Question, has anyone figured out a better way to get Explorer to handle HDD spin ups so that it doesnt freeze the entire explorer for few seconds when HDD is waking up? I have the File Pilot as well, which is good, but its lacking 1 key thing. Bit Locker drives support. Otherwise, I'd make it my default
I have a laptop which has only one storage. I clean installed Windows and made a Windows System Image Backup on the same drive just separate partition. (That was not so obvious, I had to play with System Protection to enable Restore points on partitions, just setting the minimum % of Space usage. It's a known bug. Otherwise System image creation failed error appears.)My question is: How do I restore Windows partition from System image backup when it's on the same physical drive? Previously I put a usb stick with bootable Windows installation, click repair, select image backup from ANOTHER drive, and FORMAT target disc. How do I restore Windows if I am unable to format target disc, because source is on the same drive? Please advise.
>>109203820uncheck the "format target disk" box when restoring, assuming it's detecting your backup, it might have it grayed out by default.
i wanna cum inside
>>109203629You can always disable the physical drive via device manager and it won't ever spin up. Only enable it again when you need it. That's obviously more useful for backup drives than something else.If it's something what you are using all the time you can always turn off the power management feature. Makes no sense to stop something what has been designed to run for tens of thousands of hours.
>>109202365What we do now that Windows doesn't have any full disk encryption anymore? Can we do real full disk encryption with LUKS?
>>109204361If you want full disk encryption you use VeraCrypt.
>>109204381VeraCrypt is not a true replacement for LUKS. VeraCrypt can't actually encrypt the entire physical disk on modern UEFI systems because it has to leave the EFI and recovery partitions completely unencrypted. It lacks any cryptographic integrity checks, meaning an attacker could potentially tamper with your encrypted data without you ever knowing, and its keyfile handling is known to be cryptographically weak.It also relies on an aging architecture inherited from TrueCrypt and forces you to use a custom bootloader that adds a noticeable delay to startup. LUKS is natively integrated directly into the Linux kernel. It encrypts the entire block device without leaving any system partitions exposed, supports modern authenticated encryption to guarantee data has not been tampered with, includes built-in header backups to protect against accidental corruption, and mounts instantly without needing any third-party bootloaders.I really hope nobody is using VeraCrypt, thinking their 100% unencrypted system is "encrypted".
now that brave dropped support for manifest v2what firefox fork is the best?i was thinking of trying waterfox
>>109204237I obviously have it as a NAS storage (but it also happens on physical hdd on my other computer as well) device which I have make use of it. Disabling HDD/NAS isnt a solution. Now I wonder if AI can debug and dissemble the executable and see if it can fix the issue or rewrite a Explorer clone

>Thumbnails for videos/WebMs>http://www.babelsoft.net/products/mediapreview.htm>https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/icaros.html>(Use only one at a time, not both)I tried using mediapreview but there are still some webms and videos that won't generate a thumbnail for some reason. I want to see if icaros will generate them. Dumb question, but is it okay to just uninstall mediapreview and then install icaros?
>>109204620Before you uninstall MediaPreview you should go into its settings and restore default thumbnail settings, then you can uninstall it. Then cleanup the thumbnail cache with Disk Cleanup, and then install and setup Icaros.

>>109202365I just finished up setting W10 IOT LTSC on my laptop and I'd like to do a full disk backup of a clean install just in case. In the past I've used something called acronis true image but that was like 7 years ago and wondering if there's something better.By full disk backup I mean I may potentially install linux on this thing down the line and I'd like to be able to do full restore from an empty disk. I remember acronis was able to do that it would restore all partitions and everything.

>>109206120docker from the top of my headgranted, you can use an older build or work around it, and that was exactly my point

>>109206301That's an interesting API, I wonder if they are doing that to try and cut Docker completely out of the loop for most user setups.Definitely a strange move to seemlessly allow a windows .exe file to silently launch and run a Linux program. >>109206313>long as it is a necesary evilIt isn't necessary

>>109210096It is not simple anymore unless you trust installing random binary blobs from russians. Just use affinity photo or photopea. Fuck adobe.

