mpv ffmpeg yt-dlp
guys i just made downloading video streams, editing them via the command line and watching them on a particular video player my entire personality. how fucked am i?
>>109323838Are you trolling outside of /b/?
0.41.0 sometimes freezes itself and at times, the whole system if I trigger some uosc function or randomly during playback using a script to change the refresh rate. There must be a bug in whatever handles the script calls which got fixed because it went away after building mpv from source. Any idea which commit that was? I don't want to bisect this shit
I had to completely move from profile=gpu-hq because otherwise mpv freezes my computer entirely when I exit mpv. Shameful.
>>109323768I use all of these on a daily basis.
>>109324928>>109325160compile mpv from last committhank me later
Smplayer is kino
Did any big changes happen from 2024 to now? I'm still using profile=high-quality and artcnn since then and i haven't noticed anything different

>>109326581i think there is no "open sourcing my shit" in the changelog
>>109326598I'm rolling out an invite-only open source beta. Access requires ID verification. The roll-out is multi-staged for security reasons. Only Indian IDs supported for now.
Rust rewrite when
>>109326806yt-dlp rewrite in rust makes sense
Why does nvdec fail with gpu-next but works fine with gpu? It's only on an 8k 60fps video and sw decoding drops loads of frames.
>>109326806>>109326806Multimedia is dead. I had a "media player in Rust" in the backlog of things I will probably never get to do. But that's not even there anymore. The space to watch is Rust-native tensor libraries (e.g. burn, tract, and to a lesser extent HF's CUDA-only candle), as they are expanding their feature sets and improving their ONNX compatibility in their way to maturity, where they can hopefully eventually compete with GGML in cleaning up what py shitter distribute, and giving it to the masses in practical usable form. The pinnacle of the multimedia scene, ffmpeg, is now just a bunch of kids (including the nu-mpv contingent), slopping neurodivergents (congratulations on the free Anthropic credits btw), and some old heads who want to cash out. They think anyone gives a fuck about an LGPL CBR-only AAC encoder in 2026, while much more relevant stuff is perma-ignored.

>>109326581Tried ikamp, there's a stutter when minimizing the window on Windows and why can't it handle opus, m4a? You can just have ffmpeg decode everything.
>>109327020>I had a "media player in Rust" in the backlog of things I will probably never get to do.You can't. No one can. The time for writing a media player from scratch has passed, there won't be another one.
>>109323838Nice anonHow do you use ffmpeg to edit videos?
>>109326999RTFM
wm4 could be in this very thread...
>>109326999gpu-next is broken and was made default so people beta test for free. Change to vo=gpu for better performance and stability.
>>109325464I doubt that would do anything since it's a kernel issue not an issue specifically with mpv.https://lwn.net/Articles/1081243/mpv can just very reliably reproduce the issue when using hardware decoding.
>>109327476How does this ffmpeg log relate to gpu-next? Please explain, don't use many tokens for output.
>>109323768is there a .deb for the file? I don't want to use the pypi version for obvious reasons. and I can't add the apt repo so I am stuck. Any ideas? Thanks.
>>109325807The new experimental artcnn shaders are cool if your GPU can handle them
>>109326581My wife chino is so cute.
>>109327355if it works with gpu and doesn't with gpu-next then the issue is clearly how gpu-next handles things.

I'm trying to find the best settings for anime screenshots in mpv, but PNGs and JPEGs look much darker while JXLs look way too overexposed. What gives?
>>109332964check if those screenshots have icc profile information in them and whether your viewer ignores it when it shouldn't.
>>109333002I think you're right. I sent the files to my Mac and the JXLs seem to be 1:1 in terms of colors (played the anime on the Mac as well) while the JPEGs and PNGs remain too dark. I only care about JXL, so it's fine. I'm on Hyprland and both mpv and Gwenview display the JXLs a tad too overexposed for some reason.

>>109333706Image viewers are all over the place with color representation in general not just JXL mpv screenshots. The most accurate are mpv itself and XnView MP. I've yet to test Gnome Loupe since they integrated the format deeper into their desktop, it may handle it better than everyone else or fail the same way, we'll see.

are there any good scripts for clipping the last 1-2 minutes of a livestream? dump cache doesn't seem to work any more on streams.
>>109327020I'll have you know that "Prominent FFmpeg developer Niklas Haas has extended the FFmpeg libswscale to make use of AVX-512's Vector Permute Byte VPERMB instructions to help with more efficient video scaling and pixel format conversion."So now, thanks to haasn's "hand-tuning", you can watch your memory bus speed limitation even harder while low CPU load is doing super-optimized AVX-512.APOLOGIZE.
>>109333587FFTMPEG
>>109336370this is good news but not many yet have avx-512
>>109336750gpu decoding is still faster though
>>109337234(software) pixel format conversion was fast enough already to the point where you are literally limited by memory speed, not CPU. so you wouldn't even get higher throughput with this "optimization".and the fact that the internet gantry didn't clock yet that ffmpeg devs embrace "LLM assistance" to the maximum, adds to the comedy.
