about setting up your own faux-Netflix with your home server racks and masturbatory 3-2-1 backup scheme or something.

Storage will probably become way cheaper only reason storage became so costly is because the big ones above 8tb use helium and most of that is being produced in ukraine war areas.

As for ram, cpus and gpus the hillarious thing is that the anti china moves by the usa put china in a position where they need to do a manhattan tier project to get hardware asap and also support open ai in worse case scenario to smuggle parts if they fail to produce their own (by creating a market for high level gpus etc).

Point being they put biggest industrial power in a position were they either go full autarky or they get rekt, most likely scenario is that china starts to mass produce all the things that are needed for AI at home with their own hardware early 2030s, usa pressures current companies to invest in the american hemisphere mostly in the usa to get a significant level of autarky and the rest of factories they keep in japan, south korea and taiwan probably at current levels of production.

But there will be eventually a reaction by the usa they really can't let nvdia, ram producers and others keep current margins without increasing production and give china a fantastic entry point to what is probably the hardest market.

They already fucked shit up with cars and gave china an entry on the electric car industry i doubt they will be as retarded again.
