i like gnome because it has no unique justified usecase
People still can't get over the minor Qt licence disagreement from 30 years ago and just use KDE.
>>109357256>posted ebussy again award
Wasn't GNOME foundation involved in corrupt scandal where members of board of directors stole €1m grant they received last year and when one member tried to investigate that other members kicked him out?
>>109357256That’s the neat part — I don’t
>>109357256I don't. I use Ubuntu LTS with the default gnome setup. The only thing I change is moving the taskbar from the left side to the bottom so it's similar to Windows. Then I just use my computer.
this xude does hideous celebrations. usecase of mentioning xim?
>>109357256because it looks like shitgnome shell was a mistake
>>109357256I don't hate gnome but I do genuinely despise the gtk file picker like nothing else
I'm using niri and it uses gn*me portal which wants nautilus (now gn*me files) for the file dialog. Well Nautilus is the worst thing I've ever used, the file browser barely has any functionality
mainly just disappointed because i used to love gnome (2.x). i don't care for gnome 3 for any other reason that it killed gnome 2 (and gtk+2). like i wouldn't think about gnome 3 at all otherwise, there's plenty of other desktops and wm's i don't really like, but don't think about or talk about because i don't have to like every one. the only difference with gnome is that they killed gnome 2.i don't really go out of my way to talk about it anymore, since it's an old topic at this point, but since you asked...
>>109357256kek, go ahead and try to write down why you like Gnome. The reason why Gnome shills have to constantly trash talk everyone else is because there simply is no reason for using Gnome.
>>109357441usecase of functionality in a file manager?
>>109357256if you used logic and appeal to facts you'd arrive at the conclusion that gnome sucks ass.
>>109357256I don't hate it. After trying it out a few times, I'm just disappointed by how bad it is.
>>109357268Qt is licensed under the GPL now, I don't even know why Gnome or GTK continue to exist, their entire reason for existence has long ago been nullified.
>>109357441just change your portals dude, you can configure it to use something else other than xdg-desktop-portal-gnome
>>109357543Seeing thumbnails of pictures.
>>109357256I hate gnome because they forced touchscreen oriented interface which made look everything like shit
Why woild I use gnome over anything ? It's a garbage ui not suited for desktop computing and lacks basic functions from the get go. The real question is why wouldnanyone use gnome ever.
>>109357256Do people like this think they're not going to get shot eventually?
terrible UIhttps://woltman.com/gnome-bad/
>>109357256Programs made for Gnome look alien on other desktops, and that's intentional.

>>109357256Gnome people routinely insult my preferences and things i like. Whenever I tried to interact with gnome people they were snarky and condescending and mocking of my polite stating of what i needed and wanted and desired my computer to do. Fuck your "safe space where people aren't allowed to insult what you like" bullshit ebassi you hypocrite
gnome is fine I don’t need some weird esoteric feature that you all claim you need. get used to it, it just works.
>>109357256>responses, and>life, or>like, andIt is a peculiar way to write; gnomish influence i suppose
>>109361133weird esoteric feature: the file manager shows thumbnails on the pictures, documents, videos folders, and detailed file lists elsewhere

is there a graph of DE market share since Gnome 3 came out?I remember I used to think KDE was ugly but finally bit the bullet and and tinkered with it and found a theme I like and holy shit this is so much better than I remeber
Why is GNOME still the default DE in so many distros?

>>109357256I'm convinced that Gnome is a social experiment. One day epussy will come out and publish a paper on how you can effectively gaslight people into happily eating dogshit for decades while they vehemently defend it. Gnome users aren't sentient.
>>109358350It's mainly licensed under LGPL*, only some minor components (which nobody uses) are licensed under GPL. It was actually Stallman that convinced the owner of Qt to dual license it with LGPL, it was completely proprietary before that.
Gnome reminds me of those early smartphones they used to make for elderly people with the simplified launchers and huge icons.
>>109362056Proprietary models have no place in a free and open society. AI should be a human right because all of AI is data from humans that shouldn't belong to anyone and no one should be able to profit from free available information and the efforts of humanity as a whole since it's inception. That goes without saying humans are already paying for AI in increase cost of living. We shouldn't tlet this people double and triple dip.

>>109357256I don't hate GNOME. I love GNOME and want to use it. But the apps, they are awful. Finding apps that support gtk4 libadwaita is painful. And even gtk3 apps look absolutely awful compared to gtk4 apps. The rounded corners are broken on the bottom of gtk3 apps, they are just sharp corners! Firefox, chromium, all of the browsers are not properly supporting gtk4 libadwaita. Music players with the library are awful, and god forbid you wanted even minor customization while using it. Even a light mode barely works, you need an extension to turn the top bar white.Seriously, find me a gtk4 libadwaita version of strawberry music player, I would love to use it.I want to use gnome web too, but most websites reject me or crash the tab. So instead Firefox with a shitty CSS userchrome that doesn't look like gnome at all and has a different corner radius than all other apps. I want to love gnome, but developers need to support it. And flatpaks are not helping! Gnome apps are always only available via flatpaks! I don't like to configure app permissions, and I don't like the graphical launcher required for them. I don't like the extra filesizes, and I hate how slow they are to install, update, and remove. Also, maybe this is just terrible arch packaging, but every time I've tried to use GNOME it crashes a bunch. Maybe it's better on debian. Unfortunately, gnome is heavily tied to systemd, so it's extremely limited in what distros it works on.I just end up getting frustrated and switching to i3wm, cinnamon, or MATE. MATE feels more fully featured and more cohesively themed. Same with cinnamon. And for i3, I don't even have to deal with theming anything, absolutely perfect.
