I was also wondering why there isn't much synergy between Sony Electronics & Sony Interactive Entertainment.
I think there's more non-gaming TV snobs who are willing to pay more for Bravia TVs vs. gamers who buy high-end TVs.
Gamers seem to be more price-sensitive, you see people recommending LG 42" C- series TVs for value OLED gaming.

There is literally zero benefit to 4k if you have to make the game look like complete fucking shit to hit playable framerates. 4k will NEVER be anything but a trash meme until tech advances enough to not have to make the worst possible sacrifices. Just about any card can do 1440p just fine without having to shut off settings and make everything look like a console title.

HUB confirms 14th gen with DDR4 XMP is on par with the 5800X3D
(contradicting their earlier tests where they put it on par with non-X3D zen 3)

what will /pcbg/ do with this information? (nothing, no one cares, you have a bigger e-peen if the box says X3D)

5800x3d was competing against 12th and 13th gen
both of those were dumpster fires at the time
one needed a new os install and the other degraded
you could also slot the cpu in any am4 board at the time and get those gains instead of having to buy a new 200+ board just to run intels latest garbage
the 5800x3d still mogs
it runs cooler
uses less power
is much simpler
doesn't need a special snow flake os and motherboard
you may now cope, seethe and dilate estrogen trannies

Should I buy the Gigabyte X870M mobo or should I wait for the next gen releases that will come presumably shortly after the consumer Zen6 CPUs? What's the probability that we're going to see new mATX X-series boards?
Maybe the X970 (or whatever its name is going to be) wont even have any significant improvements over X870 and I'm wasting time missing good deals.
>>
>>109347526
>Maybe the X970 (or whatever its name is going to be) wont even have any significant improvements over X870
That's my guess as well wrt features.
But the 900 chipset AM5 boards might have safer power delivery designs.
You know something is up when AMD is sending out replacement CPUs to affected users, & it's killing both Zen 4 and 5 CPUs (non-X3D chips as well).

Might be because Fractal no longer ships all of the HDD trays with their cases (since they presume most people will not be using all of them). My old Define R4 came with all of the HDD trays that would fit in it (8) back in the day.

So you need to buy the case + as many of these as you need.

X870 refresh boards have already maxed out what am5 has to offer in pcie lane usage
I can't imagine x970 will be much better at all unless you're looking for a subset of features no current boards offer
>>109348343
Shoulda buyboughted since ram speed doesn't matter to x3d
>>
>>109348351
from a quick search x970 supposedly offers CUDIMM and CAMM DDR5 RAM support. I don't know if anyone with a x870 board and ram would bother with this given the current state of prices and am6 in a few years anyway
>>
>>109348390
CUDIMM support is dependent on AGESA and the physical IO die on the cpu. Zen5 is able to run it in passive mode while zen4 doesn't boot with it. Zen6 should be able to run it in active mode on all am5 boards if AMD allows it
>>
>>109348432
I remember AMD wanted to replace AGESA. The rumor is that x970 runs the ram better as current board use some bypass? I didn't go into the details but seems like an attempt to get some last bucks out of enthusiasts. Motherboard sales have stagnated a bit with other parts being expensive

It's the other 1dpc boards like the b650 tachyon or other itx boards using a0b0 channels that might break compatibility with zen6
And yeah I hope they release a white apex next

1. An Asus motherboard so it'll push its Armory Crate bloatware from the very BIOS. AM5 platform of course to lock the build on expensive DDR5 memory, also just shuill for one stick of DDR5 RAM with the shittiest speed/latency ratio possible making any upgrades painful.
2. Some Ryzen 7 8700 as CPU since we're on AM5.
3. An LG monitor for pretty much the same reason bloatware reason as the motherboard.
4. A Gigabyte 5080 GPU to leak its thermal paste while burning its connector and being terrible price/performance value.
5. A 500W PSU of some SaarWare brand nobody heard of before and mystery inside.
6. Custom loop water cooling to be too expensive, too hustle to manage and to leak one day.

Or copy one of Buildzoid's easy timing.

