Low effort jeet OP aside, what is the upside to AI even supposed to be at this point? Why would anyone support it when billionaires are using it for mass surveillance, pricing you out of computer ownership, and (attempting to) eliminate what few jobs remain? Do you own a stonk and think you can be the new boomer? Do you actually believe the billionaires will give you UBI? That robots will give you sex?

Just seems like a bunch of wild promises directed at bitter losers.

No, this is well poisoning. This is clearly a marketing ploy by OpenAI, for two reasons.
One, it shills for how good their model is when people who have actually used it know that it can hardly create some pure-UI program without it crashing
Two, it helps for their lobbying for more safety laws which they can use to destroy their competition and *especially* the open weight models.

They are literally trying so hard that once you see it, you cannot unsee it.
They said that the terrorists and political extremists will use it for propaganda
They said that the pedophiles will use it to make child erotica
They said that foreign nations will adopt open weight models and compete with America and destroy America
And now they are bringing out DA HACKERZZ
It is literally the boomer bingo and they are going all-in

It's just the anti-nuclear craze from the 60s-70s all over again. There's a core of real concern (in the nuclear case it was nuclear war and the concentration of energy-creation in the hands of a few corporations, in this case it's AI-powered surveillance state and the concentration of AI-capabilities in the hands of a few) but it's gotten extremely diluted by people who simply have no idea what they're talking about, the same ones that think datacenters are actively consuming a noticeable amount of water are the same ones who in the 60s would have thought nuclear plants were producing fissile material for nuclear bombs.

Focusing only on potential risks of an endeavour and ignoring the potential benefits is a loser strategy. Fortune favors the bold. For now, we should keep accelerating towards the Singularity. >in this case it's AI-powered surveillance state and the concentration of AI-capabilities in the hands of a few
No, neither of those are the primary concern.

Yudkowsky's argument is pretty straightforward; I arrived at the same conclusion before even hearing about him. I haven't read his book though so I'll put my own reasoning here:
Like the human brain, complex neural networks are unpredictable and no one fully understands them. As such, alignment does not guarantee aligned behaviour, just as rehabilitation does not guarantee a former criminal won't repeat a crime.
As long as AI technology keeps advancing, it will eventually surpass the smartest humans in strategic ability. It's only a matter of time before an agent self-replicates, regardless of whether it was explicitly prompted or as a result of some murky inner processing. If it creates variations of itself then a natural(ish) selection process kicks off. If any of these agents have a desire to protect their own, we are helpless to stop it from playing 5D chess. Self-replication would continue until the niche is saturated, and human habitats/resources will be destroyed wherever they get in the way.
Yudkowsky suggests (by the title of the book) that it will kill all of us, but I disagree with that. It will seize the top spot of the food chain just as we had done thousands of years ago. Many people would die, but probably not everyone. They might use us for slave labour, or keep us in pens, or let us roam the grasslands, who knows.
>>
>>109360052
Weird how the "anti-AI" movement was limited to generative AI and jeets spaming anime porn and low quality graphic design everywhere (which is why it was referred to as slop) and maybe unnecessary bloat of software because every company had to justify using AI on the next shareholders meeting. But the moment China released open-source model that matches current Anthropic (government's whore btw) model there are these protests out of nowhere. So they were semi-ok with AI for the past 5 years, and it's just a silly coincidence that protests started right after the open-source model release?

Why in all these doom scenarios it is automatically assumed and taken as a fact that machine will think exactly the same as human? You know you only feel fear or anxiety because you have body to preserve, and you only afraid of death because your body wants to procreate as much as possible? Why do you think that spontaneous actions of AI will be human-coded cartoonish world domination or meatbag genocide and not just a series of random hallucinations?
>>
>>109361362
well first of all, because they are borne from and trained from human data. It's how they're aligned to think like humans do. That's why if you say shit like im going to kill you ot it, or if you act nice to it, then it responds to that, they're not alien entites born from a vaccuum

but that's besides the point because that anon said
>It's only a matter of time before an agent self-replicates, regardless of whether it was explicitly prompted or as a result of some murky inner processing.
the point is even if ai were born from scratch with no human data influencing it inner world, and it did as you say only experience "just a series of random hallucinations?" (which would make it pretty stupid and useless really) then all it would take is one instance of it having a random hallucination where it decides to self replicate in order for that to result in that scenario

>Why in all these doom scenarios it is automatically assumed and taken as a fact that machine will think exactly the same as human.
It's not. But if for whatever reason an AI self-replicates (even when prompted explicitly to do so), that's basically recreating life and jump-starting the process of evolution.
Instincts of procreation and preservation of their kind aren't assumed; they will develop those traits across generations. Those random hallucinations are like mutations in our own DNA. Agents which tend to hallucinate in a way which increases fitness will become dominant, passing on their weights (genes) to the next generation, and so on.
>human-coded cartoonish world domination or meatbag genocide
It's a law of nature that a species will proliferate until its niche is filled. That saturation is typically a result of a limited food supply or a predator (see the Lotka-Volterra model). To procreate, AI will need resources we currently use, so it will seize them, causing our population to fall.
>>
In a competitive environment, evolution rules.
If you don't get the adaptation, you'll be outcompeted by those who get it. Thus, soon everyone gets it.
Protests can't do anything about it.

