What's the least retarded DE?

EXWM because if Emacs crashes everything goes down with it, which saves time because you don’t have a good reason to use a computer outside of Emacs anyway.

QT-based desktops (Plasma or lxqt)
Ideally Plasma for a modern PC because it has good wayland support, but lxqt is great for lightweight systems.

Why do you even ask, if you rule out literally the best option? It's GNOME, KDE Plasma is okay-ish. Avoid the rest and wait till COSMIC is stable.

KDE and GNOME are the only ones with decent filepickers out of the box, and GNOME is retarded, so KDE kind of wins by default. They're also the only desktops with decent Wayland support, which is an absolute must for multi-monitor setups.

>>109256234
That said, this is honestly a pretty compelling option these days. Standalone Wayland window managers like niri and shells like DMS/noctalia are getting quite impressive.

Whats the use case when plasma is just straight up better?
What does lxqt do better than plasma? Or what lxqt do better than plasma?
>>

>Or what lxqt do better than plasma?
I meant to ask what does lxqt do that plasma doesnt. Instead of asking the same thing twice

>what does lxqt do that plasma doesn't
it doesn't rely on javascript and end up using tonnes of ram.
Both gnome and plasma do that sadly, they're not better than windows 11's reactjs nonesense.

plasma but only because you don't have a choice, it's the least bad option. everything has a flaw you can't ignore.

cosmic

it has the benefit of not using the bloated corpse that is plasmashell

Gnome. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you can be at peace. Yes the devs are retarded sometimes (often), but Gnome has by far the best workflow. The only other alternative is constructing your own using window managers + misc parts. X11 WM / Wayland Compositor + Quickshell is a pretty good solution nowadays.
>>
>>109256115
I still think the root cause is due to it being written in c++ which is not designed to make GUIs

use case for a de?

i hate that this is the right answer but yeah pretty much

KDE, except it crashes sometimes
It's easy if you configure the correct keybinds
I was used to hyprland, so I borrowed the keybinds from there
>>
>>109257022
I literally said it in my message if you look closely enough. Plasma is a heavy feature-complete desktop, and lxqt is a minimal one that doesn't use much memory. Their only real similarity is that they both use QT.
lxqt is to Plasma what lxde is to Gnome
>>
your favorite flavor of wm and download whatever software you need. DEs are for legitimate retards.

Explain in 15 words or less why, after installing a new OS, I should proceed to spend 12 hours tinkering with openbox from 2002 or whatever instead of just selecting "Plasma" or "Xfce"
>>
>>109256077
xfce or kde. both popular, have simple settings menus and quite usable by default and are very extendable if needed, it all depends on your needs, if you want many monitors then probably kde due to wayland, if you want lightweight then xfce, if you want to play your vidya then probably kde wins from what i've heard. Personally i use KDE and it's completely stable somehow even if i'm on a rolling distro.

DEs are for women and children. Time to ascend anon.
