You would do well to cherry pick your programs. Discord you can run in the browser. You can uninstall edge and copilot. You can do a lot to get you ram utilization down. Steam is gonna take up what it takes up. On my tower it's 1.4gib. nothing you can do about that, but your other programs and windows / Alienware / dell oem bloat you most certainly can. Optimize your system.

You don't understand, I have plenty of RAM leftover even using Edge and Telegram, etc. I did remove all the oem bloat because I thought it was causing a game to crash and it was using an obscene amount of memory but not providing any benefit to me.
Optimizing for minimal memory usage is retarded in 2026. I had my fill of it back when my rig only had 512 MB RAM and I was quite good at it (fully riced desktop with riced /g/ using 54 MB of RAM related)

Regardless, I don't think it's useless to minimize your system footprint. Just because you have the space doesn't mean you need to fill it. That's how your garage ends up full of useless shit you won't get rid of because you might need it some day. I'm all for " that could be useful one day" things, but not 20gib of ram worth of background programs. That is absurd.

It's not about raw speed. It's about usecase. My i7-8700 and my 1070 dual fan + quadro p620 + 32gb of ddr4 2733 is not "fast" but it runs tarkov fantastically, runs mw2 09 fantastically, runs all my indie games nicely. My pentium 5405u runs all my indie games, even hyper light drifter at 40 some odd fps. Not everything is about raw power.

I'm constantly bamboozled by how snappy my 5600X feels overall, it can easily handle everything I throw at it (coding, browsers, selenium, VMs, dockers, what have you) it's like a constant feeling even though I know there are CPUs orders of magnitude faster

swap is an overflow, when your ram gets full thats where the excess goes
zram puts this overflow inside the ram itself. the router only has a 16MB "hard drive" so it would not fit a regular swap file/partition

So compression permits the system to use ram for "zram", ram inside ram.
>>

yeah but it also uses your cpu to compress that ram which modern cpus can do without a loss in performance. it also keeps your system responsive when you run out of ram which is nice. also easier on the ssd ofc.

absolutely none of that sounds interesting to me, and while I am glad stylized computers exist, they wrap 1200 watts of power in about 20 lbs of plastic and use the cheapest components. Your cpu is choking and your gpu isn't doing much better. There are tests that show that just by taking the goddamn side off it performs better. I get that many people can't afford a p3 or p4 case, but you can afford a better case that allows for better airflow. I get that most won't spend $750 on just the case, but come on, you can afford $75 for a proper case, $85 for a better 360 aio cooler and that power supply sitting in your closet will power it just fine, my suggestion is the venerable MSI Pro z790 for the motherboard. No LEDs if you hate them, if you like lights, the z790 gaming pro. Come on you know you want to do this, you've been planning on it for a while and the girl coming into your life here in a few months will cost you a TON of money. Do it before you get her pregnant brother. I get it, she's fucking hot and she LOVES you, a rare find my friend. You can lock it down and ask her to marry you, she will never cheat on you despite being that fucking gorgeous, she only has eyes for you.

thats fine, just don't cry when it dies. I hate dell so much it's insane. next time go with ibuypower or starforge. I hate dell so much it's insane. Just know that Delilah loves you brother. You are going to name your AI that by the way, after her. Let us know when you get it up and running. I will subscribe to it.

Haha, I had a synology before but was becoming too old and slow.
Now have this one and before 1 year on unraid but was not that stable with file transfers. Now for 7 months or so on Truenas and very stable and fast. Just a learning curve setting it up with Truenas.

I didn't update the bios.
The hdd's ssd, nvme and ram I put in all worked out of the box. 2,5 gb network port also.
Have no issues with it.

Updated (more like downgraded) the NAS
For some reason Jenkins was unable to build my camwhore recorder bot unlike any other docker host, tried everything including wiping docker's cache. Seems that something's going on with that i7-6700 because swapping with a shitty Pentium G4560 solves the problem. Anyways not that it matters a lot

Also there's a missing 16TB array that is currently being checked
