This. I have never had a glasses free 3D monitor but I have a 3DS and having 3D that just works is really nice. The resolution on it is not nice, however.

I'm guessing the lenticular stuff discussed here is similar, and the screen just has some lens over it that shows one eye even numbered columns and the other odd columns, and the software takes these side by side images and interleaves them.
I've also heard some talk of making your own 3D monitor by printing black/white vertical stripes on a large transparency sheet at exactly the width of pixels on your monitor, and then aligning it and taping it to the front of the monitor. It works but suffers from the same issue that original 3DS systems have where there's a small sweet spot where the 3D works great, and outside of that it just looks like 2 images on top of each other. Then again sitting in a sweet spot in front of a monitor is less annoying than when you're holding the screen in your hands.
