Why aren't you gaming on linux? Most apps beside very professional level software just werks and gaming just werks.

Even the scaling and desktop feel is better than windows 11

im paid to work on desktop linux and i still refuse to over game on this shit. It's like you purposely shoot yourself for "freedom".
games work best on, were tested on and were developed on windows, so I'm going to use windows to play them. IDGAF about "FOSS" or "Microsoft bad". I use linux for work, I use windows for gaming, I use discord to talk to myself. Stop being retarded and use the best tool for the job

I'm too lazy to convert my drives away from NTFS. I heard the newest Linux NTFS driver is as fast as any other filesystem so perhaps now is the right time? I just don't want to find out that it's unstable and will lose all my data.

If I uninstall all muh games, I'll probably have enough storage to convert everything. But that's a hassle. And what if it doesn't work out and I want to go back to Windows? And there will be software that I need to dual boot Windows for, anyway. I know there's a BTRFS driver for Windows, but eh...

It's all just annoying. For now, staying on Win10 is easier.

I had problems with mounting my external ntfs drive with the new driver and had to go back to the old, slow one. The new driver always marked my drive as "broken" and that it needed fixing but I could only do that by plugging it into Windows and running a lengthy scan and repair. When I plug it into Linux again it would then instantly break the drive and refuse to mount again so there was no real solution. In the past I could still mount it and just ignore the warning since it was a false alarm anyway but they later changed it to refuse to mount alltogether with a kernel update. The real problem is that it always gives the external drive a "dirty" flag which then needs fixing in Windows. My internal ntfs drive was somehow not affected by this.

And I read that the new ntfs driver had some issues with data loss at first but I think that has been ironed out by now (hopefully).

Battlefield 1 running on linux is the main reason I switched my main gaming pc to linux. Ironically its the one game I have to boot windows for now. The new anti cheat works ok, very rarely see cheaters these days. worth the separate windows drive.

>>
>>109170754

>>
>>109171325
This is exactly why Valve came up with the Steam Linux runtimes. These provide a namespaced environment where all the libraries are static and they will remain the same for years to come. Proton also starts in a Linux runtime environment so i too will keep on running.

It does basically the same thing Microsoft does with WinSxS, except as a real OS feature rather than a compatibility hack and you only need one copy of the libraries, not a dozen.
>>
>>109171363
I see, that makes sense. That's unfortunate.

packing the same userspace over and over again is not a good solution for compatibility. I don't want 100 versions of glibc or the entire goddamn userspace duplicated for compatibility sake.
Linux should have a sane userspace in the first place.
>>

the upside is that cheaters are very rare now. I did see an invisible guy running incredibly fast yesterday but they used to be on every non-community server 24/7

Lots of games don't support limiting frame rates, or require VSync (yuck!). I also like ShadowPlay, it's really good. And then there's anticheat problems. There are actually a billion problems. Also you cannot play awesome games like SS13 or Distant Worlds: Universe. It's better to just dual boot.

We mustn't allow Steam to come to GNU/Linux

Steam is an online service by Valve Corporation which allows you to purchase and download games that you access by signing in to an account. According to their user agreement, access to games is associated with the account, not the computer. But before you sign up, I urge you to take a look at the subscriber agreement first. You may not like what you find: DRM and several violations of the four freedoms.

As far as I can tell, the software even won't work on my operating system. It only works for Windows and Mac.
You must have an Internet connection to play your games.
People can't offer it in Internet cafes (no commercial usage):"Agreement does not allow you to exploit the Steam Software or any of its parts for any commercial purpose including, but not limited to, use at a Cybercafe"**
You're forced to install Steam's software updates onto your computer.
You're only permitted to use Steam Software how Steam says you can.
You do not own the games you buy:"The Steam Software is licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in the Steam Software."
You're not allowed to modify Steam Software.
You are not allowed to re-sell your game.

Steam is a perfect example of how DRM curtails your rights.
>>
>>109171641
steam drm is only a tiny obstacle.
1. download your purchased game using steam.
2. replace steam_api libraries with goldberg emu
3. play the game without steam forever.

>>109171612
Vulkan translation is better than directX on AMD, less stutters, smoother frametimes
KDE wayland is a superior desktop experience, smoother than windows, seamless scaling for 4K, unified intuitive settings that isnt a dumpster fire like windows 11
Privacy, No spying, More secure.

But you already knew all that, considering you are in a linooox thread.

Plenty of multiplayer games work on linux. The 10% that dont actively choose not to support linux and remove support will be isolated insane devs who will be seen as anti linux activists and have some deeper agenda tied to banning it. They will be ostracized.

If you're hosting a VPS, Linux is the default choice unless you want to pay $20 extra per month for windows loicense.

KDE is already better than windows 11 by a lot, maybe not on the stability as windows 7 or 10 yet, but its 80% of the way there. KDE 7 will probably be the best version yet, and valve pouring money into steamOS/KDE devs now that no one will buy their hardware is even more likely.

>gaming just werks
I am mostly gaming on linux but that's the biggest lie told. Many games just work but a majority of the games require some kind of launch command to get the optimal outcome, depending on the distro you basically need to go into high performance mode too or some gaming mode if they have it.

because if you want to take control of your life, you have to be choosy with things you interact with rather than eat up everything you've been given by entities above.
this applies to both hardware and software.

Because regardless of what you think these are minority problems. There's only like 8 notable multiplayer games that dont work, and two of them apex legends and rust used to work with linux. Yes fortnite, pubg and and cawadooty do have kernel level anticheats and they are popular, but you should not play them because they boycott linux, so you should boycott them as well. Especially with better multiplayer games available.

95% of games work on linux because its just translating

As for the photoshop problems, not really a problem 98% of people arent professional creators where its a big deal where their work requires it.
As for libreoffice, look nothing in your life is that important to where you NEED a certain piece of software.
That goes for all this, if a software is dictating your life, maybe you should find a fix for that.
