why would someone spend tons of money for a laptop with soldered ram and ssd, with 2 usb c ports and a locked os where lots of sw is missing or costs and even some browser extensions cost? Unless you are a gen z or foid tech illiterate who buys it for social status, why would one lock themselves in such a consumerist walled garden?
>>109284587apple literally has its own employees say good things online, its part of orientationt. worked at the apple campus in austin for a few months in 2016
ragebait is the current meta, you arent supposed to take anything posted here seriously, it's all just low effort trolling.
So... you guys spend all your time buying linux laptops and switching out the drives on them?
>>109284632no we buy windows ones, replace it with windows iot ltsc, and upgrade ram and ssd when/if needed
>>109284587>sw is missing or costs and even some browser extensions costwhat flavor of ESL uses "cost" like this?
>>109284587one of the senior mods here is an apple employee and lets the marketing department shit up the board for free
>>109284587They’re doing it to piss you, specifically you, off. Steve Jobs is paying them to follow you around and piss you off.
The user experience on macbooks in my experience is really good. Excellent screen, excellent keyboard, excellent trackpad, excellent battery life, excellent single thread performance, no fucking candy crush or BS ads in the start menu, etc.. Actually using and interacting with the machine feels good. I get why people like them.

>>109284922To me, Unix means portability and modularity. Does macOS have any of this?
>>109284587because windows isn't an option, linux (deaktop) wastes my time, and soldered ssd/ram isn't an issue if I spec high enough to begin with
>>109284922windows has winget and chocolatey, so it's not like you can't do that on windows. What macOS has over windows is not being total dogshit
i got a old ass mac laptop was comfy when i bought yet still is comfy when i rund windows
>>109284587>why would someone spend tons of money forAlready outed yourself as poor. Will not continue reading.
>>109284587>why would someone spend tons of money for a laptop with soldered ram and ssdIt sucks yeah but it's a trade-off. >with 2 usb c portsYou can just use dongles/docks. Wifi and bluetooth work really well in Macs so you don't really need that many USB cables. In my Macbook Pro I don't even use a dock because all I need is power and USB-C -> DP for my external monitor. Keyboard, mouse are plugged into the monitor's own dock. Internet is wireless and audio is BT.>and a locked os where lots of sw is missing or costs and even some browser extensions cost?I haven't felt really that MacOS is locked down. You can still install anything you want from outside the store. You just need to go to settings and authorize non notarized apps. I still think it's sucks, but it's a tradeoff I guess. >Unless you are a gen z or foid tech illiterate who buys it for social statusI have to admit the "social status" is kinda part of having Apple stuff, because they are genuinely good products and it's nice to be seen using nice things. Do you only dress with clothes from Walmart? Or do you invest on having nice clothes to go out? Is your car a $2000 2003 Camry or do you drive a nicer, newer car? It's the same thing.>why would one lock themselves in such a consumerist walled garden? You're not "locking yourself" in. You're allowed to use anything else. And it's not really consumerist, nobody is forcing you to buy homepods, iPads, etc etc, all the other useless things Apple sells. It's like being in a country club. There's a higher standard but also there are rules, you can leave whenever you want and go drink at the boat ramp, nobody is forcing you to drink at the club, but you know out there there are hicks that might stab you, and there's no AC.
Buy an old one and you'll understand. All your criticisms are valid (except the cost part, I have never spent a penny in the app store and th only software I ever buy are audio plugins for bleep bloop music). But what you're missing is th rock solid engineering feel and the high quality components - screen, trackpad etc.t. I hated macs until I decided to buy an old imac and put linux on it, turns out I was perfectly happy with Macos so latr I grabbed an old macbook pro too. Will never go back, though I would also be unlikely to purchase new.
>>109284587Normies don't give a shit about your standards if it work for them it works for them. People doing real work use what works for them, and if MacOS works then that's what they'll use.
>>109284651>upgrade ram and ssd when/if neededby that time your laptop is going to be outdated it's better to buy a faster modern laptop instead wasting money on "upgrading" an outdated slow e-waste one
>>109285760>outdatedyeah as soon as a computer is a year old it becomes worthless and doesnt work anymore especially with storage in a world where 256gb isnt even the defacto standard. I had more space than that in my pc in two thousand fucking seven
>>109284587I was always under the impression that outside of the apple brand, casuals bought them for their exclusive apps like garageband and whatever the art/photography ones are. the tech in them is garbage compared to a windows laptop at a given price point so it must be for exclusive software or the social aspect
>>109286127The M chips really changed things, so that's probably why there's been so much more uptake. I was given a MacBook Pro and iPad for my job and the way it "just works" with the ecosystem and all that shit is why businesses seem to love it. It also handles some programs better than Windows can, not a massive feat I know but it makes a difference when the only choices in the normie corporate world are Windows or Mac.
>>109286193>implying anyone shilling macs on here has a jobthey are easy to use, true

>>109284587>why do people keep shilling macs?>why do people keep shilling phone they're using?>why do people keep shilling keyboards, IEMs, other gear they enjoy using?because they're using it and it makes them happy
