its a bit impossible to hook up 8x 3.5 inch HDDs onto modern desktop computerssimilarly 16x 2,5" are impossible (altough its easy to fit them space wise)whats gonna happen with 16x 2.5" then, you ask?well they need 16x 1amps from 5v line, thats 80 ampsguess what is the maximum on modern PSUs on 5 volt line? its 100 wattsthe rest, 20 watts which you still should have, certainly goes to other parts in your comptuer and its not even enough, realistically a computer would take 120 watts from 5v line if you have 16x HDD, RAID card (pci-e 16x slot) raid card thoughever is used in "just a bunch of drives" mode because nobody uses hardware raid, however this wont make the HDDs use any less of juiceokay so wahts the problem with 8x 3.5 then?3.5 requires 1 amps from 5v to run, but it goes higher than that, occasionally, on write operations, reading takes less, also to spin upp a drive you need 2 amps from 5v (2.5 drive can be spinned with 1A or even less because its a smaller spinning disc and requires less of motor power)

>>109244621>well they need 16x 1amps from 5v line,no they dontlook up Staggered Spinup (SSU)you cocksucking nigger cattle retard
>>109245128you are absolutely retarded, of course they require 1A if the drive says it needs 1A (on the sticker)that one is their normal operating amps (power up takes more than the rated amount but only for one second)this only stops if they go into a power saving modethat said, there are some drives that go as low as 0.6A but they have smaller storage space
>>109245068why buy separate NAS if you can turn a desktop PC into NAS
