You can now emulate Windows for Itanium processors on two different emulators. One's a Ski fork, the other's a QEMU fork, all thanks to vibe coders, and recent LLM and frontier AI autism. Itaniumchads... are we back? Thoughts on the Itanic renaissance?
This /g/ thread regurgitated from: osnews.
>>109327843>You can now emulate Windows for Itanium processors on two different emulators. Why would I need to do that? The only OS worth emulating is Windows 98 SE on 86box
>>109327843The funniest part: the Itanic versions of Windows were never complete operating systems. There are tons of parts missing which never got ported successfully. The exactly one (1) time I interacted with an Itanic running Windows, the experience reminded me of OS/2 for PowerPC.

>In 1993 HP held an internal competition to design the best (simulated) microarchitectures of a RISC and an EPIC type, led by Jerry Huck and Rajiv Gupta respectively. The EPIC team won, with over double the simulated performance of the RISC competitor.MFW the jeet that might've pushed HP towards going forward with VLIW->EPIC {Itanium} probably lied

>>109328035>he doesn't know Itanium emulation was considered straight-up impossible for over a decade>snailcats swore IA-64 was too cursed to emulate and would never work properly>two working emulators drop thanks to vibe coders and LLMs>"hurr durr how is this usefu?l"the absolute state of utilitycucks
>>109328182except there's no reason at all to emulate itanium
>>10932790186box is bad. It's too accurate. Also patched 9x works with even modern CPUs. Translating GPU calls with softgpu gives better performance.
>>109328182Why the hell would Itanic be impossible to emulate?I can emulate a fucking AMD64 on a VIC-20, it's just that it would take hours and three floppy disks to run a modern strlen() implementation on it.
>>109327843Is there even any software for it?

>>109328265if your motherboard has PS/2 ports you can just boot dos directly
>>109330253This. And if your firmware doesn't include a CSM for emulating BIOS functions that DOS needs and booting the old MBR bootcode way, you can download CSMWrap from https://github.com/FlyGoat/CSMWrap. It's SeaBIOS compiled as an EFI executable.Maybe if you modify a DOS boot disk to load USBDOS (https://github.com/crazii/USBDDOS) you can even install and run DOS without a PS/2 port.
>>109327843I guess this is good for any physical machine on it's last legs needing to be virtualized, probably not all there yet, but it's a start.
