All 24-gb gpus regardless of vendor are $1000+. 960 gb/s and better memory bandwidth means MORE MONEY. CUDA is not worth more money, MEMORY is.

RTX 5080 is 960 gb/s and is $1100-1300+, 7900XTX is 960gb/s as well.

I have a question about OLED, for those of you that use it.
I have a pretty good 1440p monitor right now, but was thinking of upgrading in the future.
I remember I used to hear a lot of complaints about burn-ins, bad text and exorbitant prices from OLED users. But, recently, in the past one or two years, I see Youtubers make a lot of videos about how OLED is good now. Its technical problems have become negligible and its also affordable now. I'm not sure if they're shills or genuine and I will never trust Reddit, so I am asking the smart people on /g/.
Its not like I am in a hurry to upgrade. I am VERY patient. I used the same system for 17 years before upgrading. So, I can deal with my current monitor. I heard there's this newfangled thing called MicroRGB thats better than both LCD and OLED but still sucks as a monitor. I am even willing to wait until MicroRGB becomes viable and affordable, although I don't think thats happening, atleast not in the next 15-20 years. So, I'm mostly checking out OLED.
>>
Why does almost no one buy Alienware monitors? They are leagues above the others, holy shit dude they’re like fine aged wine compared to spoiled milk.
>>
>>109355833
Text issues are fixed once the new panels come out with RGB stripe, or you can get an older 4k panel where it's not as noticeable. The text fringing is only noticeable in the 1440p monitors. If you want the best oled monitor you're gonna need to wait till next year when they release the new models that have a black coating to fix the black turning purple in light problem, RGB stripe setup to fix text fringing, higher brightness, etc.
>>
>>109355839
They do, their QD OLED monitors are always recommended.
>>
>>109354769
Why would you even need security updates for TVs? Or allow it to connect to the internet or use a microphone? Its a fricking TV
>>109354771
I do think thats legit after what Wangfeng said in the latest investor call. He said that the software moat wasn't big anymore. Before they were forced to use CUDA and Njudea GPUs. But, now AI is so good at coding, they've made their own custom CUDA-equivalent software with AI's help that runs pretty good on Chinese GPUs.
>>
>>109355871
I see. And this is a bit of a tangent, but would you say a 4k OLED is much better than 1440p LCD? I say this because after I upgraded my system, I wasn't really impressed with the upgrade from 1080p to 1440p. I was perfectly fine gaming in 720p/1080p. And for less than half the price of my monitor I could've bought a really good 1080p monitor. So, I'm suffering from buyer's remorse and am wondering if upgrading displays is even worth it now.
>>
>>109355900
A 4k QD OLED is better than any LCD in everything except max brightness, I recommend you go to a store so you can see different oled monitors and see if they're something you want.
>>
Thoughts on desktop matts? Should I get one that covers the whole surface of my desk and my monitor rests on it?

Why the KOSPI is down today:

A note is circulating that Morgan Stanley analyst Shawn Kim has turned bearish on memory.

Summary of the note:
----------------------------------------------------------
Shawn Kim’s bearish take on memory

- NAND
Module makers are holding about 13 weeks of inventory, compared with a COVID-era peak of 15 weeks.“Demand has evaporated.”

- The pace of price increases is expected to slow to 5% QoQ in Q4, reducing the need to pull forward demand. The opportunity cost of pulling forward demand is also much lower.

- CSPs say their inventory levels are healthy.Tencent, one of the CSPs, said it has already secured 90% of its requirements.
- NAND spot prices have been declining over the past two months.

- Demand and supply appear to be converging.CXMT is ramping up supply rapidly.

- DRAM: If NAND goes down, sell DRAM as well.

- HBM: Growth is expected to be capped at around 40%, reportedly based on TrendForce data.

- Joe Moore’s checks: Joe Moore looked into why their views differ.

- His checks were conducted with U.S. CSPs, which may be overly bullish on AI.

go to bios screen and boot into uefi shell.
use the DOS style prompt to find out what fs<number> your efi partition is using dir and cd commands.
find the uefi bootloader (like systemd-bootx64.efi if you're using systemd-boot) and run it.

then once you're booted back into linux make sure you check bootctl or whatever bootloader install command to make sure the efi variables get set.

t. msi mobo forgets every time you upgrade the bios. which also overrides the set boot order until you change it in the bios.

Halo: Campaign Evolved Reviews are here!