The memory kit in your current list won't work with Buildzoid's timing guide because it doesn't have Hynix memory chips.

>And if local gets good enough to replace the expensive cloud, giga AI corporations are going to eat shit as businesses start building their own systems, making the shortages infinitely worse than they are now.
Yeah, the downside of Anthropic/OpenAI/etc eating shit is that LLMs are more efficient when everyone is using shared hardware. Just loading the model uses a baseline amount of memory, so it'll take as much hardware to have a model available for a single user as it does for a hundred users. You also have speed benefits from caching.

Don't copy his tRAS 30 advice, it's outdated information.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS_NeTwjOvY

You should also leave tFAW & related timings at:
tRRD_S 8
tWTR_S 4
tFAW 32
https://www.overclock.net/threads/amd-ddr5-oc-and-24-7-daily-memory-stability-thread.1800926/page-1470#post-29475693
TLDR: Stick to tFAW 32 on DDR5 UDIMMs, because lowering it can create pipeline stalls by disrupting the memory architecture's 1024-Byte page size and its alignment with CPU cache line transfers.
The BIOS firmware is likely correcting lower tFAW and related memory read timings.

The use case for 4k is strictly televisions for media playback. Actual heavy loads like rendering and gaming won't be meant for 4k until the day hardware can actually run it, WITHOUT compromises. Western Digital / Sandisk for NVMe SSDs. SN850X (PCIe Gen 4) or SN8100 (Gen 5) for high end, SN7100 for DRAMless (but same TBW endurance rating).
Avoid the SN7100S (cheaper one with lower rated endurance)

Samsung EVO 870 for SATA SSD

>Aiming for cheap prices of course.
None of those are cheap, you'll have to gamble on some Chinese/Taiwanese SSDs and trust their spec sheets.
TeamGroup, Silicon Power, and Lexar (Lexar NM790) are the more reliable brands in this tier.
Some people complain about ADATA / XPG, but I think they're bang average (not terrible, not great).
ZhiTai (YMTC-owned), BiWin (makes Acer SSDs) might be worth considering.

A new study suggests open-world games may do more than just help players escape for a few hours. Published in JMIR Serious Games, the research surveyed 2,252 adults and found that people who played open-world adventure games, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, reported lower levels of loneliness than nonplayers.

The study also found that these players showed higher levels of stoicism, described as emotional resilience, self-control, and the ability to handle challenges calmly. Researchers believe exploration-based games can encourage persistence, problem-solving, recovery from setbacks, and emotional regulation, while more accessible feel-good games may help create a healthier “digital diet” for emotional well-being.

The authors are not saying games replace therapy or professional mental health support, but the findings push back against the idea that gaming is only passive escapism. For many players, these worlds can become spaces to breathe, reflect, adapt, and feel a little less alone. Do open-world games help you disconnect in a good way?

I'd like to use in AI computer use and be an isolated system if shits goes down. It's not a Local AI machine strictly, as I'll use API or Subscriptions, unless future AI optimization opens my options more.

Get this TeamGroup 6000 MT/s CL30 kit (most likely Hynix A over M) if you're committed to paying CA$600.
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/H9CZxr/teamgroup-t-create-expert-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr5-6000-cl30-memory-ctced532g6000hc30dc01

Alternatives

The Silicon Power memory kit has heat spreaders for only one side, it's not necessarily a deal breaker.
But I'd just get the TeamGroup T-Create.

Are you going DDR5 to upgrade to a Zen 6/7 CPU in the future?

Either my cpu or motherboard just exploded, which I guess is deserved for making it play league. 9800x3d and asus proart x870e. crucial pro 2x32 ddr5 6000. I really hope it's the cpu. I don't want to have to dig out the motherboard.

I'm saving for cheap land to start a homestead. Either I'll be saving so much money that expensive ass components won't bother me, or I'll just live a simpler lifestyle without gaming. I won't need a PC to distract me from expensive urban hell and modern society if I'm living in nature on land that I own.
I just upgraded my AM4 rig to its limits (can still upgrade GPU in the future tho), new PSU and cooler as well, and I'm gonna ride it for the next decade until it crumbles. Might even be my last PC, who knows. Maybe I'll take up woodworking or archery or something since I'll have the space.

