I did some surface-level research since OP is a reactionary retard and can't be assed to include any links. The individual in question apparently had GrapheneOS installed on his Pixel, and it's assumed that the password he provided to CBP agents to unlock his phone, was a duress password, which is a function of the OS. I can see what his idea was--giving them the password for them to unlock it so that there's "plausible deniability" when it fails to unlock and wipes itself--but that's still a bit of a stretch.

I assume the reason he was asked to provide credentials for his devices (Pixel phone and e-reader) was because of the fact that he's an activist. I don't know what kind, and I don't care much about the man himself, just the situation and how it could have (easily) been avoided, whether he was an activist or not.

There is, however, always the possibility that any one (or all) of the CPB agents that were processing him and the device were based enough retards that they somehow wiped the phone trying to input the pin (LOL), or that there was a bug in GrapheneOS that somehow wiped everything (LOL LMAO). And everything else is purely circumstantial evidence, including whatever contents he had on his e-reader, which may or may not have been encrypted/password-protected. Attention seems to be solely directed at the fact that he had a Pixel with GrapheneOS, and the fact that it offers a duress password functionality (in conjunction with the fact the phone fucking wiped itself).

As for why they were investigating him, either it was a random stop (he just looked suspicious; he looked ethnic), or they did so as a result of his activist activities. In the latter case, there are two possibilities; either he was flagged during processing due to something illegal he must've done during a protest/demonstration (likely assault or property damage), or CBP agents were given orders from higher up to fuck with him for his involvement. If it's the latter case, then by spilling his spaghetti, he just gave the powers that be an in to rape him with the full weight of the law.
