The "fact" that a number pad is faster for working with numbers is a myth unless your normal qwerty typing speed is like 30 wpm.You can only use ONE hand to type on the numpad, but you use both hands to use the top number row. It's also way more natural to touch-type numbers from the home row the same way you type letters, instead of moving your whole hand over. The numpad should have never existed because it duplicates keys that already exist. 1 glyph = 1 buttonIf you disagree you are a boomer.

>>109278195I rarely use numbers while writing, so I never got used to the top roll numbers, not to mention that thr keys usef for calculation are spread to be convenient for writing, not for calculation so it's inconvenient. That being said, I'm still not going to get a numpad, that shit is ugly

However I certainly agree that not using PgDn/PgUp shows that you are do nothing useful on the computer... or doing something useful inefficiently! Reading an article line by line with the arrow keys/hjkl is the fast track to retaining nothing.

>>109277946>who benefitsAnyone with a brain. Even if you don't type numbers regularly, numpad is excellent for storing 10+ hotkeys that are easy to use. You can quickly and reliably position your right hand in the same exact place on the numpad thanks to its shape, which makes those keybinds incredibly easy to use. Your thumb finds the left edge of the big Num0 button and this way you're going to have 100% confidence that you'll press the right hotkey on the numpad every single time.
>>109277946As a man with broad shoulders, a keyboard without numpad makes me feel like pic related.
you should be asking what's the point of separate arrow, pgup/dn,home,end,insert,del keys when the numpad provides all that plus easy math operations.
I use the fuck out of it for CAD. I find it much easier and more efficient to take my right hand off the mouse and enter measurements with the numpad vs. moving my left hand away from tab and the various hotkeys, especially because there are a lot of situations where I have to repeatedly hit a hotkey and then enter a number over and over again.
what went wrong?
>>109277952so much this. everyone aspires to be a bean counter, it's the pinnacle of careers. rich people just sit pushing buttons on the numpad all day
how do I get numbers?
