My CS degree is literally WORTHLESS. There's no point in pretending. Of course I needed it to get my AI datacenter job. So basically I paid 20k for that alone. I paid 20k as an entry fee for employment.

Every software engineer is currently IN DENIAL they all think they are that programmer from ID with the inverse square root algo. Or they are delusional. AI will destroy the field.
>>
yeah

but not for the reason you think
>>
the secret is, CS degree was always a meme.
Even pre-ai, some people couldn't code for shit with it, while others got a well paid job without it just fine
>>
All degrees are worthless since modern higher education is nothing more than a degree mill. All a degree proves is that you can show up and do what you're told like every other idiot who gets one.

I have a CS degree too and I feel you, but honestly? If CS degree is worthless than pretty much any other degree is worthless too. If new models can work complex software with hundreds of thousands loc, it can do pretty much any intellectual job. Economics? AI can do it. Engineering? AI can do it. Law? LMAO yeah, AI can do it. But I don't think all jobs will be gone, though. We'll use AI to build complex software that tech illiterate people couldn't build on their own.
>>
>programmer from ID
the age of retards going to IT companies wanting to work 9-5 without being interested in IT is OVER, it's been over for a while even before AI, but now it's *OVER* OVER
there are no jobs where you can press some buttons and fuck off back home at 5
unless you are interested in IT and keep up with the news and try new things you won't have a career
the same thing will apply to entry level accountants and everyone else that can't tell if AI is bullshitting them or not because they don't know the subject matter AI is attempting to reasoni about
>>
>>109337903
what are people in CS degree programs even thinking right now? I couldn't imagine unironically entering as a CS major this fall, the field is so uncertain right now. Agents have gone from curiosities to taking over the industry in the span of like 6 months at the end of 2025. 4 years is a long time.
>>
>>109337994
>100k loc
if it's well architected code seperated into many files and easily extendable and searchable, then yes. But like i vibecoded a quick prototype for my job in one html and when it hit 3k lines the best models completely shit themselves trying to do small changes. Either didn't do change at all or something else fell apart.
ai sucks at reading ai vibe code ironically.

So you do need to be a good software engineer to use these tools properly.
Same with other fields probably.

I'm currently in one but I'm planning to do a Masters degree in cyber security hoping that it won't be replaced as much

I used to be a bit optimistic a few months back. I thought that yeah of course, just another tool... right?
Even before AI entry-level CS jobs were scarce, with this they were blown into oblivion.

Anyways, I'm too invested in this shit now. What the fuck am I supposed to do anyways? Switch to electrical engineering? As if any other field had it any easier regarding job market.
Maybe the the final red-pill is a blue-collar job. It just might be the only place not yet tainted.

Or maybe we should just man up and get a fucking IT job like everyone else seems to be doing so easily.
>>
>>109337994
AI cannot do shit in engineering.
It can't even create a proper FEM model, like AI isn't even a tool for helping engineers. That's how bad it is.

What’s with you faggots and biofuel? You know that could extend to you too for not being better than AI?

That's what a degree is. And many degrees cost even more.

>>109339040
Actually AI progress is stagnant in engineering. Still on 90s Level. Almost like LLM isn't a silver bullet.

Looks like "AI" is still just a token guesser.

>AI will destroy the field.
Yeah, as in skill loss and stagnation.

only engineering and medical need to have formal degrees.

Everything else is guild work.

Dope way to put it.

Im graduating master's next year. Maybe there are still jobs to be had in my eastern euro country? we are known to be 10 years behind afterall. Though it's probably just cope.

When most of a SWE’s time consists of
>identify previously-solved problem
>apply known solution

a token predictor is just fine. But yeah the current architecture will have a hard time doing neurosurgery, or even CS research.
>>
>>109337994
As people said AI will remain shit in engineering so long as it can’t do 3D reasoning properly. When you ask it to make small game for you it will give you building with roofs upside down. For law it hallucinates to much and makes up facts that can’t be easily found out unlike code that when broken just won’t compile. Economics has no way of proving if something is right or wrong because unlike regular science you can’t do experiments with controlled variables, hence why libertarian and communist economists are both equally correct.
>>
>>109339976
and yet it still sucks at this. Problem solving usually involves decisions and context from real life that is not obvious from code alone.
>>
>>109338049
I just vibe coded a tracker/synthesizer. It's 3k lines of zig and free non-expert deepseek fully understands it. Though, it was built iteratively in such a way to make it easily extensible. It keeps not passing the allocator to the arguments of function calls that require it, though, and other weird thing like that. It kept trying to use ArrayList().init instead of ArrayList().initCapacity, and use stuff from the old I/O implementation.

Idk anon, I used it to migrate my entire project from jdbc to quarkus while knowing nothing about enterprise java yet it just werks and has been in prod for months now

>I used it to migrate my entire project from jdbc to quarkus

Kek. Do you even know what jdbc and quarkus are? These are different things, and they are not mutually exclusive.

But how can you support a project if you simply don't know how it works? Until the first incident?
