here's my experience with FOSS (FreeCAD)
>encounter a software-breaking bug that I had to report to github page in the first day of use by just using it according to manual
>the whole toolbox in one of the workspaces disappeared and doesn't want to show up again, and nobody on subreddit, discord or official forum know how to get it back
>had to fix it myself but now every time I start FreeCAD I have to manually turn on visibility for EVERY toolbar
>can't make chamfers or fillets to the edge of the face (you have to leave 0,01mm offset)
>crashes and dies on any feature propagation for any vertices that are not a chain of straight lines
>cannot do fillets more complex than edges of a cube (shits itself and dies on cylinders)
>comparing to SOLIDWORKS every action is multiplied by 3, example: you want to do [thing] in SOLIDWORKS? Here's a button for it. You want to do [thing] in FreeCAD? Open 3 different menus, then choose option from several cascaded dropdown menus that open a half-functional sidebar where you have to do the [thing] by manually pressing a sequence of several buttons 3 times

FOSS is not free, you pay with your blood.

who the fuck uses freecad when blender exists? why are you so retarded?

like I hate Linux as much as you do, but blender doesn't have these issues, you should try that instead of being an assblasted faggot.

Stopped reading right there.
Why would you even compare freeware tool with a proprietary software developed for decades at this point (owned by Dassault for fuck sake)? Your thread is so inane that it should be deleted.
>>
>>109326640
man, if there is a sotfware that has impresed me on how much has improved the ui and work usability for it complexity is freecad. and they are working hard on that
when the fuck are you talking about?
>cannot do fillets more complex than edges of a cube (shits itself and dies on cylinders)
that is an opencascade limitation, not really freecad, the last version improved that a ton, should be in the next freecad release
>>
The thing about free software like freeCAD, blender and libreoffice is that you pay with your time and productivity.
>>
>>109326640
The counterpoint to this is KiCAD which is now the all around best option until you're laying out giant mixed signal boards or high speed stuff and need altium's features at which point you're probably working for a company which is paying for your license anyways.

Virtually everything just werks it's mostly idiot proofed it's not a laggy RAM hogging mess and the past few years of major updates have added a ton of functionality

CAD software is just cursed. There was a thread on /diy/ early this year where the conclusion was all CAD software is dogshit and your only option is to choose the least terrible one for your application
>>
>>109331519
Still better than solidworks' support forum which you can't even read threads on without logging into your account. Youtube indians with pirated copies unironically are more helpful than the official forums

I have yet to find a part that I can't model using solvespace. It can do parametric parts, assemblies, and linkages. Old school, no-frills software that does precisely what it needs to and nothing more.
Apparently it has a web version, not sure how well it works but it appears to have all the same controls

bait or clueless?
>>
>>109331519
I can forgive technical limitations of free software, but why every single FOSS has the most atrocious unusable interface imaginable? it's like they compete with each other who will make the most retarded UX possible

freecad is in the stage of kicad when it got the cern patronage. its getting a ton of advancements, improving finally the iu and usability and using buget to actually have developers fixing shit
but it is also way more complex and generalistic than kicad, so the future looks bright, but it may be slower than kicad, it may not
>>
>>109331932
cad is instrinsecally dificult to make a good interface, but in the case of freecad, the model is the catia one, many different engineering tools in one itnerface, the work is absurdly dificult. not even the paid ones have good interface