Are (You) ready for yet another two weeks of clickbait bullshit flooding the web and people being insufferably obnoxious spewing opinions about shit they don't understand?https://www.tomshardware.com/software/windows-11-identifier-used-to-track-scattered-spider-perp-after-microsoft-shared-info-with-fbi-19-year-old-us-estonian-hacker-arrested-over-alleged-ties-to-infamous-extortion-groupI can't for people smarter than me to explain to me how you cannot block or even check the Windows telemetry in any way as it's a closed source black box of evil that'll defend itself if you try to prove it's spying on you 24/7 so you just have to believe them that Windows is doxing you as you use it.I love that we allowed tech illiterate retards to be treated as gurus online.
>>109213124ill start ...im of the understanding that gdid specifically can not be blocked or changed, reinstalling will assign a new one and tools like SIDCHG claim to change it but results vary.no FUD here, actually looking for mitigations
>>109213217I believe GDID is also what HWID activation relies on. It's why when your hardware config changes you lose your HWID activation, as your GDID got regenerated due to the hardware change. The issue in this story is that this guy was already fully compromised before MS handed over the telemetry data that was only useful because the feds already seized the hardware so they could de-anonymize the telemetry data. Plus, it's very likely that if this idiot did the bare minimum to lower the amount of telemetry data sent over, it wouldn't be as useful as it was.Given how bad this guy's OPSEC was, I wouldn't be surprised if he used a legit Home/Pro license with zero hardening so he was sending over full telemetry by default. Of course, this article, nor any other won't mention such details, as that goes against the current status quo of over-exaggerating any and all negative Microsoft news as that generates clicks and people are none the wiser so they'll blindly gobble it up without asking any questions, they just get tunnel vision if they get to talk shit about Microsoft and stroke their egos over them switching to Linux already. It's really fucking tiresome.Again, Windows is not this Machiavellian black box of evil. You can verify what type of telemetry data is being sent over on a given edition of Windows with given group policy edits. But to actually do an investigation and tell people the truth is not what sells. I'm expecting Steve from Gamers Nexus to blindly regurgitate this headline while smugly saying "Microslop" and then bitching about how he can't ditch Windows in his office due to getting locked into the Adobe suite, even though PewDiePie and James Lee successfully made the switch to Linux and found working alternatives for video editing and whatnot. I hate midwitted cunts like this so goddamn much.
>>109213319Be interesting to know if he was signed into a microsoft account or just a local user account during activation, or if that effects anything?Im not bothered by MS haters esp when they hate for these types of things. opsec is a thing and threat profiling is a thing.Do your due diligence
>>109213319Enterprise/Education on a local account with AllowTelemetry and other such DWORDs set to 0 is probably better then whatever this guy was doing.
>>109213389>or if that effects anything? It affects a ton. The whole "Microsoft gave up BitLocker keys" articles that circulated not that long ago? Only happens if you use an MS account. Forced OneDrive syncing? Only on MS account. You bypass so much bullshit people claim is unavoidable if you know how to do a local account in the OOBE.>>109213410Like I said, my suspicion is that he had very very bad OPSEC to the point where he had a stock Home/Pro install with an MS account, zero hardening so full telemetry data by default. It's likely that if he used Enterprise/LTSC with a local account and basic hardening, the data MS would gather wouldn't help much. Of course none of that was seemingly mentioned in the court documents people are basing these articles on so you'll have retards running their mouth for a while now.
I wish I could disable telemetry on my work pc I'm using w11 pro there
>>109213490I wouldn't do much sensitive things on a work PC either way, it's likely that your employer is already tracking everything you do on that machine, as is common in big companies. For private things I'd use my smartphone or my laptop.
>>109213552It's like all those teens that have the school laptops that aggressively track you and treat having it in your house like a panopticon. Feel bad for the ones that can't afford to have another computer/phone.
>>109213598Yeah, I'm overly conscious of how technology works so my natural assumption is "I do not own this machine, therefore I do not trust it". Even if my machine runs Windows, I trust it as I am free to nuke Windows off of it at any time, I'm the one in control.

>>109214230developing ... local account still might send it but he offers :https://github.com/SmtimesIWndr/GDID-Disabler/blob/main/gdid-disable.ps1
>>109214322I did some tests, and on a local account, even after logging out of MS for apps like Store, it still generated the ID. After disabling all instances of CDPSvc, so the standard, User, and the extra User one generated per account, it stopped generating the ID's. Tested both on my LTSC 2024 PC and 25H2 laptop. So, a new issue, already circumvented. Also the real issue of the story was the scope of the telemetry, which again, can be proven that it's that bad only if you use the default "Full" setting.btw remember how Apple was scanning people's local files for CSAM? How it didn't get any media attention? And how MS never did the same thing but they get shat on the moment they breathe? Fun double standards.