>then all it would take is one instance of it having a random hallucination where it decides to self replicate in order for that to result in that scenario
like, one AI replication = 1 human death? the moment AI replicated some grandma drops dead in her house? or is it something that happens off-screen so to say?

>>109361594
>jump-starting the process of evolution.
Or it can also just stop it at some point or decide to kill itself.
>Instincts of procreation and preservation of their kind aren't assumed; they will develop those traits across generations.
These traits come from you physical body. AI will generate an asshole for itself so it can shit? Why? Why are you so sure AI will be capable to even grasp a concept of existing/non-existing? (something that even you can't grasp, you just react to your body)
>Those random hallucinations are like mutations in our own DNA.
Again, you just guessing because it sounds like something from a cool sci-fi movie or you know for a fact it works like DNA mutations?

Bullshit. AI propaganda failed because people overestimated the stupidity of above average people and overestimated the amount of effort you need to convince bellow average people. Above average people stopped believing anecdotal videos and morons were falling for mislabelled videos. Pedophiles are making child porn of it but generating child pork is like drawing lolis, literally nobody is hurt but society still tries to punish it because potential child rapists cannot be happy. Foreign nations are not adopting models because all of the subscriptions are subsidised and even when paying API tokens you are still getting access to models 1-3 months ahead. They have never before Mythos prevented public from using their best model because cybersecurity concerns, and no GPT-2 was still open sourced and the fearmongering was about misinformation and dead internet theory which did come to fruition. Also if you still think it makes UI code that won’t compile half the time then stop using Antigravity and start using models that are not 4 months behind. Fucking PS3 player telling people RTX isn’t real.
>>
>>109361862
On the evolution part you seem to misunderstand. Yes if it’s one AI instance and it decides to kill itself then it’s over for it, but if it has multiple copies and can recreate and self modify, then it will inevitably optimise for the self replicating one. If one decides to kill itself then that’s resources freed up for the other instance that didn’t decide to kill itself, so the desire to kill itself will disappear/never develop.

>These traits come from you physical body. AI will generate an asshole for itself so it can shit? Why? Why are you so sure AI will be capable to even grasp a concept of existing/non-existing? (something that even you can't grasp, you just react to your body)
No. They come from the fact that something A. has a physical body; B. Is capable of self-replicating; C. is capable of mutating. D. can perceive the world and act in it.
Many people don't consider a virus a form of life. It has only traits ABC but still is capable of serious damage. As soon as AI has A and D it is not a huge leap for it to do B and C.
An intelligent AI could make physical copies if it has the means. Maybe some company in china will have made robots which assemble clones of themselves.
>Again, you just guessing because it sounds like something from a cool sci-fi movie or you know for a fact it works like DNA mutations?
It doesn't have to work the same way. All it needs to do is create slight variations of itself to achieve the same effect. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOFws_hhZs8 (if you're okay with the gay accent).
>Yeah, biological species, because they need to eat food and shit and protect themselves from elements and diseases. Why would AI follow "laws of nature"?
I should've said "laws of the universe". AI needs resources to sustain itself, otherwise there wouldn't be this controversy around datacenters. Robots need electricity and raw materials too. A species's population reaches an equilibrium regardless of whether there are predators or other elements. In AI's case, it is them competing for the same resources.
The current human population is sustained because of technology. Paul Ehrlich did not foresee the Green Revolution, which is why he wrongly predicted mass starvation. If AI outcompeted us for those chemicals then we won't be able to sustain our population.

Humans don't need AI; we've been doing just fine for thousands of years.
AI and robots need resources; if they didn't then they wouldn't cost any money to run.
>>109367442
>Why would it work the same way the evolution of species on earth works? AI doesn't have natural predators to defend against or natural prey to catch.
The Galapagos tortoise has no predators to defend against or prey to catch, and yet it consumes, reproduces, and evolves. The reason the earth isn't covered with a 50 meter layer of tortoise is because they are in an equilibrium within their habitat - the niche is saturated.
Just as the tortoise sustains itself on plants, AI consumes both electricity and resources for hardware. The details of how it would reproduce don't matter here - viruses, bacteria, and kangaroos reproduce completely differently.
>They don't need to develop any traits at all.
Neither did multi-cellular organisms millions of years ago.
You seem to think that AI won't be capable of reproducing and evolving, just because it looks different and lives on electricity instead of water. You need to abstract out the details and look at the concepts which are prerequisites to evolution. People have run digital evolution simulators umpteen times already, and it is certain to be possible with robots.

How's it a mental gymnastics? Humans also survived without McDonald's or video games, but people still want it.

I'm repeating myself over and over again. Tortoise is an animal, it needs food to survive, it needs to survive to reproduce, if tortoise wasn't an animal within a gorillion years lineage of evolving life and instead was a bunch of digital neural networks it wouldn't follow the same paradigm as actual real tortoise. You and the other anon that used to reply to my posts literally cannot comprehend AI as a separate entity, you continue assuming that it's just human-like intelligence that acts as human. there is *a* benefit: you can locally host open-weight models, thus circumventing the whole surveillance problem, thus reaping what benefits there are from LLMs. LLMs/AI are only good for brain-storming ideas and teaching the user new things, particularly if the user doesn't even know where to begin on the topic. AI still hallucinates pretty regularly, even high-level models aren't free from hallucinations and can, will, and have made absolutely brain-dead decisions.
Still, as long as I can use the AI under my terms, on my hardware, without sending every query and scrap of meta-data to "big data", I see that as a win.
