I'm still doing my absolute best to save money... and now not only am I using a used budget tablet as my main computer, but my cheap Bluetooth keyboard stopped working, so instead of buying a new one, I'm using the same model, my wife's, since she hasn't been using it, now I got a white and pink keyboard with girly stickers... but hey, it types, that's what I need.

It makes me feel like a homossexual and/or transsexual though, no hate, it's just that I'm a married straight man. Well, I'll probably have to play dress up, make up and have tea parties with dolls if I have a daughter, so I might aswell get used to putting my manliness aside from time to time.

Genuine questions
1) I love the cat
2) Is having a physical Ps2 "better" than say emulating. I.e. does having that separation and inability to say, alt-tab out of a game, have a measurable and meaningful impact when you use it? Every time i go through a pcsx2 phase i just get distracted half way through whatever I'm playing then don't touch the game again for months (at which point i feel it better to restart).
With the internet getting so shit i am considering books and Ps2 games and basically going offline, i think it would make me happier.

thanks
i'm not a purist when it comes to owning the console vs. emulating so it depends on the game, really. i've found that games i really enjoyed growing up like vice city, fur fighters, kingdom hearts just don't hold my attention like they used to but for some reason i can play time splitters 2 for hours on ps2 and i could play skate for hours on the xbox. and yes read books lol.

NTA but PS2 emulation is still iffy, so I prefer having a real PS2 on hand.
>>
>>109221577
it's really not iffy, for quite a good amount of titles it's actually better than the real thing because you can upscale the graphics quite a lot. save states, using any controller you want. i say this as someone with a fully modded ps2 fat, like as modded as it could possibly be, which i also prefer over emulating, but both are good. one is free, the other costs quite a bit of time and money.

Windows Vista has some decent blame in that. People tried running it on shit hardware and got pissed off that all the aesthetic aero shit was slowing it all down, so they had to disable most of it to make it run properly and that look got somewhat associated with being shitty and bloated as a result.

I am unsure as to what this strange contraption is involving two RJ-45 ports and cables however and whether I should remove them or plug it into another extension cord.
>>
>>109237060
From my perspective, I think it may have something to do with people's view of the future. Think of old sci-fi chrome and polished architecture. Or, how a lot of mundane aspects of reality were snapped into total convenience. It's arguably an optimistic, positive outlook on a brilliant future. One that, with the rapidly developing world of technology, we wanted to believe in and otherwise looked forward to witnessing.

In contrast, I think modern aesthetic design comes down less to optimism or pessimism, but to an indifferent, tired view. A jaded, more fatigued view of both the present and future. Pop-ups, nagging, insistent adverts, and lack of control thrown in because people are too tired and helpless to give a damn. It's the learned normal, and even if they remove most of that stuff, they're so bogged down by the excessive stimulus of modern life that a quiet, inoffensive design may be less fatiguing and preferable.

So I just remembered a slight problem rotating my desks back to being parallel to the wall. My peripherals (headphones, keyboard, mouse) are going to be too short to reach it.

Would it make sense to buy longer cables or extension adapters if possible (ignoring latency or signal degradation) or just move the case onto the floor? I've kind of appreciated having the desktop on the desk now that I'm using a be quiet case, cleaning, service, and connecting cables is convenient and good for my back too. This room gets a ton of dust.

i like having the PC on the floor. it leaves room for more shit for yer desk. the front io is in arm's length and cleaning doesn't matter.
>>
>>109243028
>>109244390
PC on floor is fine if you actually clean regularly and don't have carpeting. but even with carpeting, a 3-5 inch riser underneath the case is usually more than enough to slow dust accumulation

I decided to move it to the floor to take advantage of the cable routing, I might get another one of these desks to replace the Melltorp off the side so it matches and stacks the effect.

I will probably leave it at this for the night along with my first crude cable management effort. It's amazing what a difference even something basic as this makes after all these years. I had hoped for an adjustable height desk but it wouldn't fit.

>>109244668
My Dark Base 900 uses a different airflow scheme, so I figured it might be more resilient to dust especially given the filters. I'll probably break out a plank or something to raise it if I can't put wheels on the case, the rubber is grippy.

I think I'll be able to focus on fixing the curtains, adding a new marble texture to the sill, and more importantly figuring out how to make the new configuration less lifeless. I'll probably add some LED strips underneath for lighting and at least attach the cork board before figuring out decorations. I like things clean (since I live by the woods, bugs and dust from outdoors are an enemy to keep out) but I don't want to go fully sterile either. I have sentimentals and memories I can display.
>>
>>109244668
I left my desktop on the carpeted floor for about 3 years and it became really slow. I opened it up and all the fans were completely clogged with chunks of dust that were as big as balls of cotton and the GPU was covered in dead bugs. It ran incredibly fast after I cleaned all that up.

Get a table that you can mount monitor arms on to free up space, or drill holes for mounting your monitor arms into the top of your existing desk. Clean shit up from being thrown all over the top, and toss whatever you need quick access to in a small tub or bowl. Get your desktop off the carpet floor. Either fully clean your gross mousepad or get a new one (maybe a hard pad so you can clean it more easily). Cable manage. It's all basic shit.

Your setup isn't even 'empty', it's just cluttered and unkempt. Add some art or plants or whatever the fuck you like. It's not hard, it just takes a little thoughtfulness regarding your lifestyle.
>>
>>109248424
been thinking about getting monitor arms but I don't exactly like them ngl, Idk i feel like they aren't the safest option. my computer is on a slab of wood on top of the carpet so thats fine. and I've tried cleaning my mousepad but I feel like I'm not doing it right, I dust it down and hit it but the dust just stays ingrained. I don't ever eat food on it though so it's not that bad.

>Idk i feel like they aren't the safest option.
I've used multiple monitor arms and haven't had such an issue with stability. Just check the display weight limits and ensure you are comfortably over it. Obviously, your table/desk shouldn't be a shoddy piece of shit that wobbles either.
>I don't ever eat food on it though so it's not that bad.
Cloth mouse pads accumulate a ton of sweat, oil, skin particles, and other debris beyond food crumbs or whatever. That is what is actually making the thing visibly gross. Most people do not realize (or accept) this issue. You'll know it's especially nasty if you can graze it gently with a fingernail and see a light streak. You can't just dust it off either...you need to get in there with soap and water, scrub it out, and dry the thing thoroughly.

Frankly, I think a hard pad (such as glass) is far easier to deal with in terms of maintenance. It will be far more consistent to use too. Though, hard pads also function differently in use, so it's personal preference.
>>
>>109248919
Oh i didn't know you had to wash them, that just kinda seemed wrong in my mind for some reason... I'll try and wash it sometime this week hopefully, and I'll look into monitor arms also!

doubt I'll get a glass pad or something like that, i don't think I'll enjoy it

The memes dont end there, oh no siree, you use a PMP and a steam deck? golly! It would be better if you had simped out over a woman. Go to the dollar store and get some damn posters or something. i did use mechpwn on one of my fats i have lots of ps2s, one with open hddboot and another with a modbo. the one i used mechapwn on it burnt out the laser literally within 2 days a bunch of ps2 models have a bug in the mechacon firmware where if it crashes when reading a burnt disk the laser will get stuck at max output voltage and kill itself. mechapwn is not safe. modchips arent safe either youre supposed to install an additional chip to detect these crashes that will power off the ps2 or laser https://consolemods.org/wiki/PS2:MechaCon_Crash

i prefer modchips anyway theyre nice to install and just function smoothly