The game is getting across the board praise for its 2 hour of new missions, the graphical uplift and for overall upholding what Combat Evolved was always so good at. the main criticisms come down to the new shiny art style that does not work as well as the original's timeless style plus some reviewers feel the remake comes across as unnecessary.

I got one and I'm not impressed. Other than burn in the downsides are acceptable so far but the positives aren't as mind-blowing as some claim unless they only ran $100 monitors so far and now spend the first time more. If I had to choose I'd rather go back to 1080p than going up to 4k if you don't want 1440p. There are some upcoming 25" 1080p OLED upcoming but not sure if I can recommend them given the price from my own experience so far.

I am EXTREMELY interested in whether LG's new RGB Tandem panels will have the same issues with color volume or not compared to their WOLED models. Because they are still bottom emission I doubt they will do anything to improve banding and DSE though, sadly. Also curious about the color volume of the RGB panels from TCL CSOT.
https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/msi-unveil-the-worlds-first-inkjet-printed-oled-monitor-in-their-pro-max-range
TCL's 4K RGB panel is VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 (300 nits fullscreen) but only ~120Hz, while LG"s 4K RGB panel is only VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 (250 nits fullscreen) but is 240Hz. On paper TCL has the advantage over LG but for the slower TFT backplane which I think an OEM like ASUS could remedy.

>Oled is just a stopgap until QDEL and microLED get off the ground.
Last I heard, Samsung has restarted QNED development to try and stay ahead of the onslaught of IJP RGB OLEDs the Chinese are about to unleash on the market:
https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1773392979
>According to a report by Korean newspaper ETNews, Samsung Display restarted QNED development in late 2025. The project had been paused in mid-2022 after multiple years of research due to challenges in aligning LEDs and achieving uniform light and color. QNED is similar to QD-OLED in that quantum dots convert blue light to red and green. The key difference is that QNED uses inorganic (nanorod) LEDs, whereas QD-OLED uses organic LEDs, i.e. OLED.
Seems a lot closer to commercialization than QDEL which NanoSys has been pitching as coming "soon" for 1000 years now.

Great thanks! The important key comparison here is against the Alienware AW3426DW I highlighted here as that's using Samsung's new rival RGB V-Stripe Panel, nice to see LG's version is competitive (if still a std. deviation worse) with it terms of color gamut and color volume. Also nice that panel uniformity is significantly better than all of the non-RGB WOLEDs released to date assuming HUBTim didn't get a golden sample and again competitive (but slightly worse) than QD-OLED. It really goes to show how much a blight the White Subpixel LG foisted on everyone in the market as been for image quality all this time.

Rec2020 is a container for other smaller colorspaces like sRGB and the ARGB (and even it's still 25% smaller than all of the colors in visible spectrum light to human eyes).
For content consumption, nothing is actually mastered to use all of the available color coordinates it has, instead simply look at how much of the DCI-P3 gamut is advertised as being covered by a monitor as that's the colorspace 4K/HDR content is mastered in (~most self-respecting models can get to ~95-99% coverage these days). What matters more is color volume and contrast which only OLED and to a far lesser extent MiniLED can deliver on.

Don't go under tFAW 32 with those memory sticks, these are the recommended minimums.
tRRD_S 8
tWTR_S 4
tFAW 32

Setting tFAW to 24 or 20 shrinks the logical page target to roughly 768B or 640B from the intended 1KB DRAM page size.
Memory benchmarks don't strictly demand a full 1KB DRAM page size and falsely appear performant.
tFAW 20 or 24 creates hidden pipeline stalls and degrades real-world performance by violating the physical page architecture.
Truncating your DRAM page size to 640B or 768B (tFAW 20 or 24) means the memory subsystem can deliver misaligned data blocks to the L3 cache.
https://www.overclock.net/threads/amd-ddr5-oc-and-24-7-daily-memory-stability-thread.1800926/page-1470#post-29475693

People think tFAW 20, 24, or 16 (Intel) is fine because stress tests don't report any errors.
These stress tests detect bit-flips and signal integrity errors, not hardware wait-states or firmware overrides.

It's the opposite of really well.
The only thing an AIO provides is a slightly cooler cold plate, which does help heat transfer but the system in general is not working very efficiently.
A 360mm radiator should be capable of 300-400w of dissipation if the heat actually makes it to the water but good luck actually cooling a CPU of that wattage.

