Is software "engineering" a legitimate field? Be honest. Me mum vibe coded a marketplace app in a weekend and is making money from it. How can that be a serious industry in 2026?

get as much basic knowledge about everything that you can, and do it now. dont specialize. ai can do the specialization. you just need to know as much about how everything works from the top down as you can.

im a full stack guy and ai is basically a full dev team of pajeets to me. coding has literally never been more fun, faster, and cheaper. yes it makes mistakes, who cares? show me some software that doesnt have bugs

Anything is a legitimate field if you can convince enough people that it is.

It depends on who you're making software for and what it's going to be used. You cannot vibe code a banking software unless you want life in prison when someone inevitably finds a way to exploit something

What app your mum developed? Post the play/apple store version or this is a bait thread.

the easiest work gets automated first innit
feel bad for zoomers who thought they could make easy money
gonna have to actually work hard now doing something like HR
>>
do you think programming is the only thing AI is good at?
every single white collar job is illegitimate by that logic

Being the only "customer" in Stripe dashboard doesn't count as MRR, okay? :^)

Yes, because even if you can vibeslop something, the best thing you could ever vibeslop would be dependant on you knowing what to ask and how to get the vibeslopper machine to structure things

Second this.

I can entertain that idea
just a bit sick of software being singled out as this uniquely doomed and replaceable field in public discourse while nobody bats an eye at infinitely more braindead office monkey jobs

software programming isn't engineering, and software engineering effectively does not exist in the form anyone recognizes as programming. programmers and technologists (IT isn't engineering either) spend almost all their time reiventing the same 10 solutions to the same 10 problems insisting they are uniquely hard or are different problems and they are not. Go to any actual engineering office and the staff and principle engineers will beat you to death with standards and process documents so large your devshitter systems documents are made to be a post it note. They are simply not engineering, the onl time the fields were close is when they were pioneered by actual engineers. The last 2 generations have been technologists. Softeare programming is a legit field and perfectly fine career overall, but you will see a ton of wasted time and effort because everyone is a moron as software and IT is just the new skilled labor and 60 years ago all your coworkers and you would just be working at the Ford car plant.

Your mom didn't code anything, she just opened an OF account anon
