>Does /g/ use RSS?
extensively..
I used to have all YT feeds in here too, but now I'm using freetube for that (FT uses rss too if you have more than 100 'subscriptions')
It's not just tech news, also local newspapers, cartoons and shit.. oglaf, arcaderage, xkdc, smbc
>>

PLEASE dont tell me you are paying for an RSS reader
>>
>>109247580
Just my friends xitter accounts and a couple sports journalists
>>
>>109247648
it's only 15$ a year.. I've ran freshrss self hosted before but I can't be bothered for that price
>>
>>109247669
Holy crap dude RSS reader are literally free why
>>
>>109247676
'local' rss readers are.. it's an online service providing me a web interface, and an easy interface to configure an app
I'm using theoldreader btw if you want to know..
I know I can use free ones but if I want a web interface and service I need to run freshrss
>>
>>109247689
No you dont. Plenty have webuis dude. Do some basic research. You are giving a company money for literally no reason
>>
>>109247580
yes
too many
>>
>>109247694
>Do some basic research
I did, freshrss provides what I want.. but I need to run it on my own hardware, always on, and setup tailscale to access it from anywhere. And I have to maintain it, secure it etc.
And that is not worth 15$ for me..
>>
>>109247769
Ok
>>
>>109247769
all my freshrss instance has needed was an update every now and then, not paying 15 bucks for the privilege, but you do you

The problem with RSS readers and shit is that they SUCK, they always just become insane amounts of clutter once you start getting larger and larger amounts of feeds. I decided tonight to vibe code a Yahoo/MSN/Google News style homefeed. I'm gonna source everything from RSS/ATOM/Telegram/Nitter/Webscraping and have AI merge the various sources together for trending events and shit. The truth is that I don't need 8 different outlet's articles for an event, i just need one news article and the AI can rewrite it in the style I prefer, eliminating stupid woke shit or climate change alarmist bullshit.

When I'm done i'll have it injesting shit from Twitter and Telegram feeds for events like the Russia-Ukraine or Iran War into daily recaps so i'm not wasting my time parsing through NAFO troon psychosis or mudslime seethe propaganda, just simplified daily recaps "Drone crashed into oil refinery at durka durka land."

I'm only beginning to understand the full capabilities of the thing I'm building out, I just realized I can have it track shit like torrents or weather events and have it populate news articles. I bet there is even API endpoints on youtube that I could access that would let me force youtube to give me an AI synopsis of various videos and bundle them into recap articles as well.

A bunch of Telegram channels, gamersnexus reviews, BBC, NPR and half a dozen X journos (Lookner), a dozen X artists, techcrunch and alternativeto news

What you're "building" already exists in like 10 different variations
>>
>>109247580
I use it for Youtube and Twitch "subscriptions" without need for the account.

I'm in the process of vibecoding my RSS feed as well, I had the same issue with feed becoming pile of crap you have to manually go thru and look for stuff you'd like.

My idea is that each feed have "AI processing" toggle, I use it for news feeds, when its enabled it will process each entry, add tags and write a summary of the article, you also can like/dislike each article and add optional comment on your rating, your rating will get processed and AI will store your profile of interests and run this profile against each news article to figure out if you'd like it or not.
This is still wip but I can already tell how amazing it is to see news that are genuinely of your interest at the top of the feed

Another issue I always had is lack of rendering control, so I got this template engine and can render rss items however I want

>>109248112
vibecoding is so cheap I'd rather build something that works exactly like I want instead of adapting to someone-else's workflow
>10 different variations
kind of proofs that everyone have their own version of how shit should work, I prefer mine

>>109247580
Any public torrent sites that have RSS feed? Most torrent sites I use don't seem to have it now
>>
>>109247580
No, I don't. What for? I don't want to regularly read feeds of any kind.
>>
Half tech and half chud stuff. Counter-currents is bit annoying, they have too many articles and clutter the feed.

I’m not him, but not only am I paying for Feedbin, but I’m also paying for Unread
NetNewsWire is very good and free though
If you’re not an Apple guy you could do way worse than to vibe-code a clone of it for your chosen platform

I've hit the point where I have a initial roughed out front end ready, displaying dummy data just to get a jist of how it looks and feels, now I'm vibe coding the backend atm. I'm pretty sure I have the design documented pretty decently, the front end communicates via api with the backend, the backend just talks to the AI via ollama API so each module should be simple enough to maintain and is portable so it can be run across multiple servers if that is desired. The various topic groupings like Business, Tech and Culture will be user defined and the sources for each defined as well.

The inspiration is Yahoo's layout so I'll have cards for weather, stock tickers for BTC, Dow, Nasdaq, SP500 and get back to webscraping gasbuddy's site for my local gas station's price.

My RSS feed is aggregated by my nextcloud instance hosted by Hetzner. Random corpos see their IP address and there is no way to link me to it unless they demand it from hetzner itself

The frontend/articles are just a form so any sort of data can be presented in it, the goal is to be a cross between the US and Japanese version of Yahoo. The goal is to basically seal myself off from the rest of the internet and everything will be pumped through my RSS/Atom/API/Webscraping tools. All I have to do is make another project, lets say find a 4chan general I want to follow, consume the json and then provide a means to be acquired by the backend and then delegate the source to provide the AI with instructions to summarize the thread into bullet points and topics of discussion, or do the same via using Nitter's RSS feature to consume an entire timeline and summarize it into news articles.

The design is simple but very dynamic once I fully deploy it.

I use newsboat and have keybinds set to open up txitter hoes pics with feh and another set to open up an invidious instance with mpv, allowing me to watch my favorite youtube channels.
I also use FreshRSS for Linux news.

Doesn't Freetube constantly break? Even more so than stuff like NewPipe/PipePipe?
>>
>>109251863
NTA
It isn't as reliable as the *pipes and you have to wait for the fiix. Usually the problem is fetching feeds or playing videos. For feeds you can change to RSS in the settings, this just doesn't show video duration in thumbnail. There is a "Open in external player" button on both thumbnails and video"page" itself, I've set it to mpv.

It's not the best experience, but its better than the website imho.

I haven't in 20 years. Mostly because Firefox removed the Live Bookmark (and while yes, you can get an extension for it it's not the same) and a lot of the time RSS was slower than checking the websites themselves.

Plus a lot of sites seemed to drop or hide RSS completely when Firefox removed said bookmark function, so the whole appeal died pretty fast.

i use elfeed but the new maintainer seems to be fucking with it a little too much.

I miss fever
it had this concept where some feeds are garbage you don't care to read but are useful as signal for big stories
so you subscribe to them and they go in a bucket you never look at but they increase the "heat" on stuff you do read the more they are posted
>>
>>109248112
What are the top three that do what he describes?

I bet you pay for things like netflix, probably use 'readcomics online', stream audio, get upset you have to plug devices into each other to transfer data instead of "just using wifi, bro"....

I do. It's nice to get your feeds in Thunderbird, just like you would get an email.
