If your BIOS is set to show the POST screen but you get a black screen until the OS loads, scale back your CPU overclock or undervolt.
Low-frequency voltage instability can cause the Graphics Output Protocol (GOP) handshake to fail during early boot, the usual stress tests won't catch this.
Once the OS starts loading, its graphics driver re-initializes the PCIe link, bringing the display back.

An unstable memory overclock (specifically memory controller desync) can also cause this behavior.

from the last thread, people complaining/waning about the Nitro+ 9070xt connector, I looked into it out of curiosity
It seems that the solution is to use the 12v cable inlcuded on the PSU, and not the one in the card, since its not divided, and that basically fixes any possible issues, so far

IF, im wrong please tell me why, for future reference, as I said im curious
>>
>>109290187
If you're considering a 9070 XT, I'd get the Red Devil over the Nitro+ because it spares you that power connector bullshit.
Build quality is top tier, Gamers Nexus Steve wanted PowerColor to set a more aggressive default fan curve because it
Red Devil's card length (352 mm with bracket) could cause case fitment issues.
These guys both limit their gaming GPU warranties to two years, btw.

>But Red Devil costs $850
You're past the point of financial responsibility if you're considering the Nitro+.

>>109290187
It's always best practice to use the cables that came with your PSU instead of third party alternatives.

But even if you use genuine first party cables you still need to ensure they are totally fully plugged in just the slightest sag will cause issues
>>
>>109290236
>You're past the point of financial responsibility if you're considering the Nitro+.
its red devil is 40-50% more expensive than the Nitro+, at least here, if even available
>>
>>109290236
>because it
*because it was running rather quietly & left plenty of boost clock headroom @ stock settings.
XFX Quicksilver or PowerColor Hellhound are more reasonably priced 9070 XT that I would consider buying.
>>
Keep using Windows 10 with ESU or upgrade to W11?
>>
>>109290187
You'd kinda an idiot in the first place if you get a 9070XT, desu.

It's like $800, can only really run old games well and there's nothing new out right now that's even worth playing.
You should just get a last gen card and use that and wait for AMD/Nvidia to release something actually worth buying once games worth playing are out.

It's like you're buying a new GPU for what? Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remaster?
>>
>>109290257
IDK where you're from, but the Mercury OC @ $760 is the one to get in the US.

The cables that come with the GPU aren’t third party. If AMD can’t include cables that won’t start a house fire then trusting any one of a dozen PSU companies is also out of the question. The problem is with the card and the connector, not random party designations of the cables.

It's about your risk tolerance.
There should be lower risk of the power connector causing issues if you pair it with a good PSU and set it all up properly (on both ends of the power cable).
If the Nitro+ is sold at a good deal, it's something to consider.
Undervolting the GPU also lowers the risk of the connector melting because the GPU needs less power and draws less current through the power cable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naBqsSfGX3A

You can set a 280~300W power limit and retain most of the stock performance with a proper undervolt + OC.

If I have a top tier X370 chipset motherboard, flash the BIOS, and just slam in a 5800X3D 10th edition, would I suffer any major performance loss? I currently have an R7-1800X. Same with my cooler. It's a Be Quiet Shadow Rock 3 single tower rated for 150w tdp if i'm not mistaken. That should be enough for a bone stock clocked newer CPU right? I know the platform has pcie 3.0 instead of 4.0 or 5.0 but I don't think in real world use that's a huge drop even I'm upgrading to a 16GB 9060 XT.

I game at 1440p and intend to get another 2 1080p side monitors. Motherboard is an Asus Crosshair ROG Hero Wi-Fi. Pic related.

>ASRock AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT (challenger)

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dC2ZQy
the rest of the stuff

any suggestions would be appreciated
>>
>>109290879
well, nitro+ and the prime are the premium models out of those, nitro+ has the nvidia connector
how much more expensive is the mercury oc or the red devil? Id get the mercury oc if the case was big enough and the price not too high
>>
>>109290908
>mercury oc
jumps in prize, and import only
>red devil same and only available on import
I did find the "reaper" at the same prize as the Nitro+
>>
>>109289699
The best part about this case is the 180 exhaust fan, I've long suspected that a measly 140 fan is insufficient for exhaust when you've got 5+ intake.
>>
>>109291482
Maybe, but air is still going to find its way out of the case either way in a 5 intake setup.
>>
>>109291380
Reaper is the budget brand for power color I don't recommend it as it's pretty loud and people have reported coil whine. Out of your list the best is the pulse imo follows by the nitro if you're willing to go 12v.
>>
>>109291514
My tard thinking is, the faster I can get the hot air out the faster I can get cool air in and the faster I can feed my components cooler air and keep them lower temp.
>>
>>109289904
No thanks I'll be buying my 192CU 10090XTX to pair with my 24 core 10950X3D2 next year.
>>

