Any recommendations on keyboards? I think I'm pretty much only going to use it as input for VST's and stuff. also do you think it's worth getting a physical TB-303 (probably knock off) or should I just go with the VST? I can see the appeal for both, but it's kinda a waste of money to buy both.
>>109361020really depends on what you're looking for. do you just need 12 keys to input midi data? or do you need 49 keys to dance around multiple octaves without having to press a button to switch between each octave. imo, I think a lot of producers get the smaller midi keyboards because they think they don't need to "play" the piano for their music. besides space or portable constraints, I think this is a mistake. the smaller keyboards have tiny little girl keys and it's a lot harder to get good articulation. I think it also prevents you from having happy accidents since you are forced to manually change which key range you're playing at. playing chords are annoying af. there are also less programmable buttons and slidersI personally use the arturia keylab 49 essential and whilst it might be bigger than some little niglet 12 key keyboard like the minilab, I just find it MUCH more enjoyable to play. also, the "Transport" buttons are absolutely game changing when it comes to recording, playback, stop, start etc within my daw. It is so easy to record shit with. pic related
>>109361097i would definitely want the bigger one. those "happy little accidents" are exactly what i'm looking for. my main thing here is to stay fairly locked in physically; if you can't think of anything you can always mash random buttons or play something you know until something new comes to you, but if you have to do a bunch of mouse clicks and buttons to play anything you really can't do that as easily.i find the writing lessons from Finding Forester to be equally as useful for music; sometimes just the rhythm of playing can help ideas flow, or starting with something else and then changing over when your own ideas come to you. i just dont see this sort of thing happening as easily when you're controlling it all with a mouse, or a small keyboard. so i feel full is a must.
>>109361020>also do you think it's worth getting a physical TB-303 (probably knock off) or should I just go with the VST?I've put Yooz BL-303 (free) on a bunch of my tracks, but the modded-out Behringer clone is definitely on my wishlist just for the fun of twisting the real knobs around with both of my hands. The ABL3 plugin IS cheaper though.
>>109360776Is it okay if my submission is a little late?I'm going to be traveling next week. I plan to work on the track in the hotel when I can, but I don't know if I'll be able to do final mixing/mastering until I get back on Aug 4...
remixing for the 1000th time god help me
>>109361711i'm sure he wouldn't mind even if you submitted a year later considering how dead his community is
>>109361711dont start this shit again
>>109361711you had several months....
>>1093617981001can't get these vocals to sit right my arrangment is too sparse i think ill try again in the morning with fresh ears
>>109365086I was trying different style/genre and it's taken me longer than expected. Maybe I can finish and upload while traveling. If I don't make it.... then oh well. It was going to be a shit song either way.
>>109361711Not this time unfortunately
>>109361020>do you think it's worth getting a physical TB-303yes, I own all 303 VST clones and they all suck dick maybe only the official Roland one is "ok" followed closely by ABL3 but still they sound too clean, there is meat but no potatoes there. Getting the TD3-MO is massive upgrade over those (demo related)https://vocaroo.com/18aadAgzvZmB
>>109369174here is stock TD-3 demo (which I also like but it's a one trick pony compared to the modded one)https://vocaroo.com/1bU0PaFOSaAMI would recommend the stock TD-3 for pure acid techno and the MO version for IDM
>>109361020>do you think it's worth getting a physical TB-303no. you need to process it so much you might as well use a plugin. only if you are doing live shows with it would a real one be useful. no one listening cares about trying to find any sonic difference between unit and plugin
chuzo someone is being a retard thinking digital is better, save us
I set up a gaming pedal (pic related) I picked from the trash to send midi Expression to the Waveform. I did it with a custom Python script, that I turn on and off with caps look. No online program could do it. I just love this shit. It works great, I can now play cello. Feels like a king.I guess I'll map the gas pedal to something else, maybe make tab switch between the parameters it controls, but I'm not sure what to map it to.i also picked up a joystick, but again I'm not sure if there's anything I can use it for.