Start an AMD CPU RMA and get a replacement, ASUS will probably ask you to do this first anyway.
Board BIOS should be updated to at least version 2103 (2026/03/16), latest stable version recommended (update through USB Flashback).
>>
>>109351940
Yeah it's updated already. I've been having some weird issues when booting into windows recently, so a dying memory controller makes sense to me. I'm just going to bring it to a shop so that they can try the cpu in another board and vice versa. I don't want to have to wait for the cpu rma, then wait for a mobo rma if that was the actual issue.

so im upgrading wifes pc and decided to browse the fairy popular local forum here for some used parts
>guy 1 is selling used 3080 10gb
>guy 2 chimes in "do not buy this! its overpriced and used! you should rather buy a new 9060 xt!"
>guy 3 chimes in "nah do not buy amd, nvidia is superior"
>the listing is now basically just charts and screenshot comparisons of upscaling technologies
same situation happens on amd listings as well, i know that there were always fanboys of these companies but i dont remember them fighting under peoples listings of items and ive been browsing this forum for over 20 years now
>>
>>109352213
Idk about a forum, it can be couple autists arguing to sway the mood.
The internet talk about popular tech revolve around similar resources that are freely available. Few popular youtubers, toms hardware.

3080 is pretty old at this point, newer cards are much more energy efficient. Nvidia has better featureset, but amd is alright for upscaling in games these days.

playing videogames is still fun if you made the right decisions and got into hard and competitive games like cs2, dota 2, warcraft 3, sc2, poe1, poe2, etc

I'd say 5 years at minimum. You're just asking for disappointment otherwise.
Realistically your choices are to accept the insane prices, stay on DDR4, or find a new hobby. People need to reevaluate what gaming is worth to them, and whether it's important to have cutting edge tech. I think it's much healthier to adopt a mindset of "enough", where you can be happy with good rather than chasing the best and latest. This applies to everything else in life, too.
>>
>>109352845
>i got ddr5 cuz ddr4 was incompatible with most of the hardware.
Going DDR5 to run a RTX 5060 8GB at most likely 1080p resolution is a steep premium.
This video covers 1440p resolution, but it's somewhat relevant.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqRTVzk2PXs

I wouldn't bother with DDR5 unless you want a higher end X3D/workstation PC or you need a gap filler until Zen 6 next year (new X3D might release in '28).
>>
>>109352724
>>109352962
desu the current situation is entirely your own fault if your FOMOing right now.
I've been on DDR5 for years now, it's been worth it for about that long. $280 was not expensive for 96GB. Neither was mobos.

What where people waiting for?
I seriously don't get it, it's like you want high end performance but don't keep up or even glance at new shit? Now people are coping and compromising.

One idiot was unironically waiting™ until prices of DDR5 kits dropped as low as DDR4s.
This was at a time when people in the US could buy a 2x 16GB 6000MT/s Hynix kit for less than $80.
I should've bought the 8400MT/s 48GB CUDIMM kit (1.4V) when it was sold for under $300, but I wasn't going to buy any Arrow Lake parts.
>>
>>109352354
I said you really want 4k.

>>
>>109353036
zen 4 and zen 5 literally are not upgrades from zen 3 x3d, it was a waste of money, no it doesn't matter that you get +30 fps at 720p because you're not going to run the game at that resolution
zen 6 was going to change things and it will but now it's not economically smart to upgrade and probably won't be until ddr6 second generation or earlier in ddr5 last generation
>>
>>109353089
i sold a kit of corsair 32gb ddr4 for less than 80 bucks late last year, not losing any money on it, to buy a kingston fury 32gb ddr5 kit at a little over 150 bucks with taxes

>>
>>109353089
Ironically I think AMD (and their fanbois) have thoroughly and permanently mindfucked a certain portion of the market.
Treating "platforms" and mobos as some long term investments rather than just regular upgrade increments.
