Is this malware? There is no information on the internet about a MPV Manager and there is no source code available. The website is also 100% made by AI
>X is better than Y and it's not even close

lol I guess the AI thought giving the author a name like Mike makes the malware look more legit. Emphasizing how this is totally not a virus and totally the real MPV is also funny.

So it is even more worthless then.

Also
>Linux packages
>Distributions usually package outdated, unmaintained, and unsupported versions of mpv. This is especially true for popular distributions like Debian and Ubuntu. It is recommended to use mpv-build or third-party packages instead. All of these packages are unofficial.
So how is this supposed to be installed then? The snaps and flatpaks are also not official so I guess you need to build this from source? Or you can run mystery box software packaged by scammers and three letter agencies I guess.

I think MPV is generally better than VLC; it's smoother and faster and I'm used to the hotkeys.
However I recently noticed that on my ancient toaster thinkpad x220 with ubuntu any hd video on mpv makes my laptop melt. 85-90 degrees with a cooling pad, while the same video on vlc keeps the temps in the 70s, also with a cooling pad. So now I use vlc because that laptop, in bed, is the only way I watch movies anymore.

How can I do deinterlacing for my .mkv DVD rips? On linux, preferably through MPV, but if I have to run it through handbrake or an ffmpeg command that's not the end of the world. I've read that QTGMC is pretty good for this, but it seems to be designed to run on something called avisynth.
>>
>>109223773
Do not touch the original files. `--deinterlace=auto` should just work, and a good quality deinterlacer (long gone are the "yadif" days, which wasn't bad anyway).
`d` is keybound by default to cycle the `deinterlace` option too.
If you're unsure, check out "${demuxer-rawvideo-fps}" and "${estimated-vf-fps}". If the second one is twice the value of the first one, then deinterlacing is on.
If the file is not tagged correctly as interlaced, `--deinterlace=yes` should work.
If you're unsure about what mpv will use by default, you can force a high quality software deinterlacer with "--lavfi-complex=[vid1] bwdif [vo]".
And finally, some old files (usually not DVD-sourced), are not only untagged as interlaced, but also use "bottom field" parity instead of the usual "top field", and for those, you can use "--lavfi-complex=[vid1] bwdif=parity=bff [vo]".
That should cover all you need to know about interlacing.
And again, DO NOT TOUCH the original files.

>I can just hit the d key
Wow thanks, guess I'm just really shit at googling things. Added the deinterlace=auto to the arguments of the application, alongside the one that enables a pseudo gui. Added --fs too.
This is basically perfect for animation that skips frames anyhow, but it's got me wondering how it works for actual 60fps interlaced video.

>DO NOT TOUCH the original files
They are 1.3GB per episode, is it not worth attempting to compress these? I tried streaming uncompressed video from PC to tablet once and it couldn't keep up, plus I only have so much drive space.
>>

>They are 1.3GB per episode, is it not worth attempting to compress these?
The archivist in me is telling you to not touch those files ;)
>I tried streaming uncompressed video from PC to tablet once and it couldn't keep up
If that's a local network, there is something wrong with your setup. And in any case, you can encode on the go for streaming purposes without touching the original files. SD content shouldn't incur that much load on your hardware encoder(s) in particular (nvenc, vaapi, ...).

>The archivist in me is telling you to not touch those files ;)
I still have all the DVDs, but I can understand the desire. Even if half of these are crusty re-encodings with visible jpeg-like compression artifacts already. I just got MakeMKV working with this DVD drive on linux (driver issue) so I'm itching to start transcribing these videos. At least the ones I care about. I've got a pair of 4TB HDDs in RAID1 that I'm backing up my PC files to, but since I'm just rsyncing deltas and not snapshots there's 3.6TB of spare room. A rough calculation suggests maybe 420GB of raw DVDs.
>encode on the go
I do have a more powerful computer now, last I tried was on a 2015 laptop, using that VLC streaming application. I hope this kind of deinterlacing can take effect before encoding.

Genuine question, why do people complain about mpv's interface being bad? It's a video player, you're supposed to watch the video, not mess around with menus or buttons. Want to pause/play a video? press space, skip a few seconds? right arrow, etc. Unless you're autistic you only have to memorize less than 10 keybinds, and most of them are already intuitive. Also, I recently installed a "better" interface and ngl, it looks nice, even though the default one never bothered me.

I didn't pay a single cent to anyone.

MPV is too satured, way too bright in scenes, halo effect even and over exposed, contrast is also wrong. Dark scenes are too dark, bright scenes are over exposed.

Also the Audio is broken on MPV. It doesn't play correct at all, and if it does it's too quiet, not enchanced, simply incorrect even if you go beyond 100% volume it's terrible.

On Potplayer + madvr (Madashi render) the cinematic experience is just superior. The audio is crisp, surround works flawlessly, you can hear every detail without having to touch the Equalizer.

I ran the side by side test again on a HDR400 144hz monitor, and MPV looks every time like a fucking cartoon. On big screens and better HDR it can't touch Potplayer + madvr at all.

So yeah the faggot who claims it's better, it is really not and probably never will be better.
>>
>>109233267
MPV is just not suited to Windows. Avoid if you're a Windows user.
Windows "support" (if one can even call it that) is scheduled to be dropped anyway.
>>
>>109233295
How can it not be suited for Windows? If it doesn't work on Windows as claimed it sure as fuck won't work on any Linux Distro.

Also another point: Memory usage. Potplayer with a 42GB REMUX uses ~170MB and MPV up to 1GB+.

>>
>>109233316
>How can it not be suited for Windows?
I don't know the actual reasons, but mpv needs to talk to the OS's display manager and display drivers. Windows is probably a mess on that front and also probably not as flexible as Linux, so they don't want to bother with it.

>If it doesn't work on Windows as claimed it sure as fuck won't work on any Linux Distro.
Anon... it's usually the other way around.

>Memory usage
That depends how much the video players are buffering for instantaneous seeking.
You can configure how many seconds of video to buffer on mpv.
>>
>>109234280
Doesn't this create a lot of false positives, making it kinda hit and miss?
>>
>>109233267
This makes no sense at all.
mpv just decodes the video as-is, unless you're messing up with filters and configs.
Are you sure you're not doing an oranges-to-apples comparison?
The output should be the same pixel by pixel.

what is really cringe is that homebrew is deprecating support for the mpv cask, so it will only be a command-line application on macos
iina is fine i guess

Yeah, I did the same. So it's not just me then. Sometimes I want to view membership videos or I get the "You need to sign in to watch this video" error so usually use cookies when I can.

Not sure why it works in the browser but not yt-dlp / Mpv though…

why are mpv fags the biggest updooters alongside their devs?
>updooted 5 minutes ago you're literally hitler if you still use the old version
>i'll make sure to break it in any way i can so you have to updoot
>if you don't use a system that supports the updooted version you'll get death threats from the cult

It's not for Windows you fucking retard.

It's opensource, simple and no bloat, but you MPV faggots are the bloat masters, even worse than VLC.

>>109240544
Who cares? VLC is bloated shit. MPV just works. If I need to use DLNA, I will just use an MPV-based media center.

When MPV is destroyed.

mpv.rocks, could have spent its time and effort improving VLC, but they are openly hostile and dividing of the community.

You just started an unwelcoming War.

In what ways is it better than VLC? I've used VLC for ages, it just works. Why should I switch?