>>
>>109360125
AIO companies can't really do shit - the core of the problem is 1) modern cpus are tiny, so lmao fuck your surface area and 2) they have a nice be fat IHS in the way which is killing thermal transfer. That is why delidding see such massive gains in cooling as you are effectively cooling the bare metal as it were.
>>
>>109360139
Why can't they just make the CPUs bigger? Threadrippers have huge sockets

About to buy some ram for my PC

> 32GB DDR4 (2x16)

Should I get 3200 CL16 or 3600 CL 16? Price difference is negligible.
Also wondering if I should splurge and get 64GB with 4x16. Total price is like 440 bucks, which I don't necessarily need but can probably afford.
>>
>>109360150

>>
32GB is bare minimum now, if you want to start doing cool shit or work stuff you really need 64GB minimum. I was lucky to get the 32GB for still cheap but man I wish I had 64GB.
>>
>>109360147
CPUs are impatient and having shit physically further away to increase surface area hurts performance - that is the achilles' heel of MCM like designs. It works most of the time for threadripper and epyc because of their expected use case but for a desktop you'd just murder performance for no real gain.

The problem is running cores at breakneck frequencies.
It creates so much heat in a tiny space of silicon that conventional IHS designs and coolers cannot conduct the heat fast enough to stop the silicon from hitting it's temp threshold.

Well, I've been fucking around with an AE-9 sound card, because I don't know, I was feeling nostalgic I guess, and I'm so close to returning it because it really isn't that much better than just having a separate DAC and XLR input daisy chain, but man, the Scout mode IS useful for enemy Spies in TF2. Still, it was expensive and I still needed a microphone inline pre-amp for the XLR input.

Also, I was excited for my motherboard to have Bluetooth finally, only to learn that they only have drivers for Windows 11... I really, really don't wanna install Windows 11.

>Why can't they just make the CPUs bigger?
A larger chips fucks up the economics of the product, there's a higher defect rate with larger, monolithic chips.
AMD and Intel are breaking down CPUs into die/tile sets as a cost optimization measure, not every piece of the CPU needs to be on the best node due to silicon density scaling issues.
The thermal density of these compute die/tile makes newer chips harder to cool (with the IHS to consider).

Unless it's wifi 7, that really does only work on windows 11.

>>
>>109357735

MicroRGB are just smaller different colored LEDs, it's good but not as good as OLED which are individual pixels. MicroRGB is only being pushed as a stopgap until MicroLED becomes economically viable. OLED has issues, it will always have issues, everything has issues. All issues are exaggerated and will not affect the majority of users. If you need something to display a static image permanently or don't want to think about it just get LED. If you want the best image get OLED. I got OLED for my TV and I have an old LCD for my desktop. I'm just waiting for MicroLED and I like OLED better. Backlights are lame, individual pixels are cool.

veii is a gigaschizo and anything he says can be safely ignored
L3 cachelines are 64B, it's physically impossible for the memory to deliver "misaligned data blocks" to the cache
the reason you don't really see any benefit going below 32 is because it would be very rare for the IMC to issue four ACT commands back-to-back without also doing four READ commands back-to-back (which are restricted to a minimum of 32 cycles on DDR5, since each read burst is 8 cycles)

ROG Crosshair X870E Glacial. I can't even find official Wi-Fi drivers on their site, so I dunno. It might not be the latest or the greatest, but until (if) Microsoft ever fixes Windows 11, I'm not moving to it.

Now all that's left is to decide if I'm really missing anything by returning this Sound card and going for a more standard setup. I would assume no but it's not even like it's a bad quality sound card, and I do like the cable management all going to the module I can put on my desktop.

Working is largely a humiliation ritual. I was at walmart yesterday grocery shopping and I overheard two wagies who had just gotten off their shift at that Walmart and they were grocery shopping and talking about how much of a pain it was to put back a cart that was all the way across the parking lot. You can't make it up. Literally just gamble on shitcoins it's less self degrading than working.

Anyway, if you want a computer I heavily suggest just keeping what you have and just trying to find games that run well on your hardware. Have you played Hades 1 and or 2? They are decent enough and should run. You can get thousands of hours from indie games. Go play Terraria.

But yeah, just wait for technology to get better, that's what I'm doing. The budget tech of tomorrow will effectively be a supercomputer if you understand how technology is constantly evolving. You don't need more, you need patience
