Any recommendations on keyboards? I think I'm pretty much only going to use it as input for VST's and stuff. also do you think it's worth getting a physical TB-303 (probably knock off) or should I just go with the VST? I can see the appeal for both, but it's kinda a waste of money to buy both.
>>109361020really depends on what you're looking for. do you just need 12 keys to input midi data? or do you need 49 keys to dance around multiple octaves without having to press a button to switch between each octave. imo, I think a lot of producers get the smaller midi keyboards because they think they don't need to "play" the piano for their music. besides space or portable constraints, I think this is a mistake. the smaller keyboards have tiny little girl keys and it's a lot harder to get good articulation. I think it also prevents you from having happy accidents since you are forced to manually change which key range you're playing at. playing chords are annoying af. there are also less programmable buttons and slidersI personally use the arturia keylab 49 essential and whilst it might be bigger than some little niglet 12 key keyboard like the minilab, I just find it MUCH more enjoyable to play. also, the "Transport" buttons are absolutely game changing when it comes to recording, playback, stop, start etc within my daw. It is so easy to record shit with. pic related
>>109361097i would definitely want the bigger one. those "happy little accidents" are exactly what i'm looking for. my main thing here is to stay fairly locked in physically; if you can't think of anything you can always mash random buttons or play something you know until something new comes to you, but if you have to do a bunch of mouse clicks and buttons to play anything you really can't do that as easily.i find the writing lessons from Finding Forester to be equally as useful for music; sometimes just the rhythm of playing can help ideas flow, or starting with something else and then changing over when your own ideas come to you. i just dont see this sort of thing happening as easily when you're controlling it all with a mouse, or a small keyboard. so i feel full is a must.

I set up a gaming pedal (pic related) I picked from the trash to send midi Expression to the Waveform. I did it with a custom Python script, that I turn on and off with caps look. No online program could do it. I just love this shit. It works great, I can now play cello. Feels like a king.I guess I'll map the gas pedal to something else, maybe make tab switch between the parameters it controls, but I'm not sure what to map it to.i also picked up a joystick, but again I'm not sure if there's anything I can use it for.

especially jim lill's recent video about how preamps supposedly sound the same pissed a lot of people off and it also emboldened people who don't hear a difference between different gear like also synths etc. people want to act like they have the moral high ground like they're making real art while using plugins that are only a low quality imitations of gear, the plugin devs put most of the effort into designing a slick GUI and not innovating with the actual sound quality, they need to keep cpu usage down so that people will buy it. some plugins use literal AI slop like NAM and amateurs eat it up.
