to my knowledge, the g5 quad (with two dual-core processors) is the only macintosh that ever came with water cooling from the factory. and, they're notoriously unreliable for leaking fluids/ruining components nowadays. was that just how things were in ~2005? im sure the tech was in its infancy still, but idk if it was just a particularly bad example from its era.

>>109251431Hey young anon.My memory is a bit blurred here but I'm pretty sure Apple palmed a lot of stuff out to Foxconn, couple this with Apple not really having a history of High Performance Computing experience. They had XServe but not really competing in the HPC space. My take? They were just trying to extend the life of PowerPC while still trying to line up the Intel production chain in the background. Water cooling bought time and let them compete a little longer against wintel builds with creative benchmark marketing and skewing numbers. AltiVec and PowerPC 970 was really a lobottomised version of the true IBM PowerPC that was never really designed for the consumer market.
shit delete this op
