Raytracing is bad because the shimmer looks like ass. It's extra terrible in requiem.

Real-time ray tracing really shines if you're using something like Unreal Engine for rendering movies. You get to crank the graphics settings beyond what is typical for AAA games.

different perspective and lighting, also dlss AA and sharpening is not a factor or RT, they only turn it off on native to make it look worse

I've lived through the transition from 2D to 3D, to programmable shaders and real-time lighting.
Intel's first attempt at a GPU, graphics APIs coming and going, gimmicks like PhysX when it was still an add-on card, the death of S3, 3dfx, PowerVR, XGI etc.
With all that out of the way, I can't think of any other technology that has been on the market for 8 years and failed so miserably at gaining mass adoption.
If you need frame gen and ML upscaling, and ray reconstruction, and god knows what else just to get a decent frame rate, maybe it's not worth it.
>>
>>109174031
All of those were just for the sake of furthering real-time graphics.
They eventually got surpassed by better hardware/software, and ray tracing will stick around until it gets surpassed cause its just that, furthering of real-time graphics.
>>
>>109173164
OMG ARE THOSE CONTACT SHADOWS???
TECH WE"VE HAD FOR 15 YEARS BUT NOW LOCKED BEHIND 20FPS RAYTRACING FOR NO REASON? ???OMG OMG
>>
>>109174071
>All of those were just for the sake of furthering real-time graphics.
But all the new technologies introduced in the beginning of this century were adopted much quicker and didn't come with such a horrendous performance penalty.
The only thing that took a while was the transition from DirectX 7 cards to DirectX 8/8.1 because the budget options were all DX7 - there was no budget GeForce 3 and the 4 MX cards were closer to an updated GeForce 2 than GeForce 4.
The R200 and R300-based cards from ATI were great, but they couldn't move the whole market on their own.

120 fps vs 37 fps
t. RTX 4090 owner
>>
no pedo accusations? wow.
>>
>>109173459
nobody needs it. it's dumb. still, nobody can find an actual gaming application for it.
>>
>>109173164
Raycasting is more than enough, raytracing is just a waste of money.

No, it's not contact shadows, you muppet, it's normal shadows, we had those for even longer

The raycasting timeline would be superior. Ray casting would eventually evolve into hardware accelerated voxel based ray tracing. But unlike how RTX ray tracing is garbage, this alternative timeline would actually have good ray tracing evolved incrementally from ray casting.
>>
>>109173164
why couldn't they bake that thing?
From what I understand the game consists of hallways with set lighting no?
>>
>>109173940
great example of how raytracing only looks good in brightly lit outdoor areas. it's dogshit for any other usecase and op's pic is proof of that. yes i have a raytracing card
>>
>>109174379
Shimmering doesn't disappear on any settings, bozo.
>>
>>109174591
I bet it looks better in a different game than WoW but you're completely right.
>>
>>109174293
There's never been a gameplay loop for atmosphere, yet it still affects the entire game.
I like ray tracing because sometimes a real time hard shadow is just worth it.
>>
>>109174031
Funny you should mention Feame Gen and ML Upscaling, because those are the exact technologies that are being mass-adopted right now. Next Gen consoles will all have FP4 upscaling models baked into every game.
>>
>>109173164
The non-RTX is obviously lower quality settings.
>>
>>109173164
I mean the shadow casting looks good but now the other 95% of the door looks like wet clay, of course nobody wants to pay 2000 dollars for these capabilities.

>>
>>109175708

>>
>>109173164
I got a 4090.
Yes games that were designed with rt in mind look ass without.
However rt games where rt was used as a crutch looks like ass compared to games that do proper rastering.
>>
>>109173164
But is the game any fun to play?
>>
>>109174858
I'm well aware, the "killer feature" of PS6 will be beefed up hardware RT paired with ML upscaling and frame generation.
Hopefully they'll be targeting 1080p 60fps native and upscale to 4k 120Hz, because the current generation has some games running at 720p native, and 30 fps to 60fps is god awful.
>>
>>109174507
Those are still normal shadows, despite what UE calls them. Contact shadows are usually just ambient occlusion
>>
>>109173940
Left can be completely done without gay tracing and real time
>>
>>109173164
It looks better with RTX off

>>

bits of it.

Its cool, but hardly worth the performance hit for the majority of games its in.
Cyberpunk is the only one where I have it on.

Still haven't found a game that maxes this stuff out. Can somebody help me find the most beautiful game I could play in 4K RTX?
>>
this place really hit rock bottom
>>
>>109173164
raytracing is bad because even a 575w gay factor $3600 graphics accelerator is reduced to its knees for extremely marginal fidelity increase
with some bonus fun features like shadow pop in
>>
>>109173164
>I'll take a blurry picture of the game while moving the camera while the memetracing one is a perfectly still picture where all rays have been properly cast and without using upscalers or lowering the resolution
You sure told us, jensen, now I'll buy six 5090s at 5000€ each just so you can buy yourself another 50 million dollars mansion.
>>
>>109173164
that's not how lighting works
>>
It's bad because it's immature and affordability counts as well for games.
>>
>>109173164
m8 it's been years... In 2026 you can get 3080 for like $350, or some low end modern one if you're into fake framerates and gay resolutions.
>>
>>109173940
congrats on changing the entire atmosphere to a generic minecraft inspired indie game
looks exactly like those minecraft "real life" shader videos people would go crazy over back in 2012
>>
>>109173164
which one is supposed to be better? left looks more natural.
