free android is so close to dead, tightening of play integrity makes any custom rom not pass the tests without insane level of tinkering with untrustworthy curry software that makes it work maybe for a week. If an app you strongly rely on for example for banking requires any level of play integrity then you're fucked completely already and it will get even worse in the future.
>>
You've had years to buy a Pine phone

You could have bought a Firefox phone, Meego, WebOS, Windows Phone, Symbian or many others, but you decided to make your bed.
>>
>>109234982
Ive gone this long without any mobile banking apps, just use my pc when i need to access my bank acct. And if it really came down to it, id just buy the cheapest droid and use that for banking. I wouldnt even buy carrier service for it, just tether from my actual phone
>>
>>109235053
And you've had 30 years to contribute to the GIMP instead of paying Adobe.
>>
>>109235054
It all depends on the bank and country, in some countries having the app is REALLY useful.
>>
>>109235053
>You've had years to purchase underpowered useless toy phones with zero support or cohesive application ecosystem
Wow, you're so right. How could I have been so foolish?
>>
>>109235112
I dont wanna visit china or any chinked out cunts that require a bank app just to simply live anyway, so im good

>>109235112
in my experience there's either "neobanks" that require a phone app, or boomer banks where you can use the website for almost anything, except you still need the app for certain things, sometimes even to log into the website, lmao
>>
>>109232965
how does this work? If I turn Wifi off the app fails to run. Does it phone home to Google each time you start it up?
>>
>>109240204
It has a local cache of package names that it blocks. If the same package is available on Google Play then it will link you to it. You need to turn off Google Play Protect or uninstall/disable Google Play Store if you don't want that.
>>
>>109240293
>disable Play Protect
>keep getting reminded to enable it with dark patterns when I update f-droid apps

The end goal of capitalism is to have monopolies, putting a hand on the market to prevent them is socialism, get your ideas right.
>>
>>109240311
Monopoly is a natural and desirable winning condition for a particular business in a free market. Capitalism itself does not have an "end goal", as it is an abstract model of a system, rather than a self serving mechanism. Regulation is not socialism.
>>
>>109232965
Free as in libre != Google Play Services.

OP is so stupid. I have never seen that message on my Replicant or even on LineageOS that doesn't have gapps or microg.

We're not living in Capitalism, we're living in Corporatism + Cronyism
>>
>>109240419
NTA but reaching your goal gets exponentially easier the more power you have. So megacorporations have a better chance of becoming gigacorporations than any mom & pop store. Monopolies only have downsides for the consumer so preventing them at all cost is great for the consumer, bad for the company. A free market that allows monopolies to form is a terrible idea. Anyone cheering for a free market is a person who can't hide their nose behind a lamp post.
>>
>>109241211
Agreed. The cheerleaders you mention tend to masturbate over slogans rather than any kind of pragmatic reasoning.

Doesn't Googie ban your account if you use Aurora?
>>
>>109233810
I managed to just download fdroid off brave and installed newpipe this morning on my new s26 ultra

Indian thread
>>
>>109242079
What account?
>>
>>109242129
I mean you can *technically* use Aurora for apks, but there are certain ones (paid for) that Aurora doesn't work unless you login to Google.

That's where Google starts to freak out.
>>
>>109242133
I only log into my google account in a private tab ("in cog nito")
>>
>>109242133
You're paying for apps?
>>

>Monopolies only have downsides
I respectfully disagree. A vertically integrated monopoly that provides a good product at a low price is not inherently bad. This is what Standard Oil did, petroleum products were expensive in the 1890s and Standard Oil's vertical integration drove prices down incredibly low. Its competitors could not compete with the prices, but the product was perfectly cromulent, and cheap energy is a huge reason the US industry was so far ahead of the rest of the world. Can a monopoly enshittify the product because of their market share? Absolutely, in which case there is an opportunity for any entrepreneur that can provide an unshittified product which appeals to discerning consumers. The problem is we don't have discerning consumers. We live in a world full of goycattle that are corpo bootlicking cultists who will continue to take it up the ass after enshittificuation and never seek an alternative. This much should be obvious to posters here given the state of technology.

>china derangement syndrome out of nowhere

>there is an opportunity for any entrepreneur that can provide an unshittified product
The monopoly throws its weight around to hoard the raw materials, or lobbies for onerous regulation that disproportionately harms smaller players, or pumps out enough advertising that no consumer ever hears of the new option, or buys out the competitor outright. The period of good service and low prices only needs to last until there's no competition anymore, then the screws start to tighten.
>>
>>109242413
>lobbies for onerous regulation
This plus IP law are like 90% of the problem, and are not a function of the economic arrangement.
>>
>>109242133
15 years of using android and I haven't paid anything for apps.
>>
>>109242187
Unfortunately some apps I use have to be paid for, yes.