AI killed this hobby
>>109378314Sounds like you were just looking for an excuse to shit on this hobby.
>>109378314By the time you explain to an AI the exact details of what you want in an electronic music composition, and gotten the correct result, you could have just made it yourself, and that doesn't even cover live performance.
>>109378314YOU sucked all along. you were never going to get a sizable audience with or without AI. AI just made it more apparent to you. most anons are unironically so fucking stupid, the equivalent of illiterate third worlders, even if they're fully grown adult white people living in first world countries, they're trashy low class people who never had a realistic chance of achieving great success in any field and not just music.
>>109361020At some point somebody is going to have to write a driver for optical keyboards that allows them to work as a midi controller.
>>109360767I need bg music for a project video (less than 2 min) who wants to do it? I pay nothing
>>109380138im surprised this doesnt exist already - or that you can't rig it up in other oddball ways. imagine if instead of the midi controller keyboard you could control synth input with guitar or something

>>109380875>control a synth with a guitar or somethingroland gk3,BOSS sy-1000,graphtek ghostFurther, you can use your pickups as an oscillator and plug them directly into synth modules.Further, one could conceivably modify the boards for the two pickup systems above, the gk3 and the ghost, and have independent output lines for each of the pickups for use with modular synth instead of their proprietary midi conversion circuits.
>>109381979or reverse engineer the graphtek hexpander to output as usb midi instead of 13 pin.

>>109380875The latest iterations of the gk system are actually produced by BOSS, and use a serial connection. They now have a midi pickup available for 7-string guitars, which wasn't the case a few years ago. how about a new meme genre? no description, just a name. let anons figure out what they think meets that label. should produce unique and interesting results.
boss fight would go particularly hard i think it would fall in like with "music to enter the gates of hell to" a previous suggestion of mine
any linuxfags? do you guys prefer reaper or bitwig?

tick tock wizards
>been away few albums>"cool, wizard music">make song>make catbox and everything>turns out I need to show a loicense for my song>on fucking /g/ of all placesDo I need to post an ID too?
Hey guys i have a question i dont know any instruments and never made music but i can throat sing pretty well, i want to make the melodies for some of the songs i sing and i think the cleverest way would be to use a DAW, is this a simple task? Also do i NEED a good microphone for recording singing? Thamks (:>>109378314notice how very few people say that about art in the same say, where its like ai only really damaged comissions and art jobs but art hobbyists are totally unaffected if not using it for their own benefit.
>>109397473generally interacting with wannabe /mu/fags has been fucking weird and eye opening. they're truly unintelligent as they find it unreasonably difficult to learn things like music theory and to solve various technical aspects of production and audio engineering. you can show them side by side comparisons of hardware vs plugin synths and outboard gear and they'll angrily insist that they sound the same or good enough, that the average joe can't pick it out in a mix so it doesn't matter. they have such an utterly subpar enjoyment of music yet they feel entitled to getting spoonfed of how to become a millionaire music producer. imagine if people had this delusional mindset about directing movies but i guess since music mainly has to do with sound people feel like their retarded subjective take of interpreting what they hear is as valid as any other, whereas visual media involves more objectivity since most people don't have issues with their vision while being in denial about it.
>>109398181?? Are you saying im a wannabe /mu/fag? I dont use /mu/ at all and just want to experiment with the melodies but have no experience with it is all. Or do you mean >>109378314 is the wannabe /mu/fag? Either way im trying to get ardour on linux and it seems like i have to build it? im gonna try it
>>109398238i mean in general people like >>109378314 or people being jerks in youtube comments and such. people who have years of """"experience"""" yet don't seem to have the first clue about how to actually make great music. even sn0ychan (the OP of this thread), iirc he said he had somewhat of a streaming audience in like 2017, then took a break and came back and started posting in /dmp/ two years ago, it's technically been about 10 years in total and he could have passively observed music with a more a redpilled music production background during his break. many other anons have admitted to having been doing this for much longer than 10 years and some have a huge ego about it.
especially jim lill's recent video about how preamps supposedly sound the same pissed a lot of people off and it also emboldened people who don't hear a difference between different gear like also synths etc. people want to act like they have the moral high ground like they're making real art while using plugins that are only a low quality imitations of gear, the plugin devs put most of the effort into designing a slick GUI and not innovating with the actual sound quality, they need to keep cpu usage down so that people will buy it. some plugins use literal AI slop like NAM and amateurs eat it up.
>>109396184can't have unloicensed wizards running around, that's how you get a cataclysm
>>109397473>do i need a good microphone no. a good microphone just means you need less eq work to make it sound good. on a good mic generally all you need to do is a low cut for rumble and maybe a high shelf for brilliance. maybe a cut in 400 to 500 depending on the vocal. the track i posted earlier >>109380986 i recorded on my phone microphone, which is a set of problems in itself but you can still do it. you have to deal with that really nasally mid range honk, then usually 2k and sometimes higher are too brilliant so it pops out of the mix too much (so you would cut instead of boost here). the super high end has no information and you are prone to sibilance issues.tldr; no, but a good microphone saves you time having to eq as much.
I just pirated Reaper.
