the ensteamification of gaming needs to stop.

I don't think these retards thought this out. We learned from Ubishit and Epic that no one can compete with Steam. So if consoles become like a shittier Steam, everyone will just switch to Steam.
What the fuck is wrong with this industry.

You're only mad about this because you've been told to be mad about it, it's basically a litmus test for whether you fall for performative outrage. We don't use discs for anything anymore. You don't buy software off the shelf from the store and put it into your computer's optical drive, you just download it from the internet onto your local system. Why are you mad that the game gets downloaded onto your console's SSD instead of put on a spinning disc that's sold to you separately? SSDs and hard drives are literally physical media. The games have DRM regardless of whether they're on a disc btw.

quickly turns into
>we don't use consoles for anything anymore
except maybe Nintendo, that's actually providing a unique worthwhile experience
>>

Caring about "physical media" in 2026 and actually meaning discs for modern consoles is a zoomerism. You're 20-25 years old at most
>>
just use geforce now lol what's the problem

who even buys consoles anyway
>>
>>109179569
>Oh nyo, they're gonna take our consoles away, just like they took our computers away after we stopped buying physical installation disks for Microsoft Office 2007

nintendo don't put games on the cards either
>>
>>109179597
not great since you can't really preserve the media, but still better than snoy because you can resell

Isn't gaming the last form of physical media? Ultra HD Blu-Ray is a meme so it doesn't need to be in PS6 / Helix. Most people stream these days too. Game sizes continue to spiral out of control requiring massive Day One patches on top of discs.

I wonder if we see a successor to Blu-Ray.
>>
>>109179593
no you fuckin dumbass I'm saying a digital $1200 ps6 isn't worth it over a computer

yeah good thing storage is so cheap right

yeah that's why they had to kill it
was always coming

>litmus test for whether you fall for performative outrage
it's more a test for how poor someone is. there are a lot of people that buy used games, sell games when they're done with them, trade them with friends or even borrow them from libraries.
if someone is crying about physical media it ultimately comes from a place of poverty.

of course it will

but i can see why sony are bringing back exclusives

because if there's no disc to buy people are just gonna play it on PC the superior digital only version
>>
>>109179535
I most often use my xbox 360 if I play games.
>>
I stopped bothering with consoles after the 360 era
>beginning of unfinished games with DLC "finishing" the story
>beginning of 20GB of data and 1GB of game so you have to get the extra storage
>beginning of microtransactions
>beginning of online-required services
t. someone with a homebrewed 3DS and 50+ games he will never touch
>>

Blu ray’s successor is having every movie behind a streaming paywall. Perhaps one day they will be nice enough to let us stream high bitrate movies if we have the internet to handle it but I doubt that’s coming for a long, long time
>>

You're almost entirely right, except sony is massively predatory and will keep retail prices on games that came out over 15 years ago. This is the death nail for the sony cuck, sony is essentially closing the cage on the pay pigs. They will now be stuck with retail costs on all games, at all times, if they choose to stay on their fisher priced locked down garbage console. It's actually kind of based on sonys part, they know their nigger cattle are some of the most docile and retarded in the entire industry, which is saying a lot considering how fucking retarded the average gamer is platform wide. They know this gambit will work. No more buying used copys cheap, now you pay retail for that game that came out 6 years ago, and you say thank you and pay the tax on the retail price for the 6 year old game. Maybe in 25 years they will knock the price down 20% though

lmao

Sony Music would never stop physical. This is one of the reasons Sony Music absolutely despises Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE, the Californian branch) because they make retarded decisions like this. I think movies are safe for a while too.
