That's probably the easier route, alternative would be lighter weight with some alpine setup or heavier with a different host. If it works how you have it now no heason to change until you hit a pottleneck or issue.

You can probably setup the LXCs to handle it the same way, but personally I like having all the containers in a single host to manage. Looks cleaner and less fiddling in the prox menus where niche issues may be harder to troubleshoot.

Why is the home server community, and especially the zfs community, full of fat autistic elitist neckbeards?

I remember going on the TrueNAS forums a few years back, asking about the viability of running raidz1 on a 4x12TB vdev/pool.
Had about 5-6 people telling me I must clearly not care about my data, and if I was serious about protecting my data I should be running mirroring. Then dismissed me as a lost cause who will definitely lose data because I wasn't enthusiastic about the idea of burning half my available storage on redundancy in a fucking homeserver.
One of the moderators ended up PMing me and apologizing for their spergy behavior. I'm still curious as to what compels these demented freaks to act like this. It's like if you don't have triple PSU redundancy, slog redundancy with at least 3 intel optanes, l2arc redundancy, and run only mirrored vdevs, then you CLEARLY must hate your data.

There is indeed a big hole in that market at the moment, supply ran out before a true successor came out, so you either get lucky and find a used one for cheap or hope Intel puts out something similar with their new Series 3 cpus, but ddr5 will still fuck you over on that one. To my recipe-anon test guy, I have some notes.

I tried to give Mealie a good try, but honestly it was not my favorite. The system wants to rely very heavily on AI for the work, and I didn't want to setup a local model to handle that. Because of all that, it was really finicky to get going. I had to manual insert a ton of stuff that was just stupid shit like "salt" and "pepper" because by default it only had "semen multiplying mega salt (TM)" or "pure cracka blacka pepper" bullshit names for special types for lots of basic ingredients.
That was annoying enough, but I could get past it with enough time. I really didn't like having to do that on mobile, so it was a ritual of going to my desktop, finding the recipe again, and re-inserting it to my database.
My wife also couldn't be bothered with it, and she did appreciate the "how I cooked it last" feature but otherwise she would rather just write it down and then take a picture of the notes to put on my nextcloud instead. (It actually has a recipe module looks like, but have not tried it yet.)

If you got a chance to try the other system, did you like it at all?

Genuinely never understood why pc case producers didn't go for formats that are compatible with rack sizes, the height (width in rack) isn't even something problematic for pc cases, actually it fits nicely. The width (height in a rack) is rather the problem, 4U is too cramped and 5U takes too much space in a rack. What you are hoping to find is kinda not really there, you either got a select few tradional rack cases you can convert into towers or niche cases that fit into racks. The Grandia line from Silverstone had a few cases that could do both if i remember correctly.

Anyways, a friend is uses two Fractal North's (not the XL) for his gaming pc and his work pc in his rack, you need to take of the feets off though and be okay with them taking 5U height. Oh and of course you'll need rails for them since they dont have rack ears, but otherwise they look pretty slick in the rack if you like the unconventional look.

I have a 4TB NVMe drive in my server. I use it to store my Immich, Paperless data, local ollama models, and will probably start storing code projects from my desktop soon.

The problem is... it's formatted as xfs.
This is a case where I think a copy-on-write filesystem makes sense, but I didn't think I needed it at the time as it was a single-drive system.

What filesystem makes the most sense here, zfs or btrfs? Keep in mind it's single-drive so no self-healing.

Anyone got any tips for turning a stateless service that uses localStorage into a stateful one?
I think it should be possible to have a proxy that catches the services, makes its own localStorage requests, and then serves the result of that to whoever has the authentication for it. It sort of looks like Rammerhead does this, but the description of it is pretty sparse.

There's a service I use (llama.cpp's webui, the one built into llama-server) and I like it more than the alternatives, but it is stateless and stores all of the settings and conversations in the browser's localStorage. That has some privacy advantages in some cases (though not this case), but it has a few major disadvantages, the main one being I am not able to view and continue conversations I start on my computer on my phone and vice versa.
If those calls to localStorage where intercepted by a proxy on the server, it would make the service stateful, and resolve the thing I dislike most about it.

The main appeal of nextcloud was replicating the google workspace. A critical component of this is office integration. Nextcloud's "Community Server" app is still broken and always has been, the OnlyOffice Document Server container is broken for me, so that's a no-no. Nextcloud's own "Nextcloud Office" app doesn't work either. I've been running Nextcloud for years and for some reason all these Office integrations always have issues.
Aside from that, having a web login with MFA is nice. Everything else like Calendar, Contacts, can easily be handled by client machines own' software, and make more sense that way than having Nextcloud be a monolithic provider for all that shit. Paperless completely outclasses Nextcloud for archiving, and Immich completely outclasses Nextcloud for photo storage and backups.
Nextcloud is memeware.

I used a few but the only one I recommend is "nowinstock"(.net). there were three drops when I was watching and this one was the only one that actually gave me enough time to check out on the third try. it was sold out after finished putting in my info to check out. I clone Windows PC's before I wipe them. I then use my proxmox with clonezilla to resurrect them if I need to pull a file I missed or copy a configuration/driver. super light weight cold storage and spin up is fast and easy. remote into them either using the proxmox gui or sunshine/moonlight

otherwise the shear ease of backups/restores/clones when dealing with vm's is incredible. vm network isolation is also way easier for various services. honestly if you can't comprehend the power of proxmox I think you haven't looked into it deep enough
