EV technology is making new strides every day. It's the best it's ever been. So... why the fuck aren't people using it?
>>109221007because it is expensive to switch when you already have a gas car that works
>>109221007they still cost more than comparable ICEs and take longer to refuel/charge.why would you buy an EV if you're tech-agnostic?
>>109221025People can just install a charger at home and charge overnight.
only retards buy EVs is the biggest problem with them
>>109221024yeah, the most environmentally friendly thing you can do is keep using your old car until it dies, not buy an EV with a massive CO2 footprint at production.
>>109221030and why would they do that if they could just buy an ICE and not bother with that?
>>109221039 This has been repudiated on multiple occasions and is straight up oil-cartel propaganda at this point. Even in scenarios where your local electric is generated by natural gas or coal, the power plant does so at volume of scale and efficiency far exceeding the internal combustion engine, vastly outweighing the impacts of lithium chemistry.Once renewable-generated electricity is taken into account in addition to the upstream battery developments in progress, it shifts into 'absurdly better' for the environment.
So, how are EVs losing so much value? Less moving parts should mean longer ownership.
>>109221049>environmental impacts of ICEcarbon dioxide. recaptured by green plants>environmental impacts of lithiumgiant leaching fields that poison the earth below them for centuriesI will be interested in EVs once sodium batteries become competitive
>>109221049source? last time I checked it takes like 30k miles for a new EV to have a better CO2 footprint than a new ICE.if that's the case there's no way a new EV can have a better footprint than an already existing ICE ever.
>>109221071EVs are computers on wheels. they are not going to last longer than a mechanical device
>>109221104ICEs are also computers on wheels now. At the very least, an ECU is required for the catalytic converter to function optimally.
>>109221007Much more expensive to switch than to maintain my 34mpg shitbox. Also they're overloaded with anti-features like touch screen hvac and insistent driver aids.I am lightly considering buying an e-bike/scooter for minor grocery runs, that seems like a good application of the technology that doesn't wrap it up in stupid shit.
>>109221007>reddit>saaaaar please usings the elektrik veeyikul saaar!lol
>>109221007Internal combustion engines >Last indefinitely>Run cheaper>Fillup quickerAnd even if you want to argue any of those three points>Depreciate like a rock because ICE lovers don’t even consider itBut hey, you do you. My 193000mi Acura is doing just fine without a redditor approving of it.
>>109221007>he says a quarter of a million>instead of saying 250 thousandSorry plebbitor, if you have to resort to such dishonest headlines then you have already lost.
>>109221172Fast charging is only 10 minutes now, and you can just charge overnight at home so it's never a problem, and you save a shitload of money on gas.
>>109221007People who get jobs are buying them, so at least all the immigrants are driving EVs
>>109221007rolling gas in ur mouthsorry not sorry
>>109221189Retard what do you think a quarter of a million is? You failed math school.
>>109221135at least there's more moving parts you can replace individually instead of having to hack the car if a chip fails
>>109221189based. kill anyone that says half dozen
>>109221007Cause increasing the efficiency of petrol cars by 5% has more positive environmental impact than converting 100% of all cars to electric, and not only that but we already can do that and are currently doing it.Also new cars suck dick, show me an EV with no infotainment system or AI networked cameras, just a fucking normal car whose only input controls are the pedals and wheel and I'll consider buying one.
>>109221254This but unironically. If you say one hundredth of a million, I'm gonna doubt you so hard you might spontaneously combust in glorious flames of glory.
>>109221007If you tongue-kiss my anus right now I could consider buying one...
>>109221101Also during the entire lifetime the higher weight of electric cars will release far more particles from their tires and from the roads. Those particles are mainly what's causing reduced life expectancy and quality of life from car pollution.
>>109221977Fuck yeah, that's a plus. Reduce my life expectancy so hard daddy, I want out sooner than later.
>>109221977>muh weightmeanwhile all IECs are getting heavier and heavier and every retard is driving around with SUVs
>>109222029That is a problem, it's also a non-argument. If people want larger cars because of their tastes then it's reasonable that they would want larger electric cars if they bought those, and they would weigh even more than ICE cars.
>>109221196Electricity is only cheaper because not everyone is using an EV.
>>109221007partisan politicsone side is pushing marxist tranny ideology and does not want the technologyother side is pushing oil/gas industry and does not want it
>>109221007Petrol electric engines are the future
>>109221207Quarter of a million sounds different to 250k despite being the same. Depending on how fast the 250k was done I also wouldn't care even if that meant 5 years to get to that point (((projected))) by (((experiment))). +30/-30 temperature swings over the year on a car kept outside means the battery is going to be weatherd by both the climate and charge-discharge cycles.
>>109221007>why the fuck aren't people using it?Less people own their own home so don't have a charger.
>>109221049>Claims>ProofYou have none. It's like your regurgitating speaking points from some politician.
>>109221007Electric motors are much better than internal combustion engines, but battery tech is still light years behind gasoline.
>>109221007Surprised nobody brought up safety. Every month here I hear about some car accident that killed all the occupants because they were driving around in an incendiary grenade.
I had a Nissan Leaf for about six months at the end of a lease when a coworker needed it out of his driveway or his wife was going to kill him. It worked great as an errand runner but there were plenty of use cases where it could replace a gas powered vehicle. We already had a small truck so the short comings of the Leaf didn't really matter. Now that electricity prices have shot up, probably due to data center construction in this area, the value proposition isn't there, especially for those who already have a vehicle. If I had the same opportunity for six months of free use, not sure I'd take it given how much it costs to charge now.