I'd get the prime out of those then
>>
Swapping my PSU out for a new one tomorrow and I'm hoping I don't have to remove all the other components in order to do it. My PC case encloses the PSU for some reason so I can't just unplug leads + pull the old PSU out + put the new PSU in + connect leads again. Probably will be a total ballache but oh well. Anyway thanks for reading my blog.

If only it had a metal side panel, wheels or the option to install office chair casters, more USB sockets in the front I/O panel and could take a ALF3 420 rad in top like my superior ProArt PA602. But it's probably cheaper without wood and Asus tax.
>>
>>109291482
If you have a radiator in top with 3x120mm or even 3x140mm fans you don't need more than a 140 in the rear. What you don't want in a case is negative pressure.

Nitro+ is worth buying if the price difference isn't that big from the ASUS Prime or the Sapphire Pulse.
You're going to want to undervolt the Prime or the Pulse anyway, they might run a bit loud to your liking at stock settings.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP0axVHdP-U

You might as well get the Nitro+ if you're confident about setting it up properly (300W power limit, undervolt + OC)..
It's important to leave some slack at both ends of the 12V-2x6 cable, do not bend the cable tightly right at the connector.

I find it hilarious that people are afraid of the 12v-2x6 connector when the GPU doesn't even come close to 500w. The only small issue I see with the Nitro+ is that you have to awkwardly bend the cable sidewards but there seems to be enough room for this to not be a problem.

Basically a perfect gb203, one off from being put into the higher level workstation cards. Unlike the 5070ti which significantly flawed. Same with the 5090 basically being a trash die that didn't make it into the workstation cards.

My 5080 is great and runs at basically room temperature and 40% power even when gaming. Sure i could crank up the frames past 60 but why even bother when I can cruise at 38 degrees and pull 130w on a hot summer's day.

Why is 990 pro ssd recommended for windows? Can I not use Linux on it? I already bought a 4tb one a couple months ago when it was cheaper

Also I have a 9800x3d and looking for a motherboard, I'd like at least 4nvme slots and as much sata as possible and a real debug display but not pay insane pricing. Would love the features of Asrock x870e nova WiFi, is the burning thing still an issue? Can I safely get this? The other board I can get is an MSI B850MPower M-ATX but it only has 2 sata ports... But i have 8000mhz ddr5 on hand and this board is specifically for mem OC. Last consideration is I would like an Arctic Liquid freezer cooler and the smallest case that seems to fit that is a Coolermastee MasterFrame 400 which is almost ATX sized anyway.

At this point I don't really want to go AM5 yet until the memory shortage gets sorted in half a decade or so, so I'm wondering if upgrading to a 5700x3D/RX9070 (not XT) for around 1k USD is worth it at this time.

I hope the schizo shit about "class of gpu" ended already

The names for the gpus are just quick marketing term to tell the audience xx90 is best, xx80 2nd best, xx50 is low end. It conveys info quickly, thats why amd switched their naming to imitate nvidia with 9070, its a boon for the consumer.

After ampere gen nvidia made the 90 card have much bigger die because they figured people would buy a 2k € gpu just for the fun of it. The relative amount of cores between 90 and 80 card in the previous gen with different sized die's has nothing to do with the new gen. Thats why 5080 is 50% better than 3090.

So in short its a talking point for low iq tards.

For amd upscaling and rt defined the entire gen since they were so bad before 9070 launched.

Sapphire is good with warranty but they took 6 weeks to fulfill mine. I like the nitro+ But I'd avoid anything with the 12v high failure connector so I avoided that.

From your list I'd get the pulse as the noise normalised temps are slightly better than the prime but it is the worst performer.

