you literally don't need anything more than linux mint
correct, but I want more than linux mint.
>>109244045>LinuxKek
I'm sticking with Ubuntu until Mint switches to Wayland
I have arrived at a similar conclusion
i'm sticking with kali until windows switches to unix
i use fedora, it's ok
>>109244045Just like my toothpaste, it has to be mint.

>>109244045'need'? nobut plasma mogs cinnamon and id rather have newer stuff from fedora than old af stuff from mint (although you can fix it with containers/nix/flatpaks/brew)
>>109244045I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

>>109244045No Civil 3D or Revit, so I cannot do my job on it. I am planning on switching my desktop to Linux and only retaining a Windows laptop for work, though.

>>109244045In my experience, Mint is great on older machines. For new machines, it's less than pleasant.Built a new machine last year, put Mint on it. Mint didn't load proper drivers for GPU card, and it was a bitch trying to get them in myself. Gave Ubuntu a try, and it just fucxking installed the right drivers. So I went with Ubuntu.Of course, recently updated to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, and it fucked my AI setup, and most gnome apps seem to run even worse (open a new text editor instance and the cursor spins and spins in "busy" for 30 fucking seconds; what the fuck is taking a fucking text editor so fucking long to load, did they rewrite it in rust or something???). so giving mint another try just might be worth the effort.

>>109246091Based, debian used to ship a gnu/kfreebsd variant, and they have an experimental gnu/hurd system as well.
>>109244045Nobody with a semi-modern machine should be using mint. Cinnamon is still stuck on X11 and is missing basic features.>no HDR>no multi display VRR>no mixed refresh rates without stuttering>no true fractional scaling

>>109247327neo seem nice but should it cost like triple is laptop market changed that much
>>109246589mint is bloated you need a fast computer to run itI guess the statement that it's good for old computers stems from the fact it doesn't work on new computers?
>>109246856Ubuntu is better than mint, yes>>109247288Making shit up isn't an argument.
>>109244045Fallacious statement. Who determines what is more and what is less in this scenario? Is "more" another distribution? Is "more" installing packages that aren't included in the base install? Or is it installing packages that aren't in the mint repos? I could start with mint and make it identical to any other distro with the only difference being the package manager. So what is more? And by that metric, would that make other distros "less", and thus okay to install by your logic because it's less than mint?