>>109221007I don't hate EVs per-se, but it won't stay this way.The beancounters will absolutely rape the engineers and those margins will be eaten up as soon as ICE are off the mass markets. It happened with incandescent lightbulbs,it happened with LEDbulbs (my fucking first gen LEDbulbs from 2016 haven't lost a single fucking diode yet while I have to change out my elderly neighbors LEDbulbs once a year),it happened with regular cars (my dad's stolen W124 is still driving around in poland and makes it's way here once in a while)it will happen to anything and everything,it will happen with fucking electric cars as well. Also new cars suck, I'll drive my E36 until it turns back into dirt. If they ever ban gasoline, I'll switch to moonshine. If they ban old ICE, I'll convert it to sodium electric with none of the combustibility or WEF/EU-gay shit in it: https://allaboutcookies.org/eu-mandatory-distracted-driver-system>INB4 europoorIt will happen to you too, lardburger, in fact your infrastructure bill your most winning president ever Biden greenlit is asking for the same tech. It's all WEF bullshit anyways. Also whoever designed the new captcha should be hanged.
>>109221007electricity has a substantial tax on it in the EU, plus people are too poor for a new car
>>109222186>Quarter of a million sounds different to 250k despite being the sameGuaranteed you're one of the americans that contributed to the 1/3rd pound burger failing to the quarter pound burger.
>>109222186>Quarter of a million sounds different to 250k despite being the same.to who?
>>109221007Half of the country thinks that Tesla owners are nazi's. The other half thinks that Tesla owners are gay-asses. Both sides have a point.
>>109222787>to who?mutts
>>109222793Gay nigger association of Tesla GNAT
>>109221007>Why aren't people using itLiterally only an American thing. I went to Ghana and Brazil last month and saw far more EVs than I expected. And those are relatively poor places (even if I was in the core richer parts of those places). The only place where I ever heard someone randomly shit on EVs on the street was also the US. Dunno why that happens.
>>109221046You don't necessarily have to "install" anything, you can just plug into a 120V outlet at home. As to why you'd do that, it's because the marginal costs per mile are significantly better. At least in my area, if you compare the cost of gas vs. electricity, my EV gets ~160 MPG, and this is with a decade-old car that I got for about $7k. YMMV, of course, but it's worth doing the math to see if it makes sense for your circumstances.>>109222093Electricity will always be cheaper than gasoline, because we have multiple competing options for generating it. Even if gasoline were to become cheaper than the others, we could and would be producing electricity with gas generators. An ICE gives you access to gasoline power, but not any of the other options.
>>109221172>Run cheaperDon't see how that is the case. Depending on where you live. I don't give a shit about the environment but my BYD is running cheaper than my last car. The big question will be how long it last but so far my monthly expenses are down.Plus oil prices go crazy when Jews and Arabs get angsty while energy has been stable.
EVs are a luxury status symbol.
>>109221007US grim reality: Because it costs more than gas, that's it, that's the only factor 90% of people care about. Gas went up 100% because of Trump's gay war with Iran, but Electric went up 10-20% every year for 5 years because of Trump's gay Covid panic. Without government subsidies EVs aren't gonna make it here until they let China sell $15,000 cars.
>>109221007Why the fuck would I sell my car that worked for 15 years and will work for at least 25 more? Also, Lithium is a major environmental concern - one that's far worse than the CO2 emitted by most modern ICE car engines.
Charging is still slower. That's basically the only blocker if you want to road trip in an EV. Otherwise they heem the competition at literally everything else.
>>109221034Sorry ICEssie, but EVChuds WON
>>109222954not really
>>109223029>2014 EV sells for nearly $10KThe used car market is nuts.
>>109223029This is the equivalent of buying a $100 house in Detroit.>battery's dead>replacing battery costs 4x the price of the car
>>109223015much lower mileage in cold weather
>>109221007I live in an apartment and there's zero EV charging stations near me that I know of. Buying an electric vehicle is not viable to me or to many other people in the same situation.
>>109223101keep in mind this is kangaroo dollars.>>109223116yea you will need to accept that a 10+ year old EV won't have the full range available anymore, point is that if you want an EV for typical short trips then they aren't exactly a luxury anymore, since they've been around long enough that there are cheap second hand options
>>109222939Until data centers ruin it
>>109221046Saves a lot of time stopped at fuel stations. Why bother with dirty fuel hoses and crime ridden petrol stations when you can just plug in at home?
>>109221071Less moving parts but more useless electronics with DRM. Having fewer parts is nice but having everything cost 200% more because you have to buy new certified parts is not nice.
>>109223124Even that's nowhere as big of an issue people make it out to be.Even in extreme cold only lose about 20%.And few people go on long road trips in the winter so unless your daily commute is more than 400 km you should be able to find an EV that van cover that.
>>109222806>not making it 2/4I have zero sympathy.
>>109221071>how are EVs losing so much value? They're not.I drove a classic Hyundai Ioniq for 5 years and sold it for more than I originally bought it for.Although that was really due to subsidies.EV's not losing enough money is actually a big problem gatekeeping a lot of ordinary people from buying one.
>>109222806>he fell for the memeYou got bamboozled, faggot. In the '80s people weren't living in misery and poverty. Who the fuck would leave McDee for some nobrand noname dickheads, even if they were a little cheaper?

>>109223409actually maybe not that much cheaper, the cheapest options on this site are cars that are fucked in some way, as in you need to fix some critical before you can use it fucked
>>109221007Because the EV technology in the US is 10 years behind due to the US motor industry blocking it all in order to compete.

>>109223513Weird how nobody on the left shilling global warmthink ever answers this question. Just an endless assumption that everyone can buy a house to install their gayass home charger in.
>>109223513you can just plug it into any regular wall outlet. for lighter use just charging overnight at a slow rate is enough. the special chargers are just for faster charging, it's not a requirement
>>109223513You dont have a gas station at your home either, unless you're oil baron
