What is /g/'s opinion on computers that use ARM?
>>109363487ARM's weak memory model will cause sloppy multithreaded jeetcode that works on x86 to explode... or worse, keep running.
I've been using one since 2021
>>109363859Any problems with Windows Apps, Lloyd?
You'll be having some hard time with older games with older EAC such as Chivalry 2, was eyeing for ARM64 windows laptop and got excited with EAC enabled supports for emulated games until I realised the devs must update said games to take advantage of that new update, otherwise they will not run on ARM64 windows.
Wtf is that tiny ISO EnterWhile the caps lock takes so much spaceApple is beyond retarded
>>109363487I've been convinced. I got a MacBook Air M2 as a 'please god please just work unplugged from the wall for more than 2 hours and dont die if i leave it in my bag overnight and chance it going into the wrong sleep state and draining the entire battery' machine for work. It's been very reliable. I had it up to 630 days 'since last boot' before I had to restart it to fix an external mouse not working. Rock solid on MacOS but not sure about my snapdragon xisters on wangblows are doing.
>>109363487great for light workflows. battery never runs out.
>>109363859I got a great deal in 2023 and never looked back.
>>109363866I'm trans btw
>>109365512I got mine in 2022.
>>109365512
I will also show
>>109363487ARM has a lot of architectural quirks that "all the world's an IBM PC" brain rotted modern developers won't be thinking of while writing desktop software.
/g/ is official board of macbook
>>109364981This shit bothers me so fucking much, literally unfixed on every Linux distribution.
>>109365517BASED
>>109363487Sometimes I mention how cool it is that ARM is becoming a serious contender to end x86-64 dominance while hoping they don't ask me to elaborate on that (I don't know what any of this means)
>>109363487I'm awaiting NVIDIA's laptops because ironically they're the only ARM laptop that will support Linux properly (by properly, I mean via ACPI and not device tree crap so it just works with whatever ARM distro you're installing)
>>109363487>What is /g/'s opinion on computers that use ARM?The death of the personal computer. Here I said it.
cost more than x86 for less software support. no thank.
I think they are jeuish
>>109363487If I wanted a locked down proprietary device, I could just buy a macbook.
>>109363487if you're going arm you might as well get a macbook for two reasons1) nobody fucking cares about supporting windows on arm, not even microslop themselves2) nothing competes with <current apple m soc> for less money
>>109365691>NVIDIA's laptopsWhen?
M series macbooks living rent free on this board. But thb using m2 air for few years, along with windows PC and linux handheld I must say - it just works, even battery after few years still holding strong. Last windows laptop i had from alienware cracked itself open with swollen battery after 3 years of use.mac os> linux > h1b windows right now
>>109366538macs are overpriced and stupid to buy if your concern is cost, performance, even efficiency. they are just overpriced. it is that simple.
>>109363487use case?for apple it makes sense cause they can force everybody do dev for it. for anybody else it doesn't - both linux and winblows would rather keep backwards compatibility
>>109366630just say you're poor and stuck in 2013
>>109365517>buy BLACKED macbook>paint around usb-c ports stripped and is now white-ishsighit's not like it's visible once you use it, what with the ports being on the sides, but it still feels kinda dumb for a $2.5k laptop
>>109363487i prefer computers that use LEG
