a decade ago (when snapchat was at peak influence), android had atrocious quality. snap on android took a low quality SCREENSHOT of what the viewfinder saw, while only iphone actually used the camera to take a real picture. basically the snap ceo hated the fragmentation and all the random janky camera APIs from each manufacturer and phone on android, and rightfully so
so besides the obvious of ios being more expensive/status symbolly (even though its actually cheaper in the long run because they get more years of updates), this was the biggest thing

Hardware has totally regressed. It peaked in 2019 when we had fullscreen and good solutions to the camera problem like underscreen cam and popout cam. Now you get a ugly hole. The apple dynamic notch at least looks decent.

Samsung is a special kind of shit. The phones are even more expensive than apple. Yet they have fucking ads. The phones are hideous too. The OS is bloated and the battery drains with the screen off.

The only reason to buy an android phone is that you can buy one for sub 300$. It was always seen as the poorfag option and I have never heard anyone say that they like using android and only heard complaints how they are junk. Companies like Samsung tried to push up the prices so that stigma would fade away but the only thing they accomplished was making phones that are more expensive than an iphone while still feeling like sub 300$ phones, the worst of both worlds. Phones are such an integral part of our lifes so spending money on a quality product (iphone) is worth it to a lot of people.