Powercolor hellhound cost me €550 has dual bios and uses PTM7950 and I'd personally recommend that one, the red devil has better cooling but its too large

Also worth noting sapphire seem to come with 2x HDMI and 2x dp but power color GPUs have 3xdp and 1x hdmi

E-cores don't share resources with the P-cores (unlike SMT threads)
you should always configure your OS to prefer P-cores on a desktop, there is no slowdown until you've exhausted your P-cores

Hello,
last year (or 2024?) I bought myself a new PC after 10+ years and I was too greedy and bought a shitty motherboard that doesn't even have USB-C and now I also got a new case and realized that motherboard doesn't even support the USB-C connector from the new case.
I am just some stupid normie doing casual programming, no gaming, nothing fancy. But sometimes USB-C would be neat. I need more ports. So I might want to get a new budget motherboard. I found this: MSI PRO B850-S
Is this okay for 116€?
hmm the scores look kinda bad, but I have no idea about hardware really

When usage is low, you can just have shit running on E-cores for lower power draw / less heat. And when you have high load, you can still run background tasks on E-cores while the P-cores are slammed, since you have more cores. Which Ryzens have 18 or 24 cores in total?

I'm personally gonna be pretty happy about having E-cores on my upcoming server build. They should do the trick when the server is at low loads, decreasing the amount of power I need to run it 24/7, and when there's a high load, the big increase in total amount of cores means that my other services still have room to run.

those 2 nodes would have extremely different design rules and would require a complete reimplementation and create the lithography masks for that shrunk die, both of which are probitively expensive for a minor die shrink. if they had to do that, it'd make more sense to just implement a new uarch on the new node.
what intel should have really done is to use lga1700 as the base for alderlake until arrowlake instead of moving to lga1851 after 2 generations.

there's a certain point where heat doesn't leave the die fast enough which leads to massive hotspots.
on my 5090, the delta edge/hotspot temps start from 12C at 560-640W to 16C at 680W to 20C at 720W, upwards to >30C at 800w
250W on the 5070 is probably similar to running 700W on a 5090 based on the delta of about 18C
>9070xt never gets hotspots like those
you probably can't compare across vendors since the number of sensors, update frequency of sensors etc. could vary a lot

It would kind of be cool if motherboard manufacturers started putting ads that popped up in your operating system. Maybe they could look at your hardware specifications and possibly recommend good upgrades or alert you when sales are going on.
>>
>>109296942
If you're planning to use an AIO, Meshify 3's top panel is limited to 280mm radiators.
You're realistically limited to 280mm AIOs or you must get 240mm options over 360mm.

>You can set a 360mm radiator to the front panel
You'll lose the good airflow characteristics of this case by doing this.
This also restricts the GPU clearance.

make sure the case has slots and the GPU holder works depending on how low your motherboards PCIe slots are. On my HAVN HS 420 I couldn't use the bottom PCIe slots cause there are no openings since my motherboard has them lower. The GPU holder barely works with my GPU cause of this.

Asus already does this with armoury crate. If you have it enabled in your BIOS it will install malware on your next OS load hiddenly.
>>
>>109297170
Their higher end boards now have driver hub instead of armoury crate and the last time I had this it asked me instead of straight up installing something. Maybe older or cheaper boards still shove armoury crate in your face.

Last year my brother-in-law ended up getting a pre-built that had Armoury Crate installed and asked me to remove it. Removing Armoury Crate actually caused Windows to blue screen. You have a front panel IO connector that supports USBC, its just using the older form factor (it's the plug at the bottom of your mobo). The higher end Mobo's should have both headers for maximum compatibility.
You can buy an adapter on aliexpress for like $2.
It's also $2 on amazon + $5 shipping, which would ship much faster and you could return it maybe.
But your shitty mobo only supports 5Gbps, and the b850 mobo supports 10Gbps (I think), but it has a 20Gbp usb-c connector on the back, so you should only use the back usb-c ports for ssd's (But 40Gbps usb4 connectors exist on higher end mobo's).
You need a better mobo anyways if you have a higher end CPU (a CPU stronger than a 7600 NON X), since you might get throttled by the vrm (unlikely for gaming however, more for CPU intense tasks that push it to 100% on all cores).
It's technically possible for you to attempt to cool the VRM's (the black chips around the cpu) with a DIY heatsink + laying the motherboard flat because there is nothing to secure it, but the vrm chips are placed around capacitors so it's extra annoying since you can't use a single heatsink. On aliexpress/amazon you can buy a bag of 1x1cm tiny heatsinks for like $10 (maybe it might have an adhesive that might hold, but I don't trust it). But honestly I would want a big heatsink, but it's impossible without pulling out power tools due the the capacitor locations.
