Urbit Runtime

Urbit is a personal server stack built from scratch. This repository contains Urbit's runtime environment, the lowest layer of the Urbit stack, which includes the Nock virtual machine, I/O drivers, event log, and snapshotting system.

I wouldn't trust that.
>>
>>109278525
No problem. Nock is cool. Also you can get a free Planet from https://tlon.io. Previously they were on an invite-basis or you had to buy them.

I'm not watching any of that crap. It's your job to market this software to me. Describe how I could benefit for dedicating a server for it?

No. Now fuck off.

That's the neat part you don't! Which is why no one uses this shit outside of a few genuine cult tier obsessive retards that think it'll take off any minute now. All you have to know about the project is the founder and no I am not talking about his politics. The guy is a AAA grade silicon valley OG techno cultist.

Your post was schizo shit so now I want to use it more.

With the open Internet becoming more qnd5more censored and taken over by institutions, it seems solutions lioe this will be natural next step for individuals to experience the old Internet, for example hosting something like 4chan

>>
>>109278619
if you were to remove this Urbit thing from existence what sector would suffer exactly?
>>
>>109280186
You're gonna hate using it then because if you think what I said was schizo shit already just wait till you find out what Urbit really is and how to use it.
>>
>>109280366
Planets are a scarce resource so it's intentionally inconveniencing you. It's also making you try the app to boost its stats on the app stores and gather feedback.
>>
>>109279690
What, you mean you want a use case for the feudal system of Galaxy owners who have downline Stars nobles who have downline Planets knights who have downline Moons plebs who have downline Comet peasants? What more do you need to know?
>>
>>109280856
You are clueless.
TL;DR: it's more efficient to have root nodes establish peering and bootstrap the process.

I've tried a few times to understand what the point of Urbit is but I always forget. Projects like this really need to work on getting away for the SV-speak where they won't tell you what the thing does and just say plainly.
>>
>>109281502
the schizo responsible for it is obsessed with living in feudalism and made urbit as a way to create "digital feudalism". also money laundering from peter thiel

Ok let me get that straight;

In the first 2 min of the video, you describe, in an obscure fashion, OS bootstraping.
The only relevant information is that the codebase is small (compare to what; we dont know what urbit is yet).

After adding jargon, like "planet" or "other language name", you describe that your server is capable of doing update.

Then you explain that there can only be only 4B urbit server. (Because scarcity is sexy I guess...)

The final part of the video is trying to explain what semi decentralised means to the urbit, making vague claims about privacy without providing any proofs.

"Leave the internet behind ( with our propriety server )".

...
>>
>>109282896
Why are you even on /g/
You are genuinely technologically illiterate.
And retarded.
>>
>>109282896
Also you can't even do the bare minimum effort of reading the docs.
No, it's not just "OS bootstrapping".
> It's sometimes described as an "operating function": the current state of your urbit is computed by running its history through one function, called Nock.
If you put in the effort of reading more about it, you'll realize how much work had to be done to make this happen and how ingenious it is.
How is the server proprietary? It's all open source and with open APIs.
It's a P2P, encrypted network. That's how you get your privacy. Yes, it's not running anything extra like I2P or Tor does.
All you're doing is trivializing a bunch of this shit because you won't bother to look more into it.
I don't know what this accomplishes other than make everyone who criticizes this project look like a buffoon.
