there was a much better solution i saw demonstrated on X, where you press an ultrasound under your jaw and 'mouth' your words, i.e. you speak the same as you normally would, but without passing air through your mouth to actually excite the vocal cords.

allegedly worked quite reliably - the utlrasound imaging data was sufficient to reconstruct the words being 'spoken'.
