It's a good way of storing energy, an easy way that we discovered quickly, and one which we haven't really had any reason or way to improve on.
I love boiling water.
>>109212063
We still boil water that way all the time. There are even plants of the same type as the one at Chernobyl still running today.

unlike most other planets everywhere, we happen to have a shitload of water available to boil, and boiling happens to make unsafe water safer for us to consume

why not make use of one of the most common resources we have?

You could also sterilize water with UV light, induce current in a pan to cook, transfer heat from outside to inside using a refrigerant to heat, use electric motors powered from a reversible chemical reaction in a battery to move, and let photons in sunlight knock electrons around in silicon to make electricity.
>>
>>109224186
You can get 240V in North America. Most houses have 2 phases of 120V AC wired to them. Standard circuits take one of the phases and neutral, for 120V. But you can also get special plugs wired that have both phases, neutral, and ground, for 4 pins. These are normally used for electric stoves, dryers, HVAC systems, etc., but you could get one wired, acquire a European 240V kettle, and wire a 4-pin NA plug onto it.

You just need a magnet to move through wires. In most cases, it's terribly difficult to keep a magnet moving through a linear channel, and much simpler to redirect the harnessed linear motion into a spinning thing.
My picrel is an exception, the magnet oscillates up and down here.

Almost any process that puts out a lot of energy, from burning sticks to nuclear fusion, puts out most of its energy as heat. Boiling water and then making the steam spin a turbine is one of the most efficient ways to turn heat into movement or electricity. I'm not sure if there's anything other than water that does it slightly more efficiently, but water is cheaper to get and it's safe to release excess steam into the air.

Only real exceptions are photovoltaics, betavoltaics, battery cells, internal combustion, and steam engines that power pistons instead of spinning turbines.

water boiling is the epitome of lifes work, there's no life without water, and water boiling is key.
