I'm thinking of selling my Mac Mini m4There's not a lot it does over what linux can achieve. It doesn't have fractional scaling and requires a 5k monitor to look right. Every browser works terribly on it and if I want to use a Firefox fork, I have to manually set the framerate to something that will make the little fucker melt at over 95C. Many applications are paid. It's not even that good with LLMs despite people telling me that was the best purpose for it. I don't understand the point of this. Even my mouse is laggier on it no matter which one of the 13 third party tools that are supposed to fix it I use. I do regret it quite a bit.

I tried helping my older mother out who got a m4 mac mini before they got expensive. She didn't like pages and wanted something similar looking to Microsoft office. I decided to download libre office and found out the current up to date mac os flags all libre office files as malware as a 'security feature' and there is no way to disable/fix this currently. Can't find the direct post but I tried older methods and none of it worked. Could make and save a document, then you go to reopen it and it locks you out. Ended just getting my mom set up on Google docs.That's the mac experience. Sorry I do CAD so I use actual workstation grade hardware. Typically cuda and open gl required. I can't imagine anyone doing 3d animation or anything more than Photoshop and YouTube editing on a mac. It's arm.

My job gave me a neo yesterday and its pretty neat. I though just 8gb of shared mem would mean that it would run like total shit, but its zippy. Only thing I don't like is the low contrast keyboard on the indigo one, but I fixed that with a reflective paint pen to fill in the letters. Hoping the next one has a backlit keyboard or just better contrast. If it does, I might get one for myself.
