Honestly, I hate MS for killing this beautiful simple OS. It was stable without constant updoots and online crap (unlike Troondows 10 and 11), backwards-compatible (unlike Shitux and macOS) and skeuomorphic with transparent glass, which makes it still a pleasure to look at after all those years, especially compared to today's stale corporate GUI.

Honestly, what more did you need? and what more do you still need that WIN32 API (home32 API as I'd like to call it) can't provide?

64-bit cpu doesn't have virtual 8086 mode, so microsoft didn't bother to work around that.
wine, however, is able to run 16-bit windows programs on a 64-bit system.

>>
>>109171740
This is a common misconception. The NTVDM source code has an 8086 emulation core which could have been used on amd64. The actual reason is handle sizes. 64bit windows increased the number of significant bits in handles to 32. This means its no longer possible to pass handles through 16bit code.
>>
>>109171779
What do they need more than 65k handles for
>>
>>109171715
shut up fruitnigger aero zoomer windows 98 was way better
>>
>>109171831
Handles are multiples of 4, so its actually 16384. Anyway, clearly some customers had run out of handles, given that on windows a significant number of object types share the same handle space.

the only game i cant run with vxkex on is ctagoh so what i do is symlink the steamapps folder for 2 steam installs. one is the normal eol win 7 steam client that i use to run games, the other is more up to date for the current dl compression (you have to rename steam.exe steam_test.exe or w/e you like to bypass some steam injection protection bullshit for vxkex to work i think.

so i just run steam #2 update to the symlinked folder then swap to steam #1 and play

Lel that's the irony of it all, the Windows 7 maniacs are relying on fucking FOSS to even use internet, yet they shit on Linux as if it's some unusual thing, meanwhile using Windows 7 is even more unusual, less supported and ridiculous than Linux.
>>
>>109176861
They are just as freaky and there is a way higher concentration of them, in fact they are basically THE only people devving for 7 and making 7 usable today.
Of course the real problem is microsoft deprecating 7 because under the hood it's not massively different from 10 and 11. But using 7 because linux has too many genderspecials devving for it is derangement of the highest order and should be an F diagnosis.
Then you have russians you know absolutely nothing about and I think they rarely opensource their hacks. That's about it for legacy windows, you do everything at the mercy of trannies and russians. Kek.

>>109180150
It was a positive when I was younger, same with minimizing animations of windows and eye candy in general, but you get older and realize that is wasted CPU cycles and memory
>>
>>109180168
Animations can help usability, though. For example, if a window just vanishes, it is not clear whether you closed it or minimized it; but if there is an animation of it scaling down and moving to the taskbar or dock, it is clear that it was minimized.
